What are users saying about Guitar Fretboard Challenge

I learnt the whole fretboard in a couple of weeks with this app just having fun in odd moments. I still do it a few times a week to get my speed up definately the best of the free apps. Only thing I would change is to add an option to mix up flats and sharps. 49 secs is my best time so far ☺

G70%
by G####:

The user interface is better than other apps, but there is only 1 game with no options. Problem with that is, beginners need to focus on 2-3 strings only, so testing them on the whole fretboard right away is not ideal.

P70%
by P####:

Probably best to study a printout of all the notes first. Then open this app every day to study. Im a beginner but i can already name all the notes on the fretboard with the help of this app. Im slow at it but if I practice... i should have no problems. I would suggest this app.

W70%
by W####:

So the app asked me to rate it after only a few minutes of use. Seems like it will be helpful for memorizing the notes on the fretboard ,but I will need more time to give it a proper rating. Right now all I can give is a 3.

K70%
by K####:

I made my own solution to not being able to break down the fretboard into sections. I recommend learning one note at a time across your fretboard each day and then use this app. This practice combo has skyrocketed my mastery of the fretboard. For example, one day pull up a diagram and find all the G's and memorize them. The next day memorize another note across the fretboard. Then combine it with this app and it works very well.

K70%
by K####:

Five stars if it had some options, be nice to opt what strings u want to practice on only, get one string down then move onto the next one.

G70%
by G####:

Great app! Really push you to do it fast! Didn't notice that no sound could be an issue. Just maybe you can add pause button - I was sweating after a few minutes

K70%
by K####:

Its good for what it says it does. Im looking for one that calls out the notes like D# on 5th string and you play it, intgrates with a tuner to verify you were correct. This app let's you practice any where w/o a guitar

P70%
by P####:

I would give five stars if there was play back and if you could limit the questions to segments of frets or just one or more individual strings. One star for each feature.

K70%
by K####:

I was surprised that the game starts right in to using the whole fretboard. Levels to pass and levels that use flats would be good additions. More repetition might be good as well - we will see how well it helps with memorization as it is.

As others have said, a sound feedback would be great to provide some ear training as well. Another nice to have feature would be to include scales with the possibility of the user to select the scale he/she wants to test/remember.

K70%
by K####:

Could use a feature to limit how many frets that are used during the test. E.x 4 fret to 6. Or 1 fret to 5 fret. Etc. But otherwise great app.

F70%
by F####:

People are complaining about sound but recognizing notes on a fret board and notes by ear is different. I recomend this app for anyone who's serious about music theory and scales. But good to know anyway.

P70%
by P####:

Pretty nice app, though it could use a few options such as adjustable parameters, such as especially if you want to zero in on a particular zone. I've found it helps to divide the fretboard up into zones and learn the zones and then bring it all together for a complete mastery of the entire fretboard. Having sound would be a nice addition as well.

K70%
by K####:

Wish there was a learning section ... Sure would help since the notes move on so quickly.

K70%
by K####:

Great practice. Can't adjust the practice settings but it's great to use.

K70%
by K####:

Smooth running, easy to use and helpful. Wish it offered more, like seeing incorrect answers and hearing sound. Needs more variation in the learning games

N70%
by N####:

This takes the dryness out of something I've been trying to get into my head lately. Good app!

K70%
by K####:

It will take concentration to start, but once you get a few tricks you can really start to learn fast. I would recommend learning the 3,5,7,9 frets on the E and A string and learning a few octave patterns first. It helped me a ton!

K70%
by K####:

This is great, it just doesn't really feel that much like a game. You should try to add some more features to the actual gameplay. Other than that, it's awesome. I just hope it will translate to my playing.

I70%
by I####:

I like this app, how I said in the title it's basic but practicing daily become you in a "master" (knowing the notes)...the other is the real practice with the guitar... i mean, ...because one thing is in your screen and other is with the instrument

J70%
by J####:

This is really helping me learn the fretboard once and for all. Some welcome improvements would be to be able to pick a certain part of the fretboard (like first 5 frets), and also an option to practice flats and not just sharps. Maybe sounds could be implemented as well? Overall it's very handy though.

N70%
by N####:

I would give it 5 stars if you could change how many notes you can identify per round, kept stats, and had a way to look at all the notes on the fretboard simultaneously. This along with a report at the end with what notes you missed would be great because the pop up of the correct note is really short.

B70%
by B####:

Previous reviewers have covered the few yet critical cons (no audio & omission of flatted notes being my two issues) which keeps this from being a five-star app. I would like to see various testing durations to accommodate intense study periods and quick reviews during work breaks. Nevertheless an essential app for guitar learning.

Q70%

Smooth running, easy to use and helpful. Wish it offered more, like seeing incorrect answers and hearing sound. Needs more variation in the learning games

Q70%

Allows me to focus on notes when I can play guitar. Also helps me to focus... if i had my guitar in my hands I'd start playing instead of learning.

Q70%
by Q####:

I am a beginner and was looking for an app to teach me the notes, you have to already be familiar with them to use this app.

W70%
by W####:

I'm a beginner so it's a great help. App improvement would be to have sound to hear notes also.

Q70%
by Q####:

Really good but I wish it had flats and sounds to work the ears. Still a great exercise!

T70%
by T####:

I really like it!! I'd give it a five-star be there note sounds to help with brain association. Plus, having no pop-ups is great. Thanks for the creation for beginners-intermediate! Hope u will get sounds added, then I will return to 5-star it once that happens.

A70%
by A####:

It has been super helpful learning the fret and notes especially since I hardly ever get to practice on an instrument. Would be great as mentioned by others to hear the note to get acquainted with what it sounds like. Also would like to see best score/improvement.

Z70%

I have just installed this and did my initial run on this and believe this will be valuable!

Q70%

Fun and challenging. You learn as you play.

V70%
by V####:

Not only does the application prepare you in gaining more confidence in your guitar playing, it also builds your theoretical foundation in music. Great guys. Rumps up man.

C70%
by C####:

I can see the advantage of this, but there should at least be a sound option so users can get some ear training as well.

L70%
by L####:

I would give five stars if there was play back and if you could limit the questions to segments of frets or just one or more individual strings. One star for each feature.

C70%
by C####:

should be no problem to add sounds, even if only cheap midi. just to help the brain associate note for note. also, just for kicks, add the option to change the tuning of the guitar. however sound alone would garner a fifth star

C70%
by C####:

It's a solid and easy to use app. As others have mentioned, I would really like to see something for ear training. Another thing would be to add a couple different game variations. For example, find the notes of the Major scale etc.

C70%
by C####:

I thought this was a cool, quick, killing time kind of app. It really keeps my mind sharp and is great for beginners!!!! I gave it 4 stars for ease of use, great app for beginner to intermediate. If you play guitar you should have this chillin on your phone. What I would like to see are correct incidentals for a certain key or maybe alternate tunings.

Helps me fill in the gaps in my music theory when learning new soloing scales. Great.
