About Hairy Podder

Hairy Podder is a podcast player / podcatcher without bloat that is developed with simplicity in mind. Search for podcasts published on iTunes or enter the URL directly. Play episodes using separate play lists for each podcast or a single, combined playlist with all podcasts you subscribe to. Limit the contents of your play lists based on status (played / completed) and location (downloaded / streaming). Provide nicknames for podcasts for quick reference.

Hairy Podder requires minimal system permissions to simply find, view, and play your podcasts.

I have tried pretty much every available free podcast player and not been happy with any of them. AntennaPod and Player FM came closest but both are buggy and confusing. I listen to mostly BBC radio podcast on my daily commute. Hairy Podder is unbelievably easy to use compared to any of the others. Working out how to add a podcast by search or URL is obvious and has worked flawlessly for me. The views seem obvious as well - a list of podcasts or the player. Both easy to navigate and use. Settings are also minimal and clear. Downloading episodes also works well although I have not yet been able to test the automatic update and downloaded properly (my work wifi is appalling). The dropped star is for missing features which others may not want but are essential for me: - playing the next episode after one finishes (and when all episodes in a podcast are finished play the oldest in the next podcast) so I can concentrate on my driving - the ability to skip forward (a minute?) and back (30 secs?) to find an interesting bit (the slider is not a good idea at 70mph). Adding features to a player which aims at simplicity may not happen but I think it could make a good player great.
