About SPQR Latin

At long last, SPQR is now available for Android users! SPQR is the ultimate learning tool for Latin students who want to immerse themselves in the language, presenting the most comprehensive Latin dictionary around, dozens of Latin texts with English translations, plus flashcards, learning material and much more!

Here are the features available in this initial release - more features will be added over time!

- Full, fast and searchable copy of the Lewis & Short Latin lexicon - it searches as you type, showing either short definitions or full definitions along with citations.

- Parse any Latin word to English, regardless of conjugation - includes full breakdown of the word's form.

- Full copies of classic texts in their original Latin, grouped either by author or genre, including: the Gallic War and Civil War by Julius Caesar, Res Gestae by Augustus, the Twelve Caesars by Suetonius, the Amores by Ovid, the poems of Catullus, the Aeneid, Georgicon and Eclogues by Virgil, the Metamorphoses by Apuleius, five landmark speeches by Cicero (including In Verrem!), plus Horace, Juvenal, Vitruvius and more!

- Most of our Latin texts come with parallel English translations, which means you can be reading Caesar's original Latin description of his battles in Gaul, then tap a button and jump to an English translation exactly where you left off - flip between languages to check your translation as often as you want!

- "Church fathers" texts give you the Bible in English and Latin, plus Augustine's Confessions and Bede's Ecclesiastical History of the English People.

- Included in the app are full copies of Allen & Greenough's New Latin Grammar, plus Fabulae Faciles, Bennet's New Latin Grammar and The Comic Latin Grammar - we've even added Edward Gibbon's epic work The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire for good measure.

- Comes with thousands of words prepared as flashcard decks to help accelerate your learning, plus a built-in Roman numeral converter.

SPQR is the gold standard of Latin apps on all smartphones and tablets, and we hope you enjoy it. This is our first Android release, so we look forward to hearing your feedback – email us at help@romansgohome.com!

This is the first app ever on which I have spent money, and it is worth every cent; it is absolutely amazing. This app allows me to freely fangirl over Latin, whether it is by reading the Bible in both Latin and English, searching up the countless words I inevitably forget, or studying grammar for Certamen. love this app so much.

I'm a Latin scholar and my main reason for buying this app is the fully searchable offline Lewis and Short dictionary. I love browsing through it at random, reading entries and the quotations given thereunder. The addition of authors is extremely welcome. It's wonderful to whip out my phone and start reading some Latin text while waiting in line or something. As a Cicero fan, I would REALLY urge the addition of the full works of Cicero. My own portable (and searchable) Cicero would be a dream come true. App needs a few minor pieces of work. In the first place, I can't manage to access the dictionary through the texts. My vocabulary is excellent but sometimes I do run into unfamiliar words or words that appear of ambiguous meaning and I would want to look them up. For some funny reason, on my Samsung S4, this doesn't work. Also, I don't like the way that the texts in Cicero are organised. The chapters of a work are all in the root window under the title of the text itself. This means that scrolling down from the Catilines to a chapter in the Pro Roscio takes forever. I'd appreciate a solution to this (and did I mention that I'd love the complete of Cicero?).

Easily the best Latin library you can get on your phone. It has a lot more works and classics than any other app I've seen

This app offers a ton of scripts in the original Latin wording, from Cicero to the Bible, it's a great reference for Latin students. The only con I have is the lack of landscape mode, overall, I can't recommend this enough!

Love the app. Would love it even more if it had De Natura Deorum Ciceronis, De Rerum Natura Lucretii!!! Cicero's De Re Publica would likewise be awesome. Overall, thanks for an excellent app!

Great app. Better than any free version. It has full texts by many Roman authors in the Latin. The flashcards appear thorough. Restores my faith in the modern world.

This it's proving to be a godsend in my Ovid class. I especially like the function where the app will generate vocabulary flashcards based on the text you're reading. Love it!

Please please please ... allow the option to store as much as possible on the SD card. This app installs entirely into device storage, using more space than Facebook and Twitter combined. 272 MB !

I purchased this app mainly for the substantial corpus of texts and the excellent 'Define' feature; it is worth every penny, although I would like to see a bookmark feature.

<3 but it's too big to not have an SD card option.

Great app that flips between Latin and English and concurrent. All the classics in Latin and the complete bible by Jerome. Would like a pronunciation guide with all the meanings though.

Solid app with a good selection of features. The flashcard mode is a little bare bones, but does the job. Any chance of adding Lucretius' De Rerum Natura?

I would like to be able to re-order flash card decks so that I can revise better from the list. It's little things like that. Although helpful, it's not quite the best it could be.

I got this mostly for the flashcard facility, so that I could add the vocab I'm learning & test myself on it. But there's a wealth of other really useful stuff too. I can't get it to select a word in the texts for translation, but I think that might just be the tablet I'm using (Nexus 7). Really well put together.

App is pretty amazing, having all of this text is incredible but the defining ability does not work on the Samsung s3. Please fix, it would be perfect

H70%

After using both, it is clear that iPhone version is superior, and has more features etc. Once bugs such as the look up feature on the texts, and grammar testing is added, then this will be well worth the cost Also the ui could do with some fixing up
