About Circuit Laundry

Circuit Laundry App

Use our latest smart-scan technology - and pay for your laundry with your phone.

Make doing the laundry less of a hassle with a mobile app that's as easy-to-use as our washing machines and dryers! The Circuit Laundry app lets you top up your Circuit app account* in seconds, and then you're good to go...just turn up at your nearest Circuit launderette, load your laundry, scan a machine's QR code and select the programme you want to start - job done! Your credit will be adjusted automatically so you'll always have your circuit account balance to hand. No need to stay and watch your washing.

Once the washer or dryer gets going the app also gives you a countdown** that tells you how long there is to go until your laundry is done.

* Please note that your Circuit app account is separate to your laundry card account you access from the Circuit website. If you haven’t used the Circuit app before you will need to sign up separately on the app. Balances from your laundry card cannot be transferred to your Circuit app account and vice versa.

**The app will rely on your phone having a wi-fi, 3G or 4G signal inside the laundry room to activate the machines - and also to see the countdown on the cycle if you leave to do something else while your wash completes. As long as you're connected, you can see how long is left on your chosen cycle and get on with other things instead of waiting in the launderette.

By downloading this app, you agree to the following T&C's:

You accept that you have a non-exclusive licence to use the app. You agree not to copy the app or infringe our intellectual property rights in the app.

The minimum amount of top-up credit you can buy is £5.00. Your payment will be processed through PayPal and Circuit will not hold any card details.

You can apply for a refund of part-used top-up credit by emailing us at apprefund@circuit.co.uk with details of registered email address, the date of the in-App purchase, the amount of credit purchased, and the amount of credit to be refunded. No refund will be given on balances of less than £5.00. Refunds will incur an administration charge of £3.00, which will be deducted directly from the refund value. Refunds will be made using the payment method used for the purchase. No refund will be processed for any free credit. Unused credits will expire 12 months after the date of purchase. Please see our website www.circuit.co.uk for more information.

They say that a million monkeys bashing their foreheads on typewriters will eventually write Shakespeare. Well some of the rejected monkeys must have been recruited to write this app, because since my college converted to this system nobody has been able to pay for their laundry. Top job.

The QR code scanner shows the camera upside down, the machine status displays 10 minutes less than the machine itself, and there's a minimum top up of £5. I have also been double charged for a dryer that didn't work, and I'm still without a response from customer support over a week later.

X70%
by X####:

I made an account using the app, topped up 10 pounds, and then the app crashed. Tried logging in using the user and password, and it's not working, they don't exist aparently... When i tried to recover my account, the email address doesn't exist. I cleared the catch and the app is working, made again a new account with the same email address, and zero balance. So i had to make an account using the website, and i got a confirmation email. I emailed them and got back the money on my laundry card the same day

by X####:

Half the time I can't use the machines because the app is so shoddy. I currently have damp laundry sitting in my room because I was unable to use a dryer thanks to the app! DO NOT USE THIS APP, GET A LAUNDRY CARD INSTEAD

R70%
by R####:

Absolutely terrible. No built in support and if you call in they can't help at all after hours! App can't deal with WiFi switching AT ALL! So make sure if you have to use this POC that you stay on WiFi the whole time or have absolutely perfect 4G. Also the times given on the app are waaaay off of the actual machine so make sure you keep track based on when the machine says it will be done. Terrible programming, shoddy interface, and non functioning tech equal this nightmare of an app.

On the rare occasion it works then yeah sound. Most of the Time i get a time remaining in seconds rather than minutes which obviously destroys the point of having it timed on your app. The other half the time the machines don't let you press start because the phone vend hasn't actually gone through, and who doesn't love getting charged for a wash that doesn't work and paying for detergent to sit in a machine. Congratulations i still have no clean clothes and no idea how to contact you. Bravo.

Everytime I try add money to my account it still says £0 after it claimed my login with PayPal was succesful. Just want to wash some clothes for god sake why has it come down to apps controlling everything ?

X70%
by X####:

Never lets me wash my clothes, either crashes, won't take my money, says it's washing when it's not, or simply refuses. I just had to take all my dirty washing back to the flat and now I'm writing this review on a sheetless bed, wrapped in unwashed rags like a bedraggled gypsy slave child.  Aside from this, items of clothing often go missing. I believe each machine steals one sock from each wash, which filters into a central body, to be later sold on the black market. It's a conspiracy.

K70%
by K####:

If you want to put any money onto your account, you have to either give them your card details or sign into PayPal INSIDE their app. Yeah no thanks guys, I have no idea who you are, and I'm definitely not trusting you with my details.

G70%

Spent four hours now just trying to use this. Card wasn't working so that's £20 disappeared. Tried the app and I can top up as I get an error message???

B70%
by B####:

The second time I came to do laundry the system which allows the app to communicate with the machines seemed to have failed right when I was trying to dry my freshly washed clothes. This left me in a situation where I was essentially without wearable clothes and could not wash or dry any of my other clothes. Perhaps if the machines were equipped with an alternative way of paying in the event of a failure like this, (such as contactless payments or even coins) you would find fewer negative reviews.

O70%
by O####:

Never had so many problems with an app! So often I find the washing machines won't register that I've just payed to use them! An awful waste of money and time, if you can use a different service for your laundry, please do.

S70%
by S####:

Nothing I have experienced in this world has made me this angry in a single moment. If you have any chance of not using circuit for your laundry then you must take it, do it for those of us that don't have the option, that don't stand a chance, that have to go comando tomorrow because paypal failed again and we can't do our washing.

X70%
by X####:

I would rather suck Andy Leeming's Grans' big toe than use this app again.

X70%
by X####:

This app periodically fails to work with machines, which will leave you in a difficult situation on a regular basis. Absolute mess.

P70%
by P####:

Just save yourself some grief and get a card instead. Would have been left with wet clothes if a flatmate hadn't lent me his card, as the machines decided to stop recognising my phone after the first wash. Apparently I'm not the first person either. Sort it out.

P70%
by P####:

App is OK. I have problems with scanning the qr code and sometimes the app is down which is inconvenient to say the least. The main problem however, is the washing machines. I put my clothes in to give them a wash make them clean BUT... lo and behold they come out much dirtier than when they went in. Streaks of dirt across my clothes. This has happened multiple times. I have tried to figure out if the problem is with the load I put in but no it isn't. I have tried multiple washing machines with different loads and the same problem occurs. This has led me to the conclusion the problem is with the washing machines... CLEAN THEM. It's a scam. Paying 2.50 for a wash only for your clothes to come out dirtier. I would be better off hand washing my clothes or not washing them at all.

X70%
by X####:

My biggest problem with the app is it does not work, I spent an hour trying to figure it out but no matter what I did the app would not start the machine with my laundry. I'm currently waiting for the money I loaded onto the app to be refunded. I tried logging into my account on the circuit website to try and transfer my money to a laundry card but the website says the account I created on the app doesn't exist.

The app is the worst thing ever. A 2 year old could make an app better than this

X70%
by X####:

Would be better if we could also use coins

M70%

Awful, no idea why my university insists on using this godawful app. This app never works, doesnt let you wash your clothes and constantly crashing!!!

X70%
by X####:

Astonishingly bad. Never had a single use without a crash or without paypal being unable to credit funds to my account. Why does circuit insist on removing the ability to use pound coins and change and then replace it with a system that renders me unable to dry my wet clothes because the app insists I have run out of money. The app is also completely unable to reliably read barcodes which forces me to manually type in a completely cryptic code that keeps dissapearing every 5 seconds. Apalling and in need of immediate replacement.

X70%
by X####:

App is shockingly bad, service the first time round was shocking as the machine took double money away they said it didn't, so I thought it might have just been my mistake. Now today its taken £2.40 twice again. I will email them and see what they have to say this time. Never using their services again ill just hand wash from now on.

X70%
by X####:

Best user unfriendly app ever..had to make 2 different accounts and apparently there is no "i forgot my password" option in this app. Changed my passwords in the website but still doesn't work..

X70%
by X####:

On the exceptionally rare occasions that the app functions properly, you may be able to put a wash on. However, on that rare occasion it's highly likely that you'll be double charged or the machine won't work.

X70%
by X####:

My university used to have coin operated machines. I might have to post washing home at this rate. Application wont let me log in. "Smart washingmachines" are a mistake. I hate you circuit.

X70%
by X####:

My university insists on using a dystopian does-everything ID card for every single function from paying for the gym, buying coffee, and loaning books, but insists on using Circuit - as others have said, the most horrible app in the world.

I don't understand why people hate it.It does exactly what it says.

Y70%

Nearly everytime I use it the machines won't work now it's not letting me top up and I can't do laundry. Its annoying how this is the only app you can use and the company doesn't care enough to fix the problems

X70%
by X####:

I had a few pounds in my account leftover from moving out. I gave them my details for a refund that they never gave and deleted my remaining balance... that and this app never works right anyways.

X70%
by X####:

Every time i went to use a washing machine i would go through the steps and it would suddenly say the machine is pending and the machine was doing nothing. So annoying couldn't do my washing

X70%
by X####:

QR code scanner doesn't work, app lags and only works on 4G...ended up me going out of the laundry room 3 times to make it work

N70%
by N####:

This app is very poor, does not connect to the machines and runs so slowly that my phone locked between screens.

A70%
by A####:

Ball Ache. Takes a good 5-10 minutes to add funds (if you don't have paypal). Forgot my password and coudlt reset it.

X70%
by X####:

The app is full of bugs. Hardly works. Doesn't focus on qr codes. Not worth it honestly just pay for a card.

G70%
by G####:

I hate that my accommodation means this app is compulsory!! Not only is laundry ridiculously expensive, the app crashes all the time and is not particularly user-friendly. 0/5 if I could

G70%
by G####:

I suggest the app should not only show the remaining time but should also alarm and notify the user once the machine is completed because we wait so long to take turns in cutty sark halls and users don't take out their clothes. I just realized my machine still left 20 mins but in the app ahowing done Thank you

T70%
by T####:

You have to top up at £5 of which I never use half of and when I come to use it again it has vanished

P70%
by P####:

Whilst I can use this application to pay for my laundry, doing so is far from pleasant: Payments are frequently rejected. The payment system is much longer and cumbersome than simply counting coins. The time estimate is worthless, as it frequently starts at ridiculously short intervals, like 120 seconds! EDIT: After using the app for a number of weeks, I am revising my review DOWN, to 1/5. Reasons include: Frequent crashes. Multiple instances of the application refusing to communicate with the machines to start a cycle, despite clearly communicating with the server as the machines enter an 'In-use' state that disallows further attempts. (Maybe you could have the devices do a 'hand-shake' or something to check that a request has reached the machine? It's only something that I learned to do in my second year of comp sci, so I think your professional programmers can handle it.) Multiple instances of a drier cycle claiming to start, only for me to come back to wet clothes. Absolutely no feedback to the user when something goes wrong. In conclusion: Circuit wanted to do the 'internet of things', but didn't want to spend the money to hire programmers competent enough to implement it.

The washing machine worked, but then the dryer didn't. When I called up to ask for help they gave me bs about the network being down and hung up on me.
