About Off In Pocket
Off In Pocket uses your phone's proximity sensor to turn it's display off when inside a bag or pocket. It ensures that the phone sleeps while the screen is covered, in order to prevent unwanted phone actions and unnecessary battery drainage. This is especially useful when disabling your phone's normal lock screen / password, and it is a great complement when using a flip cover. Unlike most comparable alternatives Off In Pocket is not active while the phone is asleep, ensuring no measurable impact on battery consumption.
(Tip: The HziT application: LOCK TIMER temporarily disables your phone’s lock screen / security guard, and is designed to work in tandem with this application.)
LITE OR FULL VERSION?
- The Lite version provides full functionality and should present an essential upgrade to any android phone. It is also recommended that you try the Lite version before installing the Full version to ensure full compatibility with your device.
- The Full version enables many user options enabling a much more customizable experience, adaptable to your specific phone, usage situation and personal preferences. (The differences are further explained below.)
IMPORTANT! Uninstall the Lite version before installing the Full version. They will not work well together.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
- If the phone is turned on while the proximity sensor is covered with no ongoing phone calls (i.e. accidental wake up inside bag, pocket, or behind a flip cover) Off In Pocket will instantly turn the screen off regardless off portrait or landscape mode. The Full version provides more detailed settings affecting responsiveness and reliability, and also the possibility to disable this function.
- When the phone is active, with no ongoing phone calls, Off In Pocket will check the proximity sensor for a few seconds before turning the display off (e.g. when a flip cover is closed). The Lite version has this delay set to 3 seconds, and the Full version provides adjustable delay settings. The Full version also gives the option to disable this function.
- When the phone is active and in landscape mode Off In Pocket Lite will ignore the proximity sensor in order to avoid accidental triggering. (The proximity sensor is normally placed somewhere near the phone's frontal camera.) The Full version provides the option to enable or disable this orientation check.
- In order to grant an application full persistency Android demands an icon in the notification bar while the app is active. Therefore the Lite version of Off In Pocket uses a persistent icon when active. But in most scenarios, on most devices there are not many noticeable reliability issues when disabling this icon. Therefore the Full version provides the option to disable this icon for those who think it clutters their screens.
- Off In Pocket is designed and tested in order to have no measurable impact on the battery consumption of your device.
ESSENTIAL INSTALLATION INFORMATION
- Uninstall the Lite version before using the Full version! They will not work well together!
-Off In Pocket needs ADMINISTRATOR PRIVILEGES to be able to turn the display off.(A link to to the Device Administrators page in phone settings will be shown at first run.) When uninstalling Off In Pocket you have to disable the same administrator privileges.
-After installation some devices also have to be rebooted for full app functionality and reliability
