About Keyboard Swap for Tasker

** Requires Tasker (or Locale), Root AND Read/Write permissions on the /system partition **

Have a keyboard that you like for one app but not another? This app is actually a plugin for Tasker or Locale that, when triggered, will set your software keyboard to the selected input method.

Essentially, if you have a keyboard you like for sending texts, another for browsing the net and a third for something more complex like ConnectBot, one can setup profiles that detect those apps and change the keyboard to your favorite.

Alternatively, one could switch between two keyboards depending on the screen orientation, the time of day, or anything else that Tasker can detect.

This functionality is available (and works) in Secure Settings in the System+ module. I think that also requires root, but certainly not r/w system partition.

Love this plugin for Tasker. Works exactly the way I expected it to and how the Dev said it would.

C70%

Takes about 10 seconds to switch the keyboards for me, causing some difficulty. Developer was fast to respond though.

Because it doesn't recognise root on newer devices. Very disappointing that it is listed as being compatible with newer devices.

Works perfectly fine on my Galaxy Nexus. I use it to swap to Hacker's Keyboard for GMote and SwiftKey 3 beta for anything else. Thanks for the plugin :).

Good apps

Great idea and I need for unrooted. It was my fault , buying this app, and I realized it immediately, but my device never showed the REFUND button. I understand, $0.99 is not much to spend, and when an app is useless to a person , it would be great to receive a refund. I will contact the Dev for refund.

Sine this no longer works and the dev stopped updating, I recommend using Secure Settings with Tasker instead.

Z70%

Doesn't work anymore apparently

M70%

thanks to this plugin my phone switches to null keyboard the moment I connect my nintendo Bluetooth keyboard, and back to swype when it disconnects. I hope tasker's events will be improved so someday I can make it work with any keyboard(usb/bt known/unknown)

This application does exactly what I need it to (switching to Hackers Keyboard any time I'm using connectbot.) Unfortunately it stopped working when I moved to CyanogenMod 10.2 nightlies (AOSP 4.3). I don't know if this is specific to CM or Android. Reported it to the author via Reddit 2 weeks ago, but no response so far. I will update this review when an update is released.

Just what I needed for my Asus Transformer, Love to be able to switch back to the Asus keyboard automatically when I connect the keyboard. Thanks so much.

Took me a while to figure out how to use it. I've got it now and it works perfectly.

App is now useless. NOT COMPATIBLE with Android 4.3+. Developer refuses to respond to emails. No support. Installer fails to write necessary files to system folder. Doesn't see system mounted as r/w, even though it is. FIX IT, OR AT LEAST REPLY TO EMAILS!

M70%
by M####:

Phone is rooted, S-OFF and system/app partition is r/w. I went a long way trying to get this to work but now it seems the app is deprecated. Dev should at least remove it from the play store if he doesn't feel like updating it. Just found out that the app called "secure settings" actually does what this one only promises. Thought I'd let people know.

on galaxy note (sgh i717) using android 2.3.6 and this is really useful given the multitude of awesome keyboards out there. this (using tasker) allows me to always utilize the most useful one depending on the situation - completely automatically. thanks and great work!

Fails on read/write access remounting system/app and cant seem to fix it. Refund button has disappeared as well.

X70%

amazing! Now Tasker will switch to the big, tap-style HTC keyboard when the phone enters car mode, and back to Slide IT on exit!

X70%
by X####:

Does exactly what it says on the tin, and makes a great extension to Tasker. I have a phone with a hardware keyboard, and while I like SwiftKey X as my soft keyboard, it tries to add auto-capitalization, auto-spacing, and predictions into my hardware keyboard. I just used this plugin and set up a "Keyboard Out" trigger to switch SwiftKey on and off with no trouble at all.

X70%
by X####:

Tried it on PA, granted root, install failed with "can't remount partition as rw".

X70%
by X####:

Nice that this guy made this plugin in 2011 and people are still using it. Still works fine with the newest tasker and 4.2.2 jellybean. Aosp keyboard for portrait and thumb keyboard for landscape. Perfect.

X70%
by X####:

I use splashtop and SwiftKey where SwiftKey tries to autocorrect my password when trying to enter it on my mac when in splashtop. Using tasker and this app I can switch to the stock keyboard and back automatically. Considering the apps age it just works.

I70%
by I####:

I've set Tasker to switch to Hacker Keyboard when landscape and back to Swype when portrait.

Everything promissed. No time for switching. Exactly what I've always searched for!
