GPS Benchmark app quickly benchmarks the accuracy of GPS and network-based positioning technologies within a mobile device. GPS Benchmark is a quality-control tool for mobile location providers, including:

GPS Benchmark is the ONLY app on Google Play to compare a ground truth location (provided by the user) against the phone's location data to calculate the true error of the positioning system. Other apps can only show the estimated location error that is calculated by the device, which (as GPS Benchmark shows) can be far from accurate.
GPS Benchmark allows the user to quickly provide a ground truth location by tapping on the map, scanning a geo-encoded NFC tag or QR Code, or manually entering a latitude/longitude/altitude.

The ground truth location of the mobile device is set by tapping on a satellite map (or manually entering lat/long/alt). The app then measures the error of positions calculated by the phone, generates various statistics on these errors (e.g., min/max/avg horizontal and vertical error, percentiles, etc.) and attaches the results (printout, CSV and KML files) to an email. My phone does not have a "menu" button or a "multitasking" button as such, only a home button. So the app is simply unusable. Why can't build in some screen-triggered mechanism to call up the menu like almost all other apps.

When you open it for the first time, you have a choice of what you want to test but after that your stuffed because you no longer have a menu, cannot even close the app, the only way is to uninstall, ,paul

Best app found to robustly test GPS accuracies for Android devices. Full statistics included with output report and CEP/1,2 sigma range KMZ circles created as a bonus for reporting. A good app made by someone versed in GPS and more importantly, Android GPS.

Back to five star status after NFC update issue. Great app to test gps. Pretty much the best on the android market right now IMO.

App is ok (therefor 4 star) but can't use it on a 3.0" screen (older Pocket Neo), buttons off screen, works good on others 4.0 and up screen sizes.
