About Screen Filter

Applies a shade that acts as a dimmer to ensure your eyes don't hurt. Far more powerful than Android's built-in brightness setting. Great for low-light gaming, web browsing, and eBook reading. It even saves battery life for AMOLED displays!

More features:
- Widgets: Easy access to preset brightness levels.
- Tasker/Locale Plug-in! Set brightness based on time/place/etc. To disable, configure for 100% brightness.
- Brightness slider uses logarithmic scale for fine-grained control.
- Drag the app icon to your desktop to use for toggling on/off.
- Prompts to confirm very low brightness settings.
- Option to disable soft-key backlight (does not work on all phones).

NOTE:
*** If you accidentally make your screen go BLACK ***
1. Pull your battery or (Nexus7) hold power button for 10 seconds
2. Uninstall the app to reset your bad brightness setting
3. Reinstall the app and use it normally again

You cannot interact with the Amazon Appstore's app installation or Superuser's permission-granting popups (so far that I've found, maybe more) when the filter is on. Otherwise it darkens the screen perfectly. Note that this will brighten the screen if you have Invert Colors enabled.

D70%

If you accidentally make the screen go completely black, you have no other option but to take out your battery then uninstall the app. Reinstalling the app resets the brightness level. The developer should build in a blackout reversal option. The soft-key backlight disable button doesn't work on galaxy s7

Tried various apps, this is the simplest & most effective. Simply turn on/off by touching app's icon, or notifier screen, yay!. (My schedule varies so on-off by time setting in others is just hassle). Quick to adjust & dims well. Works without having to look at an orange screen. Onle one that dims glaring kindle sufficiently. Doesn't interrupt any app or tasks. Color choice (orangy) would be nice, but this works very well. Text stays dark, easy to read even dim.

Did what it says, and does it well. I use it on all my devices, as its perfect for getting the right amount of screen brightness for nighttime use, when even the lowest built in settings are too bright. Thank you for saving a bit of my eyesight during late night device use during attacks of insomnia. Makes the screen viewable, yet allows my wife to sleep. For this, I thank you. :)

I didn't think it would actually work when it came to making my screen darker, BUT IT DOES! My phone screen setting still have it pretty bright at night, even on the lowest one. This let's you choose how dark, it even goes so dark where you can barely see. What I like the most is that it confirms with you if you want it that dark or if it was a mistake and also let's you choose the dark percentage. Its Great!

This is EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED from this app! :D Although, it leaves the very bottom strip of my phone (a verizon pantech) un-dimmed. While it DOES bug me the TINIEST little bit, I'm not complaining, simply making note of it. ^_^ also makes all screenshots taken while it's on darker, so turn it off for that.

I'm not sure if it's possible to fix but when my navigation button bar is invisible in the home screen, it has the normal brightness. IT HAS BEEN FIXED IN THE LATEST UPDATE! BEST APP EVER. The UI looks great! Good job!

Terrific app. I like the UX style, which is creative and unique. I would suggest adding an alternative way to to select the filter percentage, like a raw number input (I often like going between, say, 30 and 60 percent depending on scenario, and it's annoying to get back to the previous one. Also, people like round numbers). Also, I just donated $5 to Wikimedia with the author in mind (could not find a place to specifically make it on their behalf). Thanks!

I just installed it and it works great. When it downloads I put it on one of my pages and then click it to activate it and you can pull down the top bar to adjust it. If you put it too dark it will display a message saying it may be too dark to see and if you dont press "keep settings" within 10 seconds that it will revert back to normal. Nice to make the screen darker now. Will update if I come across anything while using it.

So.. I've been using this app since like forever. Just now after turning the filter on, i thought i should write a review cuz this is everything an app should be like. Serves the purpose and no hassle, simplicity is the key here. Every single night i turn it on and then in the morning i turn it off. It's become more of a ritual for me :D. But seriously, it's one of my favourites. Use it when i have to save battery and ofcourse, saving my eyes from too many photons at night. :) can't imagine life without it.

This app is fantastic for when I'm scrolling in bed late at night (like I am right now) and I don't want to wake up my husband. The biggest bummer? Because the app darkens your screen's image and does not actually adjust the brightness, any screenshots are super dark!

It's the only app that goes into every phone I use. It's easily adaptable and user friendly. It don't even consume the slightest amount of battery even if you turn it on all night which is unusual in these genre of apps. Moreover it can dim the screen to extreme bands that makes eyes less prone during low light conditions.

T70%
by T####:

For night users who find even the lowest point of brightness of the stock high. This is a must have app. It hardly takes up any space at all. And adding widgets to the screen with different values will also help. And adjusting the brightness is pretty easy job. And disabling can be done with eyes closed. Total recommend for all users.

⭐2017 update: shuts down on its own after short time;plenty of memory. Has been working fine on this Blu phone for 9 months. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐2014: Big difference in phone temperature ==== does not get as hot ???? & easy on eyes ⊙_⊙ tytyty! (=legally blind user that has to hold the bright light close to see). Have A Safe Day ! PEACE

the screen gets brighter everytime i go to the internet plus those keys on the bottom of my android (menu, home, back, search) stay very bright and so this is an inconvinience because i cannot just put tape over the keys like i did on my cameras for security purposes( you know... nsa and all) please fix these issues

It is nice to have the simple ability to change the percentage of the default auto brightness. I hope in the future this application will have its own menu that is accessible via settings instead of being through the notification drop down, which should still be an option for those who like it this way. Maybe also afterwhen the setting menu is there, how about an option to completely hide the icon. Cause frankly I don't use the turn offon quick button since it works so well. An imo androids have to many.

Really does save eye-strain. The auto timeout warning when u set too low (dark) is a lifesaver. Is Handy when using phone at the cinema's so the brightness doesn't annoy others & keep yr privacy from people nearby from peeking too. Thanks Haxor Industry.

All this app does is apply a black filter that darkens the display. This is perfect for AMOLED displays where the display drains more battery the brighter the display is. The app itself is lightweight, and allows precise percentage controls to control how dark the display will be, which is a big plus for me. The app does catch if you put the darkness level too low and will revert back in time, which is great since putting in too dark values can happen. It's simple, lightweight, and offers fine tuned controls. This is a must for devices that have displays that drain battery based on brightness.

This is the BEST app ever! I have the Samsung Note3 and use it at night time alot, to fully control the brightness is a miracle. Warning DO NOT PLAY with anything below 15-10 % as you may darkened the screen too much and won't be able to see. Not a big deal as I read this from a previous review, so I made sure not to go below this percent.

C70%

Easy to use, great at night or in class. 4/5 for reason below- Beware: screen shots taken while screen filter is on will be taken of the object with the filter on them, so they do not look the same as they would if you took a normal screen shot with the brightness turned down. I first used this app with an S3 but now I use on my Stylo as well.

Developer: I wish you added the option to have an automated curve like F.lux on the PC. So that the screen goes gradually darker by itself later at night... AND/OR... have widgets that set at specific %. I.e. we drag the widget to the home screen and then we configure that specific widget what % it should change to.

This really helps if your eyes are a bit light-sensitive and you use your phone in the dark (like in bed). I haven't come across a downside to this app. If you take a screenshot it'll have the dimmer over the picture, but that's just a little thing to keep in mind for the rare occasion.

Ive been using this app for a few years now. And I absolutely love it. It's nice for phones like the lg flex where the screen brightness doesn't go vary dark. But this dims the screen so even in pitch darkness u can almost not even see the screen. So in a movie theater u can text and not bother any one.

This is a must app for those brightness that is still too bright even at 0%. Though it is very dangerous to have 0% brightness with 0% filter, there's the possibility of total blackout on your phone especially when you are too sleepy configuring this stuff. I would like to suggest, maybe just make the lowest level around 30-40%. Also the range slider's UI is not correct on the percentage/value. Overall superb!

Prior to updating the app. It worked flawlessly and one of my favorite apps because how useful it is and how often I use it but now after playing a game on my phone such as solitaire. It malfunctions and only darkens the upper 2/3s of my phone screen. Fixes on reset. I think it may be caused by the ads that come across the screen and then returning to the home screen.

Finally I can look at my screen past midnight not burning my eyes! Warning- do not put it at 0% or close to that or you will have to guess where you're clicking or restart your phone because it really will black out your screen. thank you for this great tool! Screw Apple, we can dim, too!!:)

I mainly use this app to darken my screen while watching asmr videos on YouTube. Once I got the setting how I liked it, all I have to do is tap the icon on my phone & it darkens my screen just how I want. And they don't ask for any permissions or $$! What a relief! Great app! Nicely done!

Works great on my Nexus 6. Only issue and reason for the four stars is that the on-screen buttons are still at the "stock" brightness while the rest of the screen is filtered when the app is enabled. Please fix! Also, set a limit so that its not possible to make the screen go completely dark. That's a PITB on my N6.

I use it almost everyday to read at night together with moonreader! Yet i wish it could control or increase contrasts because, if lights are dimmed too much, the background mixes with what should be lighted. Additionally, now I am having trouble with my screen that does not light uniformly and the lower parts of the screen are already too dark while the upper parts still burn my eyes... perhaps you could improve this beautifully simple app introducing gradients in the filter

Love this app better than the other one I had. It really does get rid of that little bit of brightness that my phone always had even when I turn the level all the way down both my phone and when I'm online. now the bright light doesn't hurt my eyes while I'm reading in the dark even though I should be doing that in the first place... But hey I can't help it when I'm reading something good.

On a plain LCD display its not half as much fun. I do have one issue though, on my Nexus 6p with Android 6 the soft buttons are never dimmed so one star less then the maximum.

You will not find another app that will do the job better. Minimal space and battery usage. If you set the brightness lower than 15%, it will ask you to confirm that you want it that low. After 10 seconds if theres no response, the app will reset back to the previous brightness percentage. I love that.

T70%

While it does allow me to dim the screen to my liking to read comfortably at night, I found that it didn't really help my battery; after removing this app and trying the owl, my battery life went up quite bit. I misunderstood. I thought by dimming the screen, it would conserve battery, but doesn't appear to do so. I also tried a little test, where I fully charged the phone and turned on this app and did not use it. Found the battery depletes so much faster with this enabled

C70%
by C####:

The best and most simple app for reducing brightness below it's minimum. There are some issues, though. The "toast" notifications stay longer than they're supposed to. Also, I've noticed a strange pattern on my screen when the dimness is set somewhere below 40%. Other than that, great job.

Installed on my rooted 4.2.2, provides app as a toggle able icon (enable/disable) which I can only see using in bright light. My auto bright sensor adjustments still works. It is satisfying to find such a quick & clean solution. But it may or may NOT save power ?
