NIH Stroke Scale App

This application is a reference tool designed to be used by healthcare providers who are learning how to use the NIH Stroke Scale or to be used as a quick reference for use with actual patients at the Point-of-Care.

The National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) is a standardized, reproducible, clinical assessment tool that provides a quantitative measure of a stroke-related neurological deficit. The scale is frequently used to evaluate the severity of a stroke, to help determine the appropriate treatment, to monitor patients for neurological worsening or improvement, and as a predictor of outcome.

This version of the NIH Stroke Scale Assessment app is to be used primarily as an educational resource or as a reference resource at the point of care. This version does not record any Protected Health Information or patient identification.

This application was developed by LaRoy Penix, M.D., a Stroke Neurologist working with Health I.E., Inc. In addition to other products, the company develops web apps that incorporate Clinical Assessment Tools designed to be used as educational resources but that can also be used in clinical settings at the point of care. The NIH Stroke Scale app was derived solely from the form posted at http://www.ninds.nih.gov/doctors/NIH_Stroke_Scale.pdf.
