App Name Editor for Android
Creates shortcuts albiet with some having very small icons... and then they get reverted back to original name on next boot! So basically futile app.
For all of those who wrote bad reviews, don't blame the developer, its impossible to change the source code in the app data without rooting the app.
FYI (One star rated idiots) - Rename ur app in this app & add the shortcut via this app.. Don't rate bad cuz u r foolish!
Figuring out how to use it wasn't the most intuitive thing, but that's not the problem. The renames only stick around for about a day and then they revert back. What good is that?
I don't know but it's not the app I'm looking for. It works fine at first but only on the home screen. But as soon as you turn off your device the app you renamed will get back to its original name.
Every once in a while I get an App that has one letter on the second line on my Home Page (or something similar) and I wish I could rename it. This APP is Exactly what I need. I don't understand the Negative comments and reviews. I agree with the guy who said: "After you rename the App you have to create a shortcut to your home page". This does exactly what I need and I am assuming most people must be using it incorrectly. Does what it's supposed to do...it renames Apps! Completely fixed my problem.
Just the same issue as with other reviewers. I run a Galaxy note 3, and edited an app name, opened the shortcut to my home screen, and everything was fine. I then turned my phone off, and the app name defaulted to it's previous title. It defaults if I restart my phone too. I KNOW I'm doing things correctly too! A pity, as it seemed a great idea, but I'm uninstalling it
After reading all the bad reviews, I thought that this app won't work. I downloaded the app just to give it a try and I can say it does work. People saying that it doesn't work just don't know how to use it.
Does not work at all on note 3. No search function. Smallllllll wording within app. When advertising big icons. Just plain horrible app.
Works exactly as described ignore all the noob reviews. The person who said changes are lost after reboot is incorrect.
At first I couldn't get it to work but I forgot the second step... Changing icons takes 2 steps: 1. Hit the edit icon button 2. Go back to icon then add to home screen. Also awesome that the counters stay with the icon unlike other programs that do the same. Could improve app by adding a icons app and making the icons larger. Pretty small on gs6 screen
The app does change the names but the reviewers are right and the one who called them idiots must fit into the same category because after you rename your app and turn off, restart or after timing out for a long period of time the original name of the app comes back. This is after you do all the proper steps of changing the name and adding it to the home screen. This app only temporary changes the name.
I read some reviews about people saying it doesn't work. But it works fine for me... I'd give it 5 stars, but when you restart your phone, the changed names reset to normal. Other than that, it does what I needed it to do
It does what it exactly says... 1) Open the app 2) change the name of the app whitin "App Name Editor" 3) while on the app chose to make a shortcut the shortcut will be added to your screen.. and you can remove the app with the original name. The problem with this app is that after restart everything goes back to the original name
It works really well and i really like it but i did have a few issues of it not keeping the names so i would have to rename it again and the only apps you can rename are the ones you have installed on download. So if you install a new app that you want to rename plan on uninstalling this then reinstalling just to do so. Overall does its job and does it well. Just like 2 things i would fix for it to be perfect.
When I first used the app and changed the name on something I was upset that nothing happened. I learned that you have to click the ''add shortcut to home" in order for the change to occur. Also as a side note, I noticed that it shrunk the icon a bit which is a little annoying.
Keeps the names changed on my home screen for a few days, then they revert back and I have to readd the app to my home screen. Would be 5 stars if I didn't have to keep readding
The app works fine, the people who say it doesn't are morons. After you edit an app's name, you have to select "Add shortcut to home", then youll see your name change on the home screen only. It doesnt change the name of it in your apps area, only on your home screen(s). Without root, changing a name inside the app folder is impossible. I don't understand all of the whining going on lol.. its a free app and works fine..It may look really basic and not have alot of features, but can you complain about free?
This app shouldnt exist they should MAKE IT A REAL APP who agrees with me
I was hesitant in thinking this app would work because of its rating, but it does if you are sure to follow the second step by re-adding the app to the home screen (you have to do it from inside of the app). The app description clearly states that it changes the app name on the HOME screen. After editing the app name be sure to click on it once more and select add shortcut to home screen. The app name will not be edited otherwise.
This is a legit review using a Galaxy Tab 4, Android 4.4.2. At first it worked perfectly even after restarting a few times. Sometime while the Tab was still on, the renamed shortcuts reverted to their original names! Restarting didn't help. Then I discovered it wouldn't detect new apps. There was no way to find the extra options as pictured above. The whole point is to KEEP the renamed shortcuts, not constantly rename them! Duh! I tried an app called xShortcut FREE. It works great and has many features.
Easy to use but only works as long as you never need to restart your phone! If your phone dies when you restart the phone all the apps whose names you've changed will be right back to what they were named before, the reviewers who insult the unhappy users have obviously not turned off or restarted their phone, but when they do they will see they are the idiots! This app is a let down!
S6 edge - used to work exactly how I expected, now it doesn't. Was good while it lasted.
1. It will change names back to default if phone restarted or turned off n on. 2. Won't work for apps installed after installing this name editor app.
This was very simple and exactly what I needed. it only took me a few minutes to rename all of my apps with my password hints. I love this app, very cool, works great! 5 STARS!
This app allowed me to change the name of app that was confusing and annoying to see each time I went to my desktop. App Name Editor simply works, period, and no, I’m not on the developers payroll. What some users who have complained about the app seem to miss is that the new icon with the name change must be added to the desktop after the original app name is edited (i.e., select icon to be edited, EDIT APPLICATION, change name, OK, select edited icon, ADD SHORTCUT TO HOME) Once out of App Name Editor and onto the desktop, two icons for the edited app icon will be present, the original one and the edited one. You can leave both or remove the original one from the desktop. I do not see any lag in bringing up an app with the edited icon. This missed step has been explained by other reviewers as well. I do not usually write lengthy reviews like this one but I believe this app has gotten a bad “rap." In any case, App Name Editor is a pretty handy app for personalizing and adding a little intuitiveness to the desktop in terms of personally confusing app names. Although, I would not use it to overhaul the desktop (i.e., the issue of losing the edited app names after a restart).
I can't change the names! I even created a home screen shortcut but nothing happened! Please tell me if I did something wrong, I'm have a Moto E btw.
It works really well and i really like it but i did have a few issues of it not keeping the names so i would have to rename it again and the only apps you can rename are the ones you have installed on download. The app does exactly what it is supposed to do. It did not work for me at first because I did not add the shortcut to the home screen. So, after you change the name of the app, click to add it to your home screen and then send the old icon to the trash bin.
This app works fine... But partial.. We can change name but as soon as we restart the phone all the apps change back to their orignal default name.. This was not Expected... Can the developer work on this and please reply...
Fake, it doesn't work, useless, pointless, waste of time. Do not get it.
If you shut your phone off.. SOME apps that rely on the Internet for their name revert back to their original names. Other apps like "Camera" that don't rely on Internet will stay re-named
I am new to Android, so I may be doing something wrong. Having said that, I can not rename shortcuts with this app.
After u edit application...make sure to add a short cut to your home page..go look for it a d this the new app that you wan
U dont know how to use it click the app u want and rename it. Then click add to homescreen. TA DA!
When you change the name of any installed app, there's always 2. The one with the different name, & the oridginal one.
Everybody Saying It Doesn't Work, You Have To Change The Name Then Make A New Home Shortcut!! It Helped Me Hide Apps Because I Could Change The Name Of The App With This, And Then Change The App Icon With Another App. So Now Nosey People Can't Tell I Have Kik Because It Looks Like "Calendar" On My Home Screen. Works Perfect!!
Idiot I'm not! Thought this app was great & happily renamed multiple apps, all of which dutifully appear on the home pages, if you select create shortcut & you have a space for it to go.... Great, until that is you restart your machine, then every one of them just reverts to it's original name. I foolishly did this twice, assuming I'd done something wrong, but no, the renaming effect lasts for as long as you leave your machine on! What use is that?
Figuring out how to use it wasn't the most intuitive thing, but that's not the problem. The renames only stick around for about a day and then they revert back. What good is that?

It work but u send it to home and its just like now u have two. If u can make it just name it and then not put it in again just with a different name so u dont have two just original I would give 5.
