Why family feuds are so much worse than other disagreements

It's said, with a great deal of truth, that the people you love have the most power to hurt you, and are the most likely to hurt you. After all, you don't really care what strangers think, say, or do, do you? You care what the people close to you think, say, and do.

So if your family has fallen out - over someone's actions or words, over money, over lifestyle choices, over partner choices, over whatever it may be - it can cause a great deal of pain, anger and bitterness all round.

Who is responsible for fixing a family feud?

Quarrels can sometimes be resolved, of course, and the parties reconciled, and the hope of a reconciliation can keep you tied in to the dispute, trying again and again to 'fix it'. But sometimes such splits can't be 'fixed', and anyway you can't make people make up.

And then it's time to put it behind you and move on.

And that's not so easy, is it? How do you stop thinking about it all the time? How do you stop the 'if only's' and the 'what if's' and the 'I wish I/they hadn'ts'? How do you stop brooding on so-and-so's stubbornness, or so-and-so's vindictiveness and reserve your energies for living your own life?
