* Dim your screen below the built-in settings for some devices
* Set custom brightness settings, providing quick access to change your screen brightness

Even on its lowest Brightness setting, many people find that their screen can be too bright for reading in a dark room. GSam Screen Dimmer often lets you dim the screen way past what the built-in brightness setting will allow, giving you a much better night reading experience. You can dim your screen without ever leaving the app you are currently running. Better yet, you can see the content on your screen while you dim - no need to launch into separate screens.
NOTE:
* Not all devices will let you dim the screen past the default settings.
* The Free version contains ads. Upgrade to the Pro version to remove the adds.
* This app was designed with e-readers such as the Kindle Fire in mind, however it will function well on all Android devices, including Phones and Tablets.
Permission Explanations:
* SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW: Allows the dimmer to dim the screen below the system settings even when it's not the active foreground app. This is a dangerous setting to allow, however it is required for the screen dimmer.
* WRITE_SETTINGS: Allows the dimmer to update the system brightness setting.
* INTERNET: Allows the Free version to show Ads. This permission is not included in the Pro version.
* RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: Allows the dimmer to automatically start up whenever you restart your devices. You can control this setting in the preferences.

I have used this app on my Kindle Fire for years and it has probably saved my marriage! It allows me to read at night without disturbing my husband when he goes to bed early. I love that I can dim my screen lower than the mfg's set limits! I have now installed it on my new Android app and it still works great!

According to 'find battery killer' app this app is the major cause of draining battery in my HTC one x, I'm using Francos kernels v21 & have wipped dalvik cache just to make sure nothing weird is going on. Going to remove it now as battery seem to be draining very fast.

2 week old Asus infinity and it was almost broken, I was trying to read at night and the screen was too bright so I set this to the lowest and then my screen completely disappeared luckily I rebooted and the screen does load up normal brightnness before any apps kick in, just enough time for me to change the brightness and disable the app, this is now uninstalled from my tablet never to be used again

Nice, easy to use. On Galaxy Tab 7 (first one, not 2), this doesn't give me any more dimness than what Samsung already gave us, so not needed for this tablet... Of course that's not this app's fault. What would be cool is if this implemented some light-sensor based auto-dimming, for devices that do not already do this - That would make this a five-star.

I tried a couple other brightness utils and this is by far the best. Great auto config routine as well. I can finally set the brightness to a comfortable level at night.

Work great on Google Nexus. Dimmer then initial setting therefore give me a great moment in a total dark room using the phone.

There should b a built in safety to time out during test setup. If its completely black and u can't see enough to respond, it should go back to previous setting. Otherwise, the best out of all the free dimmers. Will be buying full version.

Except, inside the Kindle app it is the same brightness between 4 and (. 4). Brightness is slightly less than Kindle built in lowest setting but not by much. When calibrating looks much darker at some points.

I loved this app for the time I had it on JB but I went back a version to ICS and it wouldn't dim the screen below what the normal settings would. I got JB again and it wouldn't let me do the same thing again. I don't know if I originally had a glitch or not but it was a great aop and exactly what I was looking for when it worked! I hope it's updated!

Worat app ever i had used!! Will f*** you! I tried to get mininmum brigtness for display. Jus scrolling downwards n atlast the diaplay gets full dim! Its blank display! Whats dat? I have to give my smartfone to service centre to uninstall dis app. Worst!!!!!!

Calibration went down to 0.1% on my device. Not sure it made any difference to the minimum possible brightness. Quick access brightness levels are useful though.
