The Guardian daily edition for Android
Never had a problem downloading each day's paper. But unlike a subscription direct from the Guardian, you do NOT get premium access to the phone app if you subscribe through the Play Store.
Worked well for 3 weeks then failed to load without uninstall and reinstall, this happened twice and then the app wouldn't open at all. Very little help or advice available. I have paid good money for this because it was very good when it worked. I thought I was going to have to cancel my subscription unless I could find a fix. The app updated itself around 18th August 2016 and then ceased to work. My ASUS Phone Pad needed a system update to run the updated app, it is now working OK. Found under settings under the About heading, it took about 20 minutes in all. So far so good.
It is unreliable as it frequently tells me no new issues can be found, despite me seeing the cover of the day's newspaper. It is not a WiFi issue and the only way is to update the app ( if there is one) or uninstall it and reinstall. I have had to do this again today and now it no longer recognises my ID and postcode so I cannot read the paper I have paid for. This app is so disappointing. It really lets down the brand and as it is the vehicle paid subscriptions are viewed by it is not upto standard.
A bit flaky when doing the early morning download before I wake up. Makes good use of Android intents by opening the app for Guardian URLs, so even a link on Twitter gets the best native rendering.
After persevering for several years I have finally lost patience with this app, which constantly crashes, and have cancelled my subscription. My advice is to stick to the paper and free web versions of the Guardian.
As a regular Guardian reader i love the convenience of this app. It lets me read the daily newspaper without the paper. It loses one star simply because it is restricted to tablets. I would love to be able to use it on my phone,
Great App...just one gripe, the headline of many pages overlaps the article below which makes it difficult to read the first few lines...otherwise great.
The app is really good but I can not move it to my SD card and it takes up a massive amount of memory.
To date, I have had none of the problems described by others. But then I'm using a tablet, not a phone.
Low resolution images and graphics in tablet (landscape) mode. I would expect better from my favourite newspaper.
I can't change font size and since it's a paid 4 subscription, it is not good
It's not free, uninstalling
Can' change font size. Too small for my device.
I will cancel my subscription. The whole reason to buy it was ease of access to good quality contect. Dont have time play around to read a paper on sunday morning. Fix this
Was reliable but now flaky and, in past two weeks, I have been unable to open any content. Wasting my money and it hurts. A former loyal Guardian reader.
I like this content but in the last few days when I try to download new issues the download fails immediately. I have reset all data and also uninstalled and reinstalled. Guardian please help before I unsubscribe please. Update 14/10/15: issue resolved. Thank you Guardian.
I give up. Cancelled subscription. Keeps crashing, page formatting is messed up. No ability to report errors or comment. Are there any cartoons?
As of 10 Oct, as others have reported, won't download. And if you phone support they say they're closed! Fixed after 2 days, so whole weekend without the Guardian and the Observer. I'm considering whether to continue with subscription. Later: I've given up now. Blank (missing) pages too often, and fed up with small text size. The live app, which is free, or cheaper if you want no ads, is much better.
I'm a loyal reader but the constant issues with downloading are inexcusable. Years of terrible service and hours of wasted time trying to download completely inaccessible content. The app is great when it works but it so seldom does. Give up and use the other guardian app, this one simply doesn't work.
Won't download sent an email to support but they don't work weekend. A disappointing weekend without my newspapers.. Why do i pay for this?
And yet another update. After several emails back and forth, the tech support people found and eliminated the problem. App works just fine now, and is a lot easier and pleasanter to read than the regular app or the website. Kudos to them; they are responsive and persistent! [Previous review follows] This weekend, huge sections started loading as blank pages. Force-stopping and reloading gets it working for a while, but then more blank pages appear. To read everything I was interested in today (which was not the whole paper) I had to force-stop it 4-5 times. This is not good.
Today's Observer is largely blank, news OK and the Section pages but most of the content is missing....what are we paying for ? Update: 15.11.15. Again missing content...does anybody at the Guardian read this ?
I'm starting to like it, but I would like to see the sudoku (regular and killer) included.
I want to like this but.. 1. It crashes too often / all pages go blank 2. Headline text obscures article text 3. Text in graphics is unreadable (the is no zoom facility) etc.. Please fix
Not even a glimmer of hope that you might get the paper. Deleted and reinstalled 3 times still nothing. Might try the Telegraph.... Only joking..
Dropping the rating for the time being.... I'm getting lots of blank pages. "Contact us" is also coming up blank.
Despite promising "bug fixes" (of which there were many), this new upgrade means that like so many others I cannot even download the paper. Great start!
The website claims you can get a 14 day free trial. But this doesn't appear to be possible. They want your payment details or provide nothing.
Can't download any papers today. No technical help line available. Not impressed. If I can't rely on service I shall have to cancel and subscribe to another paper. GUARDIAN GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER
Has stopped working. Content won't download. Please fix asap.
This app has always been a nuisance, I used to have to fix repeatedly by uninstalling and reinstalling - not easy when travelling abroad with slow WiFi downloads. Now I can't even uninstall. Gets worse not better.
When it works it is pretty decent to use (though sometimes some of the content does not look good on the app - particularly true of graphs and charts). Unfortunately, all too often the pages go blank and the only way to get any viewable content is to keep killing the app until it finally starts working properly.
Exactly as others have described, has given up downloading. As have I. Pathetic.
This app fails constantly. Uninstalling and reinstalling makes no difference. How the Guardian organisation has the nerve to charge for this rubbish "service" is beyond me.
I like the Guardian, and the idea of the app. When it works it's mostly good, but it's is unreliable. As of today 10 October, nothing works, and not being able to read the paper when I have time to do so really defeats the point of it. No support either as it's the weekend! Very poor Guardian.
It crashes all the time. I rebooted my tablet and was able to download and read for while but when I exited and tried to reenter it crashed again. This app is just not ready yet. I use the iPad version with success and was thinking of switching to Android but I think I will have to use both for a while.
Great app in theory, but the content doesn't load sometimes unless I reinstall, which I need to do every couple of days. Please fix it because I love my daily paper!
With crashes even occurring in the settings menu and the Guardian expecting people to pay subscriptions this app certainly is a bad joke. After nearly half a year an update has been made. Hopefully the Guardian are ready to give it their full support.
This used to work OK but would frequently crash. Since yesterday it won't even open. So frustrating for a paid for app. Update: download keeps failing immediately despite resetting data and reinstalling app repeatedly- I have now cancelled subscription

Great app but with a few bugs. The contents pages are low resolution, the headline text looks pixelated. Would be nice to have save article feature and auto download in the morning.
