Hooktheory I for Android
I really wish it was longer! I was always interested in music but never formally taught, this is a wonderful recap of years of trial/error and a solid base to build on. I will definitely write a few songs before reading the second book to make sure to forget nothing of this one. Great work!
Please add highlighting!
Fantastic resource for learning how to write catchy music!! So well done.
Best
This is about as good as it gets for an intro into harmony. Well done!
I was waiste alot of time to look for music theory on net but theres no book before can help me clearly understand like this. This is more than a book. For me it is treasure then lots of people should know. Gona nees part 2 now
Although it is rather short, the information is presented clearly and concisely, using examples and providing questions to test your understanding. Although I already knew a lot of music theory, I now fully understand harmonisation, which can be used in so many musical contexts. Thank you so much.
Good, but too short for the price.
Im glad to have bought it, this is exactly what I was looking for. If you have wondered around the internet watching multiple videos this will help you make the best of your learnings. Basically, this app shows common patterns in popular music and then help you understand why and how those patterns are used, which I havent seen from any other books. Good job developpers, stable app with consice explanations. A bit too short for the money tho. Lets hope next chapter isnt as expensive.
Complicated concepts made simple for those new to music theory. This book is a starting point with lessons on major scale. I'm sure the next book will incorporate the minor scale and how to use the circle of fifths.
A must have for any beginner. I don't care if you don't like music theory. LEARN IT. :) where's the next one?
It was just amazing how simple everything is laid out to be! Harmony is now becoming a piece of cake!!
This helps with the composition of music. I can now compose and play my own music.
Good, but too short for the price.
Great
Great idea, great app
Worth it.
Having spent time learnt the basics of music theory struggled with the normal descriptions of how interactions work. Hooktheory puts it into a clear and easy to understand format that will help me greatly with composition. Highly recommended for those wishing to learn how music works
This is what I've been waiting for for 10 years. I've bought countless books on systems, shortcuts and theory and Hooktheory is the only thing that made sense and put it together. The way they explain the music just clicked for me. FINALLY.
After years of trying to pick up the essence of music mechanics from books on music theory I finally feel I got it. And I'm definitely going to buy part II once it's out. If anyone's like me, looking for understanding of the underlying simplicity of how (at least popular) music works, then get this book and you can't go wrong. Thank you guys. This is a real eye-opener. T h a n k y o u :-)
Great book to introduce you to the basic concepts of music theory, but won't help much if you've taken a real class or two. I love the way they explain things, but it doesn't have the depth that I'd been hoping for.
So far I'm impressed with the book. I've reinforced my understanding on some basic music theory and can't wait to get dirty with the software. Too bad the software is available in app form or I'd have gotten to it already.
The app worked perfectly and the videos all played well. The information is so well written and it helped advance my songwriting skills to a new level. When is the second volume going to be done?!? Can't wait.
Invaluable insights that break down conventionally complex ideas into simple concepts. Practical examples help reinforce the teachings. Really hope a part 2 is still in the works.

This is short but filled with great information. The visual alone is worth the price.

One small problem is a video whcih is supposed to link to "so what" by pink, but links to "who knew" instead
This book is golden!

This is a great book for learning the fundamentals of chord theory. From what I have read so far it's fairly rudimentary, I'm hoping to find out some stuff further in the book to aid using substitutions and altered dominant chords and their appropriate melodic minor voicings. Who knows, I will let you know. Then maybe I will give it 5 stars.
Good fundamentals I learn A lot specting book 2
Simply amazing
Frigging awesome
Through using this app for an HOUR I learned more about songwriting than I did over years of taking guitar lessons. Very refined examples, and the interactivity is phenomenal. I highly recommend you use Elex's Chord Wheel app alongside this one so that you can play around with custom chord progressions and transposition.
A great starting guide . But a bit short. I would like to see the next volume a little bit longer.
This is where people should start learning and teaching music. Lots of layers of complexity are successfully avoided.
Need the second edition, this was tops
An innovative, quick, new way to learn music theory 101. Videos were very helpful. Texts were straight to the point and brief.

Very nice app with lots if useful information and examples. Note to the developers: In Section 4.1 a wrong video is linked to the example of the P!ink song.
