About Scribe Origins

This app is only for you if you want to learn ALL characters.
If you want the ability to learn 3000 - 4000 characters in 3 months.
If you want to learn visually, with advanced primitive breakdown of every character.

- Primitive radicals for 4,800 kanji + hanzi characters (e.g. 親 (parent) is made of 見, 立, 木).
- 6 kanji + hanzi language sets: JLPT, JOYO, HSK, TOCFL, Taiwan School System, Hong Kong School System character sets. Covering all major Japanese writing and Chinese writing systems.
- 7 kanji games: Kanji Flashcards, Kanji Multiple Choice, Kanji Scrabble, Kanji Tiles, Kanji Matchup, Kanji Blockfall Keywords, Kanji Blockfall Primitives.
- Unified keywords across all kanji + hanzi character sets, based as closely to the original meaning as possible (and you can download customised lists too!)
- Spaced-Repetition System that.. is simply incredible. When you get down into the deeper levels with thousands of characters to remember, you'll be amazed at how accurately the right character comes along.
- Similar character, character usage, Japanese dictionary + Chinese dictionary of common words all included per card.

Scribe Origins is designed to help you RAPIDLY learn kanji and learn hanzi.

And whichever language you want to learn, starting to study kanji first or starting to study hanzi first, you'll build the base keywords that apply to ALL Chinese characters.

Scribe Origins is the ultimate study tool to learn Chinese characters. It's more than just a kanji dictionary. It covers the entire practical set of the Chinese alphabet. All of the "Chinese letters" in Chinese writing, used in both Japanese language and Chinese language.

Practice reading kanji and reading hanzi while seeing the primitive breakdown which hints at the underlying meaning of the Chinese character.

Learning the hiragana, katakana, and Japanese kanji is vital for having a foundational understanding of Japanese language. And for Chinese students, learning each Chinese character of the Chinese alphabet is key for every single word in the Mandarin Chinese language.

Writing always comes FIRST in learning a language, as it allows your brain to specifically link word sounds, word meanings, and their written form together. Whereas learning to speak Japanese or speak Chinese before learning writing means your brain will learn one set of links, then needs to unlearn them and re-learn them, which is why most language students take 3 years to learn a language. To study Japanese and study Chinese efficiently and effectively, the Chinese writing system is foundational.

Even if you don't think you'll using Japanese writing or Chinese writing, being able to read Japanese & read Chinese is an imperative skill to easily understand the language.

Scribe Origins is far more than a Japanese kanji dictionary. Far more than a Chinese hanzi dictionary. It is an expertly-linked system of 4800 characters, visually linked by primitives.

I recently switched from an iPhone to an Android, and I was SO HAPPY to see this app in Google Play. The disappointment came when I saw it wasn't as good as the iOS version. The other version includes furigana readings of the kanji, which in my opinion are essential. I don't want to just understand/recognize the kanji; I want to pronounce them as well! Please, developers, PLEASE mirror the iOS version!!!! With that I would give it 5 stars without a doubt.

Few bugs present: 'car' must be different from 'mist', and 'cave' from a 'cover'... I think iOS app is better a little

Please include furigana in the app for Japanese like in the iOS version. Having to scroll down on the kanji card to see the reading makes it a highly inefficient studying tool for Japanese. As you haven't supported the android version of the app since 2013, I'm afraid that won't happen. A great app on iOS, shame you waste the potential in the android version.

I have a friend with iOS and he showed me this app, it was great looking and no problems. I end up paying a dollar for an app that isn't the same. Many of the characters are screwed up, especially radicals. For example: the radical for school shows up as an english "w" and the image is just a box showing that the character is missing. If this was fixed, it would definitely be a 5 star app.

more errors than a politician's accountant. no furigana, so forget about learning on yomi and kun yomi. if not for these two problems it would be great, or at least comparitive to the ios version

Great app. Definitely worth the price. Presents extra info that I'm finding pretty useful. It has notes on some characters to note differences with characters that are almost identical. Also shows similar characters which helps in noting the differences between similar characters. There is a problem with the radicals animation. It doesn't work until you click in the comment box. You only have to do this on one character, to fix the rest. Despite this minor problem, it's still a five star app in my opinion.

This app is perfect for studying kanji. The only reason I don't rate it 5 stars is because of a few bugs, but nothing that breaks the app.

This looks like a great app, and I'm sure with just a little tweaking it would be. At least on my Galaxy S III Android, the characters displayed on the kanji's composite forms page all overlay each other in the center of the screen, rendering them illegible. Could you please fix this so smartphone users like myself can use this great-looking app? Excited to get started with it.

The style is perfect for tablet learning for Kanji. The landscape view needs work for large tablets like Sony Xperia Z (1920 * 1080 resolution).

Great IOS app; Android version has display issues: empty characters and boxes instead of Chinese characters. I also spotted content mistakes that the IOS version did not have.
