The body mass index (BMI), or Quetelet index, is an approximation for human body fat based on an individual's weight and height. It's not an accurate mesure of you body fat, it cannot be directly applied to children nor profesional athletes but it's a good estimation for most people.
An ideal BMI should be around 22. In general, it is considered to be a healthy range to be within 18 (the slimest) and 25 (the fattest).
