FBReader TTS+ Plugin for Android
Great idea. But the option doesn't appear most of the time. Interface has an annoying message or ad on top. And it doesn't appear in the installed plugins list of fbreader. I'll uninstall and install again. First impression hasn't been good. I reinstalled twice. Still doesn't appear in Fbreader. I noticed it's also no longer developed or supported. Looking for another reader now that uses tts.
I have problem with this App on Huawei Mate 9, stop to read every few minutes and crash FB Reader App time to time. Didn't have any problems with this Apps on any Android devices before.
I really love this app! It turns my ebooks to audiobooks. Sometimes when the addict in me can't stop myself from reading (coz my eyes are hurting already) or I have to do something but want to still read, it helps me by reading the book for me.. Thanks so much for making this app! God bless!
Simply does not work anymore. Latest combination of fbreader and tts+ plugin stopped working. I've been using both on several phones for years. Now it doesn't work. Panel shows up, with disabled rate/pitch sliders and unresponsive play button and then closes without a trace a few seconds later. Oh, yes, stop button works. Re-installed, rebooted, no change.
The app used to work, and the app opens, but if I try to open the app in FB it closes the app and fb just opens with the book. I have tried troubleshooting this issue and I am Frustrated that the app doesn't work seemlessly. Until an update occurs that fixes this I am staying away from this app.
EDIT: This plugin is abandoned. App developer will no longer update this app, he wants you to use his @Voice Aloud Reader app. Disappointed. Best thing out there to read books to you. This along with IVONA voice Amy makes for a great listening session.
Non-functional on chromebook (android app). Will read but app won't give focus back to FBReader to see pages. Is not able to read text in PDF files.
Fantastic when it works. Unfortunately it can be slow/flaky to start, and doesn't reliably continue to run in the background, particularly if you are switching between apps. Devs, it's so good, but so frustrating. Please give this some attention :-) Samsung galaxy s6, lollipop.
Does not work at all, with default Pico or any other TTS engine (I've tried all they're recommended free ones). The pop-up appears but it won't read anything no matter how long you wait or tap "play". Half the stuff you do, it vanishes before you can try to tap it. Doesn't matter how many times you restart it or FBreader, and whether you highlight text, or anything. Why do they have every single feature be an unusable plugin?
When I try to look up a word the TTS disappears and I have to start TTS again????. Please fix!! Overall good plugin.
An update for bugs would be nice. Api errors on all 3 devices. Start reading when headset is plugged in only works half way on one device. The app opens but always have to close the tts and reopen it to start it... All devices take multiple attempts to start the tts and sometime it sticks in a loop to choose the voice to use. Lockscreen controls do not appear on lockscreen. Randomly stops reading. One device only makes it about 5 minutes before it just stops (no sync processes running which does affect things like that) . No app killers installed.
I use this on my oppo A37 and it randomly stops reading. It gets really annoying to keep on opening my phone just to make it start again especially when I'm on the go. I hope you can fix it. I'll change the rating if I see an improvement.
This was not working at all for some time for my environment. It now almost copes. Problem: the place in fbreader proper is not updated to reside where the tts stops, such that it can resume from the correct point. Each time fbreader starts up, it returns to the point at which tts last BEGAN, not where tts last ended. I'm having to manually seek forward to where ivona was last stopped.
Had some wired optimization, that cause issue with tts other than google. The sample was fine but the real one pause each character in chinese.
It doesn't work on mine. I tried resetting the app and stuff but still doesn't work and it disappear every few seconds. Really disappointed.
With the latest "improvement" the app doesn't even open. Shows a crash report pop-up every time
Can't find 'Read by sentences' option as mentioned in the app description. After stopping the app and starting plugin again, it reads from last paragraph which wastes a lot of time. Can you help? Thanks
Recently, every time I press "play", shows me the settings window. Looks like it doesn't save my settings anymore. Seems like removing "unnecessary permissions" was not a good idea :( I'm on "oneplus 2" phone with latest updates.
It doesnt read the page i wanted too and keeps returninh back to the last 30 page.
This app will NOT work with my Galaxy s8+. If this isn't fixed I'll have to look into other options.
Very good tts, only the brakets are not read properly, but has an edit speach function! Edit: direct reading when pressing icon doesnt work anymore
It doesn't work anymore. Now it only reads. Doc Fix it asap pls I wanna listen pdf files
Nouat update or app update made it completely non-functional. Was my go to for audio books. Looking elsewhere now.
English doesn't work anymore. Only Spanish. I do not speak Spanish and it is so frustrating. No matter what I do it's still the Spanish lady.
The tts enhancement abilities of this devs' apps are incredible. FBReader is pretty great & this is a must have add-on. Unfortunately it does stop reading quite often. It doesn't handle coming out of background well, usually closing. The sleep timer is a nightmare to deal with & should have been worked on ages & ages ago. It is still great though, especially if you just set the timer, start the playing, lock the device & don't use it at all otherwise until your set time is up (& hope it keeps playing).
Only suggestions/requests I have would be too have a search function for the speech edits. My list of speech edits is rather long and I try to have them in alphabetical order to locate them easier. Even so, sometimes I still can't find one and I'm not even convinced it's there, but if I try to put in another to override the list one, it doesn't work. My other suggestion would be to add the ability to assign priority to individual edits.
With latest patch the plugin refuses to even open and I just get the crash report popup. I'm using a nexus 7 2013 edition fully patched and I've tried to reinstall just the plugin and then both it and the reader with no success. As of 28/05/16 with latest update it still won't work on my nexus, I'll click speak and then if I wait a while it will have the pop-up but refuses to play.

Doesn't matter what engine you use or what voice, settings don't help either. All you get is chipmunk with different accents. Also being unable to delete or sort voice options is ridiculous.
A really older version was nice. The recent versions keep stopping in the middle of reading taking away the fun of reading with this app. It has to be cleared completely from the device memory before it can be restarted. Unless this issue is rectified am going to look for another app.
Great little plugin. If you have issues with it stopping unexpectedly: in my case it's usually because there's too many apps running in the background. Killing them fixes it. Cheers.
'Speak' option missing from menu. How are we supposed to use this plugin if it's not actually plugged in? This has been in the past excellent, and truly beloved when working as it should. Have the developers abandoned it? Has there been conflict with FBREADER? Or is Hyperionics' other Tts app with its extortionately priced ad-free version just more interesting ($) at the moment? This problem has existed for months. Last update in March. Their other app got an update a few days ago. PLEASE FIX THIS
I really love this but it has a annoying issue. Sometimes it plays at max volume, regardless of the volume level and doesnt lower even if changing volume, until it's paused then play.
Only have a few problems. 1. It turns itself off a lot of time. It does it randomly sometimes when I just turned it on and sometimes after its been on awhile. 2. It would be nice to have more choose on voices.
inconsistent. works great for a couple of months then refuses to read... it dieing now - second time this year.
It works fine. But the feature of pausing the TSS voice on the lock screen doesn't work with the android 6.0.1... It was a very useful feature, I really miss it...
Sleep timer control setting have not been improved for a couple of years despite comments. No 5 stars until it's more accessible.
I love this reader, BUT it's overpriced!! I have large family there number one complaint is pricing In Playstore and won't buy good apps.I've recommend this app for years to my 48 nieces and nephews 9 bros & sis, 130+ cousins and to work colleagues etc i could go on and on. it crashed randomly plz add function to ignore system events.
Thanks got this great plugin. I love the way you can tweak the speed of reading and the pitch and volumeof the voice. Lovely

Doesn't work. Won't play and disappears after a few seconds. Very buggy. So dissapointed. I have been working very hard to find something that can read my ebooks out loud but nothing comes easy I guess.
