About BlowTorch MUD Client

BlowTorch is a basic telnet client that supports the following features that people find helpful for playing MUDs.

MCCP Compression
ANSI Color Codes
Aliases
Triggers
Timers
As many custom buttons you can make!

BlowTorch now supports Portrait mode as well as Landscape mode!
MUD/MUSH/MOO Servers are text based games that operate similar to terminal applications. A host name and port are used to connect a player to a game. Game servers can be found at http://www.topmudsites.com and http://www.mudconnect.com

Custom buttons are made through long pressing the window where you want the button to be. Buttons can be grouped onto pages by using button sets accessible through the MENU button.

Triggers can be extended by turning off "Literal" parsing. This will enable regular expression parsing for the entered pattern. Capture group text may be replaced in response actions by using $1,$2,$3, etc, where the number specified is the index of the captured group.

Problems, Questions and Bug reports should be emailed to the developer email address for the quickest response.

Happy mudding!

I thought it was really cool. Customizable. But it kept losing set ups. First the connections would disappear occasionally, and now my button set up just puffed out of existence overnight and reset back to default. The app is amazing otherwise but at that cost it's probably not worth the headache. Time to try something else.

by S####:

I really like this app. I only give it 4 stars however because when I save a MUD on it, it tends to lose the connection data after a day or so. I wish it would stay saved so I don't have to keep entering the connection info of a mud in over and over again. It gets annoying.

A MUST HAVE for us android phone guys haha.. :) great app! However, there's still one problem on note4: longpress doesnt open a new button. :( I hope it'll work soon!

G70%
by G####:

It is going nice so far, I fixed an issue that my list was erasing and force closing when I load and export lists. It was the app permissions, somehow my device did not turn them on when I downloaded the app so I did it manually.(for those that might have the same problem)

Buttons are fantastic, options are great, and the new menu is a definite upgrade. Only complaint with the upgrade is this: on my Samsung S3, when I close Blowtorch with the keyboard open, the keyboard doesn't close with Blowtorch. A minor annoyance, but a change.

Blowtorch has been my goto MUD client for mobile for years. I have been trying to keep up with development recently, are there any plans to update for Android N? At the moment, buttons don't work in android N.

T70%
by T####:

I mostly like it. Sometimes when I disconnect and reconnect it will keep disconnecting me after a while. It also has a bad habit of deleting all my connections.

Works much better after recent update. Still a couple minor annoyances. Exiting blowtorch using home screen key will often leave the keyboard up. Also, blowtorch sometimes crashes importing settings. Only noticeable ones thusly. Otherwise, awesome update. Thx to the developer. Moved my rating up to 4 stars.

Was not expecting an update anymore, nice incremental update on the menu and other parts without changing the old look and feel. BUT, since then, when opening the app, sometimes, at random, it has no list of muds and it's like it's just been installed. Sometimes from one use to the next, poof, all my worlds gone. This puts a severe crimp in its usability. Idol3 running marshmallow.

The new version is more stable but there are no help files and the support site has been down. No idea how the dot commands work, or how to setup more complex triggers and aliases without working help files.

I've had many issues with crashing for a while now, tolerating it, but now I'm extremely annoyed. The latest update put a menu button on the screen that i cannot remove. The button is ENTIRELY pointless, as you can just hold down the option button. PLEASE fix this. At least offer the option to turn this annoying button off! It's covering my commands!

P70%
by P####:

It is the best mud client for android hands down but ever since the latest update it's had some bugs and issues. First there is this annoying settings button in the top right hand corner you can't get rid of now. You can't easily create buttons like before although I like the addition of the grid. Lastly it seems to randomly crash now and it locks up on me sometimes if I select some of the top buttons also it will sometimes delete my profile so I have to set everything back up again.

W70%
by W####:

It's the best on android, and would have gotten 5 stars, but it keeps crashing and so far the swipe keyboard and the original keyboard works on it, which sucks because you can't put the numbers at the top. And you can't resize the buttons or make them more transparent since I am on a phone it covers the text. And I do wish it had some kind of mapper, I doubt I could actually use it on my phone, or even understand how to work it. But please keep working on fixing the crashing.

Been using the beta version of V2 for many months so I'm glad it's finally hit the Play Store - hands down the best client for Android and also supports multiple connections! :)

T70%
by T####:

The app often lags, sending my input but never receiving and displaying any replies by the system or other players leaving me staring at the screen waiting for upwards of 15 minutes

N70%
by N####:

Can you stop the crashing please. But still 5 stars.

T70%
by T####:

The previous version's keyboard was so much better. The most recent update made the keyboard so big, it's hard to see the action. Please change it back.

W70%
by W####:

It runs great when it works, but when it doesn't work it crashes and often with a grey screen. Uninstall and reinstall works briefly.

E70%
by E####:

The app seemed to work fine at first until I started creating buttons and utilizing the scripting features. Then I started losing scripts I previously made and even entire profiles would vanish! All that hard work lost. Willing to give 5 stars if the bugs get worked out. But as is, I can't really use it.

Thanks to the latest update, this is by far and large the best MUD client on the go. If you're a MUDder, download this.

T70%
by T####:

This thing capitalizes everything. That includes my login name, password, and every command on the mud. Which, if you've played a few, most are old and type 'Finger soandso', and you'll get a 'What?'

L70%
by L####:

I love this app, but the icing on the cake would be allowing a slash (/) command to be passed to a game as the first character of a string, akin to the double period processing toggle that is already there. Perhaps a (//) could be passed as "/"?

App constantly crashes if direction buttons are pressed rapidly. But all in all, great app!

Used to absoutely adore this app and would have easily given it 5/5. But since upgrading to a modern phone (Was note 7 now S7) I've had nothing but problems with it. It still works... sort of. Previously it didn't work at all on my Note 7 (Crash on startup) but now it runs, though has many issues. There is a consistent reproducable crash on my device where if I hit the top of the screen (regardless of orientation) it crashes. The only exception being the Settings button. If I hit the default "north" button for example, it crashes. This requires me to either go without those buttons or move/edit them. Which I did on one of my worlds. Another issue is I exported those settings so that I could get my buttons on one of my other worlds (I recall this working on the old version) but lone behold... consistent crash everytime I try to import. As soon as I hit import it crashes. So while it is still functional, it has become extremely unstable. Then there is a minor issue with the Back button (The automatic one when you hit clear to hide the buttons) in that most of the button is actually off screen. Only a small sliver portion of the top of it remains visible. Barely clickable.

Like the app in general When I use / commands I get the following error message: [string "s"]:1: '=' expected near '' it doesn't happen with I use a client on my pc, so I'm assuming it's a coding issue with BT. Any way that can be fixed?

I use bt on my phone. I updated the app and it constantly crashes.

I use it for a multilingual MOO. It'd be perfect with international character support and a user friendlier way to Copy+Paste. ;)

Actually works on modern Android devices, which is unfortunately more than you can say for every other MU* client currently on the Play Store.

Great app, though I'd like to be able to get full UI control from a bluetooth fullsize keyboard!

It was good but the settings storing is unstable in recent updates it's also not as clean as it once was.

The program works perfectly, except a few problems. First, if the program gets shut down while it is "connected" but not to a server, then it brakes and data has to be wiped to use it. Second, if you flood data in the program crashes, but doesn't shut down. Also, (not a problem, just something Id like to see added) It can only be connected to one server at a time. And it needs notifications if it isn't an active window... thoe all in all, a wonderful app.
