About Iditarod® The Official App

Welcome to the official App for the world famous Iditarod® Trail Sled Dog Race.

The Last Great Race on Earth®

You can’t compare it to any other competitive event in the world! A race covering 1000 miles of the roughest, most beautiful terrain Mother Nature has to offer. She throws jagged mountain ranges, frozen river, dense forest, desolate tundra and miles of windswept coast at the mushers and their dog teams. Add to that temperatures far below zero, winds that can cause a complete loss of visibility, the hazards of overflow, long hours of darkness and treacherous climbs and side hills, and you have the Iditarod. A race extraordinaire, a race only possible in Alaska.

From Anchorage, in south central Alaska, to Nome on the western Bering Sea coast. It has been called the “Last Great Race on Earth®” and it has won worldwide acclaim and interest. It’s not just a sled dog race, it’s a race in which unique men and woman compete. Mushers enter from all walks of life. Fishermen, lawyers, doctors, miners, artists, natives, Canadians, Swiss, French and others. Men and women each with their own story, each with their own reasons for going the distance.

Hundreds of volunteers, men and women, students and village residents all help to organize and stage the event. They man headquarters at Wasilla, Anchorage, and Nome. They fly volunteers, veterinarians, dog food and supplies. They act as checkers, coordinators, and family supporters of each musher.

About the Iditarod Trail Committee:

The Iditarod Trail Committee works to promote and preserve the historic Iditarod Trail, most notably through the annual staging of a sled dog race from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska. The Iditarod Trail, now a National Historic Trail, had its beginnings as a mail and supply route, and later became a life saving highway for epidemic-stricken Nome. The Iditarod covers over 1,150 miles of terrain, and the Sled Dog Race has been called the "Last Great Race on Earth," winning worldwide acclaim and interest. The race pits man and animal against nature, against wild Alaska at her best and as each mile is covered, a tribute to Alaska's past is issued. The Iditarod is a tie to - a commemoration of - that colorful past.

I will not renew my subscription till this and video issues are fixed. Get with it you have had plenty of years to have this app perfect

M70%

Really? The insider section is a link to the website, as if the rest wasn't already a browser app. If I can't follow the videos and GPS tracking I've already paid for I have no use for this. I already have chrome on my phone.

You gotta love an app that although is made for the people and has no way of making money still chooses to not have ridiculous permissions so they can steal and sell your data to make money! Thanks!

I'm going to to Nome for the first time to hopefully see some mushers come in! I can keep a eye on the mushers on the trail!

I have an ' insider' subscription. On the web, the videos won't load on Android. I downloaded the app hoping to 'read' the exclusive insider-only story about Sass's disqualification. When I click on the 'insider' menu item it just takes me to the web. And as stated by another reviewer, it's portrait mode only. Welcome to 2009, folks.

Way better than online. Much more organized. Yay!

Won't load Start stream on Android. Frustrating viewing Start stream on iPad with stationary banner on left third of screen. Can't maximize video window. App won't rotate when turn iPad to landscape position. Left third of screen has stationary background banner so text is obstructed. Seems to be extremely poorly tested and rushed to release only 2 days before Race start.

On the standings, it took a couple of days to update correctly. It was better to just book mark the web page and see the standings from there.
