About Procrastination Punisher

Is procrastination on your phone a problem for you? "Just 5 more minutes of Angry Birds" and the workday is over and your boss is angry? In the evening you say "Yes, honey, I will do the dishes", then start answering emails to make up for your wasted workday, and a quick 3 hours later, your marriage goes to pieces and you lose custody of the dog? Well, there's a way to avoid that now. Procrastination Punisher can save your career and marriage or, if you're really determined, at least help you help somebody else.

Procrastination Punisher lets you disable certain apps for certain time frames, for example Angry Birds on workdays from 9 to 5, or your business email app on evenings and weekends. And because, sometimes, you need to be a rebel and break the rules, Procrastination Punisher gives you the option to do just that ... but you will have to pay for it! Specifically, you will have to donate an amount you yourself can specify per app to a charity of your choice. Still playing Angry Birds during work hours? $0.99 to the Red Cross, thank you very much. "I may not have done the dishes, honey, but I did donate a dollar to UNICEF." Who could be angry at such a kind and generous person as yourself?

Give Procrastination Punisher a try and increase your productivity and/or the good you do to the world! You will be happy you did!

Please note: Because each charity uses a different donation processing solution (e.g. PayPal, Moneybookers, custom credit card payments), it would be impossible to integrate all of them in this app. This is why donations are processed through the developer of this app, and forwarded to charities each quarter to save on processing fees and to maximize the value of your donation. You may request a copy of the payment-receipts for the payments made to charities from support@greatbytes.org. A 5% processing fee is assessed to cover bank wire transfer and credit card payment fees.

Permissions:
READ_LOGS & WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE: The app has an option to send an error log to the developer, in case you discover a bug or the app crashes. This log is temporarily stored on the SD-card before being sent.

INTERNET & ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE: The app has an option to collect anonymous usage statistics (deactivated by default!) to improve it in future versions. You explicitly have to opt in to this, and the collected data won't be used for anything else than improving the app.

BILLING: For processing the donation via Google Play (if you choose to start a blocked app).

GET_TASKS: To find out when a blocked app is being launched.

RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: If enabled, the app auto-starts after boot.

I'm afraid it's not working for me. It never asked me to put in my credit card and it doesn't actually block the apps. Unless I've done something wrong, it's entirely placebo.

I second the suggestion made earlier by another user: we want attach more than one time profile to an app, or to put it differently, we want our apps to be blocked for more than one period each day, e.g., from 8 to 11am and from 2 to 5pm. Thanks!

by Z####:

The app is easy to install, program and understand. It would be very helpful if I could program it to block apps for multiple time periods. It is easy enough to change the settings in between these usage times, but doing that reminds me of how easy it is to change the time period or completely disable the punishment feature in order to use my "bad" apps. My least favorite part of this app that I am still getting notifications from my blocked apps.Notifications should be blocked as well to reduce temptation.

One improvement would make this a 5 star app. For those that really suffer with Procrastination, I would like to see a a randomly generated 64 character word being generated. The user would then have to type that in to get into the app, a bit like how leech block works

Y70%
by Y####:

Would like to attach more than one time profile to each app; if this happens I would give five stars. Currently it is good, but that would make it great.

Y70%

This is a brilliant app and would be perfect if you could actually use the app on itself. It is too easy to disable.

Y70%

The app often can't find the installed application when you're trying to add one. If you can fix this, then this it's a 5 star app!

A great app! Hope I can choose multiple apps at one time, and make the same rule. Picking a single app then deciding the rule for over 40 times almost drove me mad.

The disable button renders the app pointless. If I don't want to pay... No problem just disable the app.

R70%

I would love more if you could block the app itself. It's too easy to turn it off.

Y70%

I loved it but I wish there was more timing option for selected applications and much more costly would be better I guess ;-)

R70%

Programming this app was unbelievably clunky. It doesn't let you say, "Block this app during the following three time slots," or "Block apps X, Y & Z between 2 and 4 pm." No, each app and each time period must be entered separately. After spending far too long doing this, I tested the thing and discovered it didn't even bloody work. I don't know why, but wasn't willing to spend yet more time finding out. Uninstalled!

I like this app as I am basically glued to my smartphone when I should be working on weekdays. Some of my apps are HUGE distractions and I like the ability to stop myself. Please please please create the option of assigning multiple time periods to multiple apps! It would be a really useful feature!
