** This app works OFF-LINE while you are touring. There is no need to have a network or wireless connection.

Once downloaded, this tour REQUIRES NO DATA to operate and activate, so you won’t incur roaming or data charges. YOU DO NOT REQUIRE A CELLULAR NETWORK CONNECTION TO TOUR!! You will not incur any data roaming charges to use this tour, even if you are from outside the USA. Works Off-line and with Data Roaming turned OFF.

Professional tour guides have filled the guide with interesting and entertaining stories, loads of tips and advice on what to do and will point out places of interest as you approach them. There are 456 commentary points as we drive tall over Maui. It’s just like driving around with a local expert.

Note that this tour does not have commentary on the "back side" of Haleakala. We do not provide commentary this way because most rental car companies do not allow their rentals cars to be taken on this route.

Just download the app on Wi-Fi from your network at home, your resort or use any free Wi-Fi network. Because the app is filled with audio commentary and maps, its larger than "normal" apps. Many phone/data networks will block the download because of size - so its IMPORTANT to download over a Wi-Fi network.

This tour is not just a directory but a designed tour to follow, just like how a tour guide would take you. It’s simple and entertaining; just let GyPSy provide commentary automatically as you travel.

GyPSy Guides are Hawaii's favorite drive touring apps.

++ Continued use of GPS running in the background increases battery usage - we strongly recommend taking a cigarette style (DC outlet) car charger.

Excellent! For the price of a tip for a single guided tour, this app makes up for much more than that. It was informative and worked flawlessly for me. I learned a lot about Maui! 2 suggestions... 1. Dead space between commentary, how about Hawaiian music and related info? 2. I got lost near the airport, maybe more info on approaching from other directions? I highly recommend this app for people who want to explore on their own.

We are planning our trip and I've been looking at the app as it was recommended by a friend. I can't seem to find the list of highlights that was available on my friend's older version so it makes it difficult to use the app for planning. The map printing also gets smaller the more you zoom in, so you can't read it. Please fix!

It's rare that an app is so good as to inspire me to write a review, but this app really is THAT good! No data connection necessary, just turn it on and drive around Maui. Fun, informative commentary, with faultless directions, landmarks and advice. A must for any Maui visitor, and a fantastic idea!

This is the best way to tour Maui. Buy the full app and use a car charger, and let this nifty little narration take you away. We used it on the road to Hana and to get to the 7 Sacred Pools. The tour cost would have been over $250.00 for the two of us, but just $10.00 and we were seeing more and doing more than the tour groups. We also used the app for the sunrise tour to the top of the volcano. Way better info, stories, and background than our tour guide gave us and saved us another $215.00! I'm not kidding -- if you want to enjoy Maui, whether driving around randomly or going to a tourist spot, take this app with you. It's worth 10× the cost you pay. About other reviews, there is dead space between the narration, but we filled the space by talking about what we had seen, so it wasn't unpleasant to have breaks in the stories. The app does run on GPS, which can kill you're battery. Make sure to have a car charger. The GPS location was completely on point though, and only once deep in the rainforest did it have trouble keeping up with me and locating my exact spot. What I was using: Samsung S6 AT&T service 4G connection at 1-3 bars Full Maui Tour download Cigarette lighter charger adapter + cable. (don't just bring the usb cable) I made that mistake and the rental didn't have a port. Good luck to you all and enjoy!

Better than an in-person tour guide, this commentator is always timely. Explore at your own pace and the guide is always ready to jump in. Amazingly helpful.

Absolutely excellent and worth every penny! Don't mess with a book...just turn on the app and start driving.

You need to warn drivers that the road to hell, I mean Haleakala, causes altitude sickness. If you want to watch the sunrise, you must have a reservation or you'll be screwed.

Great app! It's been really useful on the road trip to Hana, Maui

So, pound for pound, we're glad we had this app. Wonderfully clever idea, and if they keep improving upon it, these ratings will continue to go up. Issues that we had: was glitchy, and I had to restart several times. No background music, and doesn't play well with anything else on your phone. Narration well timed out, but lots of silence in between, which is fine, but maybe the app could at least play some Hawaiian music? Or any music? We enjoyed the narrators' voice and helpful tips.

So much better than flipping through a guidebook and guessing at maps! This enhanced our vacation on Maui and made navigation less stressful. Definitely telling my friends. Would love a version for Washington's Olympic Peninsula.

We bought this app for our four day trip in Maui. I was expecting the standard..."Turn here" kinda stuff. But Doug (that's the name we gave him) was like having a tour guide in the car. Directions, points of interest, stories of local culture and history...it was great!! Highly recommend!!

Q70%

What a great app! Very helpful, like what to see, where to turn, where to park, where to eat, and how to get back to town. Just outstanding. Then a bit of history too. All automatically initiated by GPS Coordinates.

Q70%

Totally worth the money. A few minor glitches but otherwise very good at find information about points of interest and local attractions

Loved this app. We played it thru the radio and everyone in the car enjoyed it. Learned a lot about the history and culture with a humorous slant. Well worth the money!

Q70%

So we're listening through the whole app and talking about how awesome all of the information the narrator offers is, and then on the way to Wailea he offers a huge disgusting burp to indicate his love of food in Maui. All respect and professionalism is now gone

A70%
by A####:

My plan was to drive to Hana, spend a day there, and then do the tour on the way back, but the app appears to only work in one direction for detailed points-of-interest guidance. Unfortunately, there was no warning to that effect!

S70%

Great and informative. The main issues are requiring the screen to remain on and not allowing other apps to play music or audio. But ask in all we enjoyed the commentary and narrator.

Similar to MANY other people, it has been suggested that this app should run in the background. I've emailed them and asked the same question. How rude to not even reply.

We never would've found half of the adventures this app took us on, alone. The beauty and history of Maui unfolded before us thanks to this app. Well worth the money. Doesn't use data, just gps. Really, really amazing! !

So its worth the buy. My family used it and was happy I had bought it. Its informative and fun. However the cons, its still worth the buy for your vacation. Cons, basically it works like this, keep gps on, use a heaphone audio cord for the rental car, and plug into a power supply. Don't expect to be able to use google maps or here maps for navigation or listen to music or use your phone for pictures. Plug in and let it talk to you. Its still good, obviously repetitive if you go over the same roads.

A great idea, well executed! The pre-downloaded scripts are synced to GPS locations, so this app works great in locations with no Internet access and doesn't use up your data plan. The commentary was humorous and informative, keeping the passengers attentive. Timely info helped the driver find the best places to stop, and where to park.

Used in Maui! Didn't need to use my normal gps, just got in and drove, application suggests routes and you just go wherever you haven't been! Maui is not that big. Like the history and info lessons on places of interest! The humour makes the trip go fast! If ur in maui and want a road trip app GET THIS

I love this app and it definitely helps you find the best places to stop. The tour guide is funny and friendly. The only problem is that it talks quite often, and because of that it can disturb conversations and be quite annoying. Also it has minor bugs that don't matter that much, but still can be greatly disturbing.

Used this guide as soon as we got our rental car. Filled with lots of information about Maui and Hawaii, present and past. Helped us get from one attraction to another. Some of the commentary helped pass time an the road to Hana and Haleakala. A couple of improvements that I would like to see:. 1- Ability to not repeat commentary after passing through that marker and the audio played fully. 2- Have it run in the background. 3- Allow me to easily play all non-played commentary for roads skipped.

I bought this for our trip to Maui that we are still on and the family loved it when we did the road to Hana. Would be nice if they could add a feature that checks off the guides as you did them so you can keep track of where you have been and places left to see.

G70%

Overall this app is worth the $$. However there are some bugs in it, and some improvements need to be made. The narrative for some destinations gets stuck in a loop, the GPS doesn't remember where you were when you shut it off (to visit a site), there's no night mode, it doesn't play well with other apps on your phone, the map doesn't allow you to have the direction of your travel up on your screen. We were slso hoping for a few more hidden treasures on the road to Hana. But it's still worth it...

W70%
by W####:

Good info in Maui but doesn't work well when trying to use navigation, podcasting and/or music app (or switching to any other app using recent apps in Android for that matter). Desperately needs the ability to run in the background & pause audio in other app when a tour item plays. Not a deal breaker like the above issues but it would be a nice option to only play a tour item once or twice or at least be able to mute items manually. Good info gets annoying after you've already heard it several times.

Terrible app. The map doesn't know to focus on you. If you listen to comments and the screen turns off, the sound stops. Useless!

X70%

The app was extremely handy. As we drove the road to Hana, it pointed out many sights and attractions. On the way back, it provided Lisa of Hawaiian history. It was useful as we drove to Lahaina and other stops as well!

U70%

Good tour guidd app. I love it. Hopeful, the app could be ran at the background. It would be availabe to use navigation simultaneously.

U70%
by U####:

Don't buy the App if you plan on driving the route in "reverse." The app assumes you are returning and will not play the info you would hear if you are going to Hana the "normal" route.

Y70%
by Y####:

We bought this app before our last trip to Maui. The whole family loved it. I specially like the fact that the information presented is different on the way there and back. I think its well worth the money. I would echo some other commenters' suggestion though: it world be nice to have the app run in the background and share the GPS signal with Google map and navigation. We had two phones with us; so we used one for directions and the other for this app. It would be nice if they can run at the same time.

T70%
by T####:

The tour was really fun, accurate and well timed. All the advice seemed really helpful, and it was fun to listen to. I would suggest a few improvements. This app would be better if it was able to run in the background, in the status bar. Currently it needs to always be running and the phone screen on for it to work. It should act not like Google directions. Also, if it could play some appropriate music between all the info it would make the experience even better.

The information provided was great but everytime we stopped, even if for 1 min to take a look at the view, I had to restart the app and sometimes took several minutes and we missed turns to upcoming sights. You cant really make a u-turn on the highway so we missed them totally. It was a bummer. We also had to restart the app if we used our phone to do anything such as take a picture of the beautiful views. We finally just turned it off and relied on paper maps and our guide book.

Probably could use an update since the area and specifics change fairly quickly but overall a great travel companion!!
