Samba Server Pro for Android
Excellent performance and easy to setup / use
i liked it so much that i paid for it twice. :)
When I go home, my phone automatically connects and starts the service. Shortly there after my Debian box finds it and programmatically uploads and downloads the contents of the phones memory cards. I have done a cursory look into why it doesn't work with windows machines, but because I don't run windows on my desktops, that's as much effort as I put into it.
Because I only want to access it using the Linux smbclient command (from within the same tablet no less), the port number issue doesn't bother me. However, only 4 stars, because there's an issue with not saving changes to a defined server, due to a supposed port # conflict. Even though an app written in Dalvik has closed, Android continues to reserve the port numbers in a passive way. Then, this server-app detects that the port is already in use, whenever we try to save changes to one server (=collision). But the port number is asleep and assigned to the app itself... On ICS, to force-close the app solves that problem.
Software doesn't work for Mac as it should.. Error code - 50 Support is poor. Now waiting for my refund abt over a week..
