About ANSI Terminal Mobile

ANSI Terminal Mobile is a fully ANSI.SYS compatible terminal app used to connect to any ASCII/ANSI telnet server. It has full and fairly accurate graphics and animation support for common telnet games or programs such as Tradewars 2002 or color-coded terminal servers.

It uses a simple interface to keep a list of common servers and a hard-coded keyboard to make typing easier. The display is landscape for easier reading and proper graphics layout. All ANSI functions and fonts are functional. App was designed for 800x480(1280x768) but has scaling for all resolutions.

Renders ANSI well, doesn't respond well to auto-detect from BBS, but if you manually set to colors and ANSI it seems to work. For tablet use with attached/bluetooth keyboard, is a must to be able to minimize/hide on-screen keyboard, also - while the app recognizes most keypresses on my attached keyboard, it does not recognize the Enter key. I hope to see this app continue to improve and add features..

Lack of ESC key on the onscreen keyboard is a pain with many BBS. Onscreen keyboard is also somewhat unresponsive. A haptic response would also be nice, since the keypads are hidden from sight by my fingers.

Thanks for making this! The app delivers its promise, supporting ANSI art. My only complaint is that the keyboard is a bit unresponsive.

Note 5. Tenet system does work, there was no color or ansii function when first logging in to BBS server, this was a client update issue. I simply found the ansii command ( =a ) and color and ansii worked. 4 stars because it does work as advertised. Not 5 stars because it cost me a buck when other apps do the same for free (in portrait screen with my own keyboard) and because it is stuck in landscape style with gay pink keyboard that barely works.

I'm giving this a try on my ODROID desktop running Android 4.4.4. I have an attached USB keyboard and mouse, but the app won't recognize the keyboard. I can't get the built-in KB to appear. Clicking on the buttons has no effect.

Very good and solid client. The author has done very well with it.

Keyboard stays active on the screen despite not being required (I have a bluetooth keyboard attached). The screen with isn't configurable - and it's not quite wide enough for standard BBSs when in landscape mode.

The ANSI looks mostly right. The custom keyboard is not good for BBS games (no numeric keypad, etc.) And can't be swapped out for other keyboards. Also can't use a Bluetooth keyboard. The app is perma-stuck in landscape mode... Would be handier, on a tablet, in portrait mode. Fix those issues and this would be a 4 or 5 star app.

Just started the app up on a Sony xperia m and the boot screen loads for the app, and changes form portrait but then stays black. With no menu's. Just the android system menu on the side.

Displays ANSI art correctly, but BBS does not detect ANSI colors. No SSH.

This is a fine app. Although, it would be nice, that if the buttons that are by themselves could be larger. I have large fingers. I can hardly touch them. Second maybe a dial list list. But this app fill the needs of the ANSI telnet terminal.

My BBS doesn't seem to think this app is a completely ANSI-compatible terminal. WWIV won't display the welcome graphic when I connect or disconnect. Also, there is a weird scrolling effect where every other character scrolls down at once, followed by the others, creating a checkerboard effect.

Update: this app works fine. My earlier problems were being caused by the server to which I was connecting. If you need a great telnet client to connect to a BBS, this is what you want. The ANSI colors and extended ASCII characters display perfectly. The built-in keyboard ensures no part of the standard 80x25 screen size is covered up. I have experienced some slight delays while the translation occurs before the screen properly displays, but even with some complex "graphics," it works fine.

Needs arrows and the ESC key, and all the other movement keys. Would like to see arrow keys and escape keys. My bbs has many features that require arrow key input, and that use escape to exit. Those features don't work without those keys. Also, I have a full screen message reader, and the ANSI frame to the reader gets printed, but the text of the message does not.

I have been searching for a long time for a true ANSI terminal to us as a client on my mobile device to log on to my BBS and now I have found it. It is the 1st program that I have found that displays the High Ansi characters properly. Kudos to the developer! The only draw back is that it dose not let the BBS software (Synchronet) know that it is an Ansi capable terminal so I have to force it in my user settings so when I fist log in I am only getting the Ascii screen but once logged in it changes to full Ansi! I would love to give this program a full 5 stars but I'll give it 4.5 if the BBS can ever Auto detect this program it's Give it a 5+

It's got a few issues as of September 2014 on my HD Slate 10 tablet, but is the most faithful reproduction I have seen so far. Minor graphical glitches and spacing errors but nothing too terrible.

I'm disappointed how this works on my screen but the developer assures me he has improvements coming. I look forward to revising my rating upward.
