Iceland Geothermal Conference

The Iceland Geothermal Conference (IGC 2016), is proud to announce that it will be holding the third edition of the event at the Harpa Conference Centre in Reykjavík, between the 26th and 29thof April 2016.
The event, hosted by the Iceland Geothermal Cluster Initiative (http://icelandgeothermal.is/) , will be focusing the advantages of utilising geothermal energy and how they will benefit us.In collaboration with our sponsors, speakers and guests, we want to drill deep into three main topics: Operability, Feasibility, Practicality.

Operability

• Building a plant is one thing, operating it and managing the resource is another.

• Participants will share their experiences in dealing with fluids of various chemical compositions and non-condensable gases. We will explore resource management, re-injection, plant maintenance programs, sustainability criteria, and plant operations. As well as highlight case studies from all over the world.

• The goal of the session is to discuss the challenging tasks that the industry has been facing regarding the operation of geothermal plants and resources, and share the results.

Feasibility

• Assessing the feasibility of a geothermal prospect. Exploring milestones in the process of realizing a geothermal project.

• Governmental, institutional and private framework, incentives, laws and regulation - blessing or a burden? Will the demand for increased energy independence push for further utilization of geothermal resources? What is it that makes or breaks a successful geothermal project? Financing projects and risk assessment, the industry has for years discussed ways to lower the risk of exploration, but has any progress been made?

• The goal of the session is to examine why some geothermal projects are successful and others are not. What are the developments for tackling obstacles blocking the realization of geothermal prospects?

Practicality

• The industry has shown that positive aspects of geothermal utilization are enormous. Is there potential to do better, or has the industry reached the end of the line?

• Case studies will be presented with focus on the domino/snowball effect of geothermal projects. Case studies including an International Deep Drilling Project; industrial use of geothermal energy; food processing using geothermal energy; and chemical recovery from brine and resource parks. The concept of turning waste to value will be explored and supported with examples.

• The goal of the session is to explore the responses to an ever-increasing demand for better utilization of the resources and energy, using every potential to expand generate increased value.
