GoPro (formerly Capture) for Android
Account to use a camera is ludicrous. I travel around Australia which has a lot of areas without cell service, thinking about logging into this app shouldn't have to be on my to do list before I leave. I don't care about social media things nor do I like the idea of you "collecting data of how I use my device" it's my device I've bought just let me review footage and control my camera.
This app used to be good and you can preview or playback. It wants you to download a video to be able to see. And most of the time it crashes before it finishes. Back when it was capture, you were able yo preview the video cut the part that you wanted and download it. But not anymore. Will be deleting this app soon. Don't waste your time. Just record and upload to ypur computer and view there.
Most clumsy app I ever used. It connects to my gopro then disconnects , reconnects again. Can't playback my 4k videos and fails everytime when I try to download the file. I am not sure why i even spend this much money on a product which compared to my hero5 performs worse and the sluggishness of the software just gets me frustrated. Gopro you guys are lucky not a lot of competition out there for you but at this point i home someone comes with something refined.
Doesn't work. Can't connect to my hero 6 properly. Says it's connected on Sony xz1 compact but not in app neither in hero 6. May work for a few seconds in 1 out of 30 connection attempts. Tried everything.. Not really ok when you buy an expensive new camera like this. Please fix ASAP.
If you use this app to operate your camera under a cell phone tower. ..it will work great once you log on to the app...but if your on top of a mountain snowmobiling. ..in the middle of the ocean fishing....deep in the forest hunting and try to log on to use the app without cell service it will not work! Will someone from Gopro please read the 40,000 + negative feedbacks and go back to the old app! And or fix this problem or reemburse me for my 3 cameras I own!!!!!
Love the camera, but this app at times wont connect with the my gopro even though the camera beeps to idecate its connected. Its as if the feed doesn't make it through. Its very rare, but i use this app EVERY DAY. And every once and awhile the app stops working and i have re download the app. Plaese fix
Latest update and another failure....now it will not play the recordings through my Samsung phone. Says it needs to be downloaded and then says it cannot be downloaded... WHAT!!!.....Cannot login to use my camera thanks the latest update. Anyone want to buy it? I will be buying a cheaper camera from a more enlightened supplier. One who does not seem intent in pxxxxxg off its customers! Shame really as I was going to buy another one
This App is absolutely useless. It will not connect to my camera despite continuous attempts. Cannot believe I've spent this much money on a camera to only be able to watch the videos on a tiny little screen. Pointless waste of time and money.
FOR SHAME, GOPRO. What a wasteful bloated program. If you love your go pro (which I do) for its ease of use, this app provides the opposite experience. But it looks so pretty! Any good reviews are for an older version, so it's misleading as well. Like food poisoning for your phone
Requires login and online connection before any functions work. Pointless and useless bloat to a minimal app. I only need to connect to my camera and take photos. Not look my social media accounts. Any I don't always have internet access. F- design.
Hero6 connected once, now it says it connects sometimes, but my Pixel 2 never does connect. The one time is did connect I only looked at the cameras image on the phone for a few seconds; it was a bit delayed and skipped.
Are you nuts ?? If millions of bad feedback is not enough here is another one. GIVE USERS OPTION TO SKIP ONLINE LOG IN. Installed all in home to find at holiday destination window to log in.
GoPro is a great little device. But the controller app sucks. Slow to connect and doesn't handle multitasking well, and why does it notify me once a month to log back in? If I had another way to control my GoPro I'd uninstall this.
The gopro and the app don't connect properly. You can work the camera remotley, but when trying to update or transfer photo's the connection seems glitchy and often disconnects. Definitely needs some work!
GoPro continues to focus on stuff that does NOT matter - like building pure editing software, and forgetting that all starts with connection to camera. And connectivity remains broken as the years fly by. Spinning! Add really bad decisions like removing ability to name cameras - Embarrassing!
Well.....used to be a good app until I used it to update my gopro, AND THEN IT DISCONNECTED HALFWAY. if you're going to allow the camera to be updated through your app, you better be 110% sure the connection will not be lost because...my gopro is now screwed and frozen. Come on GoPro, congrats on this one. All that aside, really handy app, you night have a different experience than me!
Is it hard to make YOUR app connect to YOUR device without a problem for the user. App and firmware updates make situation even worse. I would recommend to buy any cheap action camera rather than GoPro. UPD: your fault. After downgrade firmware it works. Very bad customer experience and service. No info about downgrade. And silly advice to stay with the latest update.
I have a GoPro Hero 4 and everytime I try to connect have to reset WiFi settings and forget GoPro network on my mobile and sometimes it still doesn't work! Really looking forward to a better release because I already tired to use it in that way...
Worst app ever I can't connect session5 to either 3 mobiles iPhone7, MI Max & Samsung s3. I m very disappointed from gopro company. The steps that gopro suggested does NOT resolve the problem. I asked lot of people have the same problem. Instand of give wrong help instructions try to FIX the app. For users with sessions camera is NOT acceptable, they can't use their camera. I have tried this in about 5 phones ( iPhone & androids). This app IS NOT USABLE. F I X it asap we can't use our purchased cameras or else give us money back to buy other cameras.
Capture was a handy app but sadly this no version just will not connect to my hero 4 (on a Huawei P9 phone). It sometimes won't work at all if I'm offline, which of course is where all the action is! I've had to go back to taking the card out of the camera and copying the files to my PC. Party like it's 1999!
I don't know what you guys did but I can finally connect my Session 4. TBH I used other sources to get an older version of the app. Installed it, worked fine, deleted it, decided to try if the latest version is ok just to give it a shot. It works, so far. Thank you any way.
Don't waste your time or money on a GoPro. The hardware may be top notch, however these folks have it setup so that you cannot use YOUR equipment without creating an account and signing into app. Good luck with that when you are out exploring and not in cell tower range. Sign in should not be required to control camera. It's just their way to push you into upgrading to one of the pay services/editor they offer and gather information on your phone and usage. How a company thinks this is acceptable (after you've paid them coin for hardware) is beyond me. This should be made painfully obvious PRIOR to purchase. Think I'm alone in this? Be sure to read many Play store reviews... filter them to display newest.
Necessary account creation to control a camera? You've lost your damn mind, GoPro. I don't need an account to use my $1k Canon, and you certainly don't need my personal information to use a CAMERA. Also, everything I record (especially at risk of bodily harm) should NOT belong to you, as outlined in your Terms of Use.
Go Pro lost me with the requirement to log in to connect with my fleet of Hero 4 and Hero 5. I have been a loyal user and advocate since my first Hero and Hero 2 purchases, but I will start considering other cameras now that Go Pro has betrayed my trust. I understand it is part of their new business model I guess and they must understand my purchase of other software was needed to regain the functionality I lost via their software. This betrayal will likely cost them sales from me and others as we look for innovation and functionality from our equipment and software providers, which Go Pro has clearly replaced with business models and revenue stream optimization. Tsk Tsk Go Pro !
Why do I need an account to control my camera? I have no interest in any online services, but I keep getting ads for things I will never do. Leave me alone, let me control my camera.
I can't connect it to my hero6 on my Samsung 7edge, ive wasted hours looking for online support or recommendations. It doesn't properly connect to the Bluetooth and when trying to connect via WiFi it is sluggish and just connected to the camera but no longer the Internet. Please fix and I'll give it more stars!
Doesn't connect to my GoPro Hero6 easily, as well as previously with Hero5, so stupid, spending nearly $1250 on Hero5 then Hero6 to get this stupid app not working as expected!!!!!!! @tech service, all the settings in the forum was exactly the same on my phone, but wasn't able to connect, eventually I was successfully connected but after many attempts and without even changing any settings!!!! Now I have to make many attempts to connect my cam to the app every time I want to connect as it won't connect easily from the first time. Yes tried them all and still take more than few attempts to connect, very frustrating really, specially with Hero6 takes more than it used to take with Hero5
Only able to connect to this app once. Tried everything to use thus.. Ended up taking out memory card and watching footage on an old phone.. Wouldn't work on android app or i phone.. Very frustrating
This app would be stellar if it would work with secondary sd storage on my phone. It doesn't. Very few phones/ tablets have the internal storage capacity to be able to store gopro videos for editing which makes this app essentially useless for "on the go" editing. If I could import the files to the micro sd on my phone (5 year old technology) and edit from there, then this app would be 5 stars. As is, I use it for nothing and must use my laptop for all editing. Gopro rwally dropped the ball on this. Great idea, but useless for most.
Requiring one to create an account and logging in to handle a piece of equipment that is often used in places where there is not network connectivity is just ludicrous. Yes, after each login you should be able to use the device for 30 days without a login (note the should). But that's not something you want to think about when you're 50km from civilization and want to connect to the camera to check the angle...
Can not use app without creating an account! That sucks! Never used to have to do this. App is now useless!! I just want to remote control my GoPros. I have no use for any of the other features!
Need an account to access. Waste of time so don't bother. S8 requires constant reinstall of app. It also states in the T&C,s that all recordings belong to them. GOPRO HAVE LOST THE PLOT. Do yourself a favour, they may have the name but there are better alternatives on the market now.
Could connect the Gopro Session no problems to my samsung 8. However, it refuses to transer video files of 4 mins or more, will not recognise sharing options and when I direct plugin to the phone cia usb, this app hangs forever and refuses to load at all. Terrible, terrible app given the cost of the cameras and the requirement to pay for a subscription.
What happened to this wonderful app? Where is the download option? Why MUST I sign in to connect with wifibluetooth and why can't I download pictures to my gallery anymore? Why am I forced to share from the app and why is this my ONLY option. Just revert back to Capture and stop killing your customer base, mind-boggling nonsense.
App is so slow it feels like I'm using a computer from the 80's. Unusable and can't find a fix. Friends app works just fine. Google Pixel XL is what I'm using
Recently this started shoving notifications in my face to "remind" me to use my gopro. Even when notifications are disabled in settings. I'll use it when I bloody feel like using it, if this doesn't stop with the next update you've lost a client!
This app will blow your phone up with notifications every 30 mins. Even after force stopping the app, within a day it will be back. I don't use my gopro very often. This is extremely annoying. Strongly considering switching to a different camera brand after this stupid app.
Stupid app. Have spent 5 minute trying to get set up with a myriad of different VALID email addresses and it won't accept any of them... Useless.
Unable to connect Hero5 Session with my Huawei Mate 10 Pro as the "chose camera" list is empty. Tried with my Mate 7 and the list is there but still unable to connect. GoPro you need to release an update please.... Cameras are great, but the apps and support are poor... Please up your game.

It is OK. If they hire a good designer, it could be way better. UI not clear enough, especially on connection. If WiFi is much slower, then Bluetooth should be the default. The worst of all, the app flood your phone with notifications. It helps you to aim better to do a good Selfie photo though. Again, the app needs to be totally redesigned.
