DukeEngage 2017 Resource Guide

Annually, DukeEngage prepares participants for their immersive service with training events and resources. The DukeEngage mobile application guides students through the Fortin Foundation DukeEngage Academy, an event that unites students, faculty, summer staff, and community collaborators. Through workshops, unique and motivating speakers, group reflection and team-building time, DukeEngage provides the groundwork and tools for effective civic engagement, safety and self-care, as well as fostering an ethos of critical reflection about the world around us and our place in it.

It is our hope that students will:

- Set personal goals for the DukeEngage summer and identify useful resources.

- Hear the stories of others and look to these experiences for motivation and inspiration.

- Cultivate humility about their civic engagement experience.

- Discover more about community partners & the reciprocal exchange of knowledge.

- Engage with their cohort through site-specific meetings and reflection.

- Examine approaches to development and acquire strategies for effective service.

- Learn about post-DukeEngage research opportunities and other connections to their course of study.

- Develop a personal commitment to service.
