What are users saying about HipChat - Chat Built for Teams

O70%
by O####:

Why does it reset my notification settings after every update? Quite annoying as the app auto updates.

U70%
by U####:

Awful, just awful. The notification system sends multiple notifications for the same channel, even while you are you looking at the channel with your screen on. That's only of course when notifications are even working. Requires an always on connection to receive notifications which drains your battery and has no real push notification system. The whole HipChat ecosystem seems like a complete afterthought and could probably be implemented better by a team of novice coders in a few weeks.

U70%
by U####:

I want to be able to declare myself offline without the need to logout. I Need a merged messages view that is sorted by time, so that i can tell quickly if anyone has messaged me since the last time i was online.

G70%
by G####:

It's fine but really lacks 'Quit' option. Once started, it keeps notifying about chat events despite I'm already seeing them on the laptop version. And I cannot just close the client at the EOD, it's showing me online.

Y70%
by Y####:

Notification mechanism on Android app seems half-baked. Also why would getting push-style updates be causing my battery to drain quickly? At the very least I would like to know quickly how many messages have been posted in every room I am in since I last actively viewed that room on my smartphone...

U70%
by U####:

Notifications have gotten more consistent lately. This usually works reasonably well on my phone. The tablet experience us unusably awful. Lag is so bad that normal actions just abort. When I clear data and log back in, the situation improves for like half a day.

S70%
by S####:

This app is a buggy piece of junk. It won't stay connected, even with the stay connected option enabled. In the best case, it uses too much battery, and in the worst case it consumes 100% of the CPU, just killing my battery. Sometimes it won't let me type a message. Sometimes it delays syncing of messages. It shows the wrong emoticons. It doesn't sync message read counts. Presence doesn't work correctly with multiple devices. When you tap a message notification, it takes you to the wrong conversation. I've opened bugs for some of these problems, but they remain unfixed. Atlassian should be ashamed of themselves for turning out such a poor quality product.

U70%
by U####:

A little buggy. Fails to add new conversations to chats list, had to create convo with desktop app to have it appear in the list. Unable to modify hipchat notifications (when to email, when to Android notification, etc), had to use hipchat website to disable duplicate email notifications being sent for every single message. On the bright side, it does in fact let me chat with my teammates. Definitely needs more work.

C70%
by C####:

This app is so frustrating. Doesn't sync and struggles to send messages. On the bright side, push notifications still send relevant chat info, so I can at least see communication sent to me.

M70%
by M####:

This app worked amazing up until the latest update. Now I'm unable to connect and get the "Unable to reach server domain" anytime I try to log back in. If fixed, will update review.

H70%
by H####:

After using and loving the desktop and web versions of your software I find myself really disliking the mobile app. It takes forever for the chat history to load, it takes forever to switch between people or rooms, and the app randomly freezes and goes unresponsive in the middle of typing a message. To add to the annoyances when going to type a message it can take anywhere from a minute to three minutes for the keyboard to show up to type. I would expect a much more refined mobile app from a corporation of your size and caliber. It bothers me greatly that you would put so much effort into web-based and server-based app that you would completely forget to make the mobile apps stable. Until these above issues are fixed I find the hipchat mobile app not even worthy to be on the Google Play Store Network.

U70%
by U####:

Normally at least somewhat reliable, but today it has refused to let me log in. Especially when dealing with important and time sensitive materials for work, this is incredibly inconvenient. Tried clearing cache and reinstalling with no success.

E70%
by E####:

How am I supposed to use an app that can't even connect to a chat room with full signal strength and/or connected to a strong WiFi network? Please fix this issue asap.

V70%
by V####:

When I open the app via notification, the latest message is not displayed. The send button is often disabled without any reason specified. The only thing that helps in these cases is killing it and reopening. Read message statuses are not synchronized with Linux version.

U70%
by U####:

Seriously, Atlassian? Fix this ASAP. I pay for this service and now it is crippled.

K70%
by K####:

Looses rooms history, e.g. just shows the latest message but the history is just blank. Doesn't show number of unread messages in rooms after being offline. Switching networks causes random problems with reconnect and history.

U70%
by U####:

Does not remember corporate server when logging out. Can not quit - have to log out to make quiet. Default "standby after 3 minutes" is a bit pointless on a messaging app. On a positive note, doesn't use much power on Nexus 6 when the above setting is disabled (ie using as a team messaging app)

U70%
by U####:

Tried hard with our team to use it because we liked it at first, but then we were disappointed by the fact that when a mobile device is temporarily off internet connection push notifications never reach the device once it goes back online. As a result we cannot really work with it. Today the desktop app was updated with a very similar fix. Hope the mobile app will integrate it as well so that we can give it another shot. Thanks.

G70%
by G####:

Notifications inconsistently show up, don't clear when viewed on another device, no unread count for chats/rooms, voice/video calls work very rarely, being logged in on mobile app prevents calls from reaching desktop, no dark theme like the desktop apps have... The list goes on. Fix your backend service so it's more stable, then fix this bare minimum excuse for an enterprise mobile app.

D70%
by D####:

Notifications are not consistent or may have delay. This app needs more work before a team can rely on it.

U70%
by U####:

Some recent change has broken HipChat for me. It can no longer connect to our company's HipChat server on one of my devices. This needs to be fixed yesterday. Have tried reinstalling and clearing app data.

L70%
by L####:

This app was ok, until I went to send a reply. The send never works. That definitely needs to be resolved. I use this tool for work, and being able to reply is critical.

G70%
by G####:

Absolutely not reliable. It can't stay connected even for few minutes. On other side it's not possible to close the app without killing it. The last messages are often not shown. Send button gets disabled without a reason. Not an app you want to use...

R70%
by R####:

So user unfriendly in so many ways. No auto start, poor multiple chat capability. Google hangouts works better

U70%
by U####:

Locked me out and now I can't login. This is extremely unreliable as of now.we use this a lot

T70%
by T####:

It is an OK daily driver, but the notification system is not designed for multiple devices (laptop, tablet and phone), I have to dismiss the same notification 3x. Also does not respect the Android Don't disturb mode.

U70%
by U####:

When there are multiple consecutive messages with the 'show more' option, the option works alternatively. Meaning 'show more' option works for the first message but for the second message it does the opposite and hides (collapse) the message. Same for third and fourth.

B70%
by B####:

Junk. Continuously loses connection to the server. Constantly having to log out and log back in. Extremely frustrating. Expected more from Atlassian.

U70%
by U####:

Worse Slack clone. I use this app and crying. Developer, do something with notification system, please! Just look into Slack and do the same! Everything have tried and nothing works

L70%
by L####:

Forgets how to connect to the server constantly, so I have to retype my credentials when it "can't connect to the server" every 5 minutes. Pretty much unusable.

C70%
by C####:

Whenever I disable notifications from the settings menu, they seem to come back on automatically! Please fix this and I'll add a star.

U70%
by U####:

I cannot login from mobile. On PC it is working fine. Noone should use this chat...

P70%
by P####:

Scrolling is unusable in rooms with Nexus9 7.1 - literally cannot scroll back without the screen freezing and snapping back to the bottom. Sometimes you will get rendering glitches where text is on top of scrolled history many times over. It's an unusable mess guys.

O70%
by O####:

Very useful. Unfortunately I cannot login from the mobile app although I 100% sure I used the correct password. Otherwise a great app.

U70%
by U####:

Lacking push notifications, if you don't have the app open and don't have 'Stay Connected' enabled (which drains battery) then you never get chat messages in the background. Really missing Slack.

U70%
by U####:

Regularly refuses to connect when I can get to the hipchat server in a browser. Super frustrating. Really rubbish when compared to Slack

U70%
by U####:

If the server uses TLS v1.2, the app should also enable the same or give option to enable, instead of just giving "unable to reach server" error.

L70%
by L####:

The push notifications need work as well as the battery usage when stay connected is enabled (and it still disconnects with it enabled)

Q70%
by Q####:

Ridiculous app. Sluggish, cumbersome to find a person/room and archaic interface. Web app is a lil bearable but mobile app is bad

U70%
by U####:

Why after application update I should enter server name, login and password each time?
