Great for blocking internet access for apps that call up ads or transfer data. Like an app but not the permissions? Worried about updates that may send you over your data allowance? If it doesn't require internet access to function, Droidwall will cut it off for you, just like your device was in flight mode. Easy to set up, and you can default all apps to on or off by default.

Had to find a firewall app once Avast removed their top notch firewall from mobile security. Came across this firewall and I'm glad I did. Easy to use, straight forward, and just good all around. Make sure to change the list to "blacklist" instead of "whitelist" for ease of use (just press the bar at the top that says "whitelist" which is the default mode). Thanks dev! Great job.

Q70%
by Q####:

I use dolphin browser and it does not show up within the list. Therefore I cannot use a browser at all since it's blocked unless I uninstall this app or whitelist everything. Please fix for 5 stars! EDIT: After some tinkering I got it to show. Other than that one detail I experienced this is an excellent app and I can easily see how it could help with limited data plans. Keep up the good work!

You're featured on a 2013/2014 "Must-Have, Best Apps for Root Users" on XDA, first result in a google search for "Best Root Apps", but nothings changed in 3 years! (as seen by the "WiFi or 3G" checkboxes)! Take advantage of its success to fix/update/improve it, not let it sit on its success until it dies. For what it DOES do, it does it well, but much has changed in the world of Android in 3 years that supersedes this App.

Update 6/6/2013 It's not working on my Xperia S (Pre-rooted Build 6.2.B.0.200). Was working fine on ICS(build 6.1.A.2.45). When the white list is enabled, i've to choose Any application to use wifi. if not it won't let me use wifi even though the particular app is selected to use the wifi. Just awesome app.... Worked great on Xperia arc, galaxy s2. But does not seems to work on galaxy nexus (ics 4.04) stock rom :(

Not only can it prevent data overages, saving you money, not only can it extend your battery life, but it's a vital security tool that every Android device needs, whether their owners realize it or not. I'm not sure if this is the best firewall for Android, it's the only one I've tried, but it's also the only one I've needed. ********** Update: This app has ceased being updated since the author sold the code to Avast. You should now consider either installing the Avast app or installing another firewall app. **********

Know how awesome this is? I'm going to say something I've never said before: This should come standard on every Android phone. That's right. This is a very important security tool. Why? Well, why does the person that makes livewallpaper want internet access? What about a non-online game? We have countless apps on our phones that have "questionable permissions" and we would be a much secure place if this app came standard on every phone. Review of App: Please make the option to automatically select all so we can choose what apps we don't want to have internet access instead of having to go through and select which apps can have internet access. Other than that, perfect app.

Good app but nothing special here. Many others do the same thing. However, blocking SPECIFIC Ipv6 addresses would be something Unique which is the functionality I was originally looking for. Sorry but if you are going to say anything about iptables, you need to have functionality to be able to add single IP addresses into the iptables. This blocks the entire app, which is not what I am looking for. Thanks anyway.

I don't get any error when I apply the rules. But, any app that is supposed to block an app from text messaging/using my cellular data functions as well as wifi ..the data still goes through. I'm rooted with King root. Please fix this. )= thanks.

Got a galaxy s4 running cyanogenmod 12.1, whenever the firewall is active, none of the apps I have on the white list can access the net, tried chrome, google play store, android browser. Even when I tick the (any application) box!

S70%
by S####:

Loved this app on the S4, so added it to rooted s5 neo. Unfortunately there's no menu function for the s5 neo (the long press only activates split screen functionality), therefore no way to switch the firewall on. Have to look elsewhere.

R70%

Gave it two stars as it is great for older phones but with 4G being the Top Dog, you lose 3 Stars for not being able to block that currently! Please update so I can come back!

X70%
by X####:

This app is straightforward and easy to use and does it's job well. A negative review claims that that it uses a whitelist format with nothing selected- all you need to do is tap 'whitelist mode' and it switches to blacklist mode, simple!

Really good app - have been using it every since I got my i9000 however, have just moved over to ICS and it does not work at all. Error code 2... Would appreciate a fix for this!

This is really annoying. This app doesn't block all apps. I'm not an android developer, so I don't really know how exactly these apps are accessing the Internet. (I know that you can create and control a hidden ie window on Windows, maybe you can do sth similar on android? That could explain the problems.) If someone knows anything, contact me please: t-v.k@gmx.de :)

Thank u. Thank u. And forever thank you. This app is a necessity. It is ridiculous that mobile companies make us have to root our phones just to get access to basic functionality, like a firewall. This wall is amazing, a million thanks to the developers!!!!

Q70%
by Q####:

I had high hopes for this app but it is unusable on Cyanogen. Whitelisting reduces data transfer speeds to 1/15th their normal rates. The app does block nicely, but this performance hit is completely unacceptable. Sadly and disappointingly, I must uninstall.

Q70%
by Q####:

No need for any more details other than these: it's easy to configure, light on the RAM, and highly effective. Only on occasion will it cause issues streaming videos. Highly recommended for rooted users!

X70%
by X####:

Only thing I would change is I wish I could set wifi to blacklist mode and mobile to whitelist mode as there are far more I wish to allow use the wifi connection than the mobile connection. Currently have it in whitelist mode with "All applications" marked for wifi and a select group for mobile, which isn't ideal as there are a couple things I'd block from wifi too but would end up taking way too long to set it as I would like in either mode.

Had this on my i9100 since launch. Saved me huge amounts of data. I want this on my note 3 but it doesn't work. Yes it's rooted, other root apps work, but it says some file cannot be opened when I open the app.

Q70%

whish there where more settings that could be done... iptables is powerful and complex; woulx be nice to have a pro mode to add our own rules, something like a webmin iptables interface woulf be great. Overall though good app to block all the ads traffic that free programs use up.

This's my first app to install after reflashing rom. But i got issue on 4.3.1 after apply the rule my packet data cannot connected please fix it dev. Will be awesome if it work. I give u 4 star. Next 5 star if issue fixed.

Im using this a lot but lately I noticed a strange behaviour .. I've got a working Internet connection, and connecting to a router using wifi. I've got half apps allowed (checked) for accessing wifi in droidwall. But none of them is able to access it, as soon as I enable droidwall logger. After this everything works as expected. Very strange, I'm using this app on many mobile devices, never had this problem before.

This is an essential app for any android user. Once you setup the rules it is totally transparent and doesn't get in the way at all. In fact sometimes i forget about it alltogethor and scratch my heads wondering why a new app i downloaded cannot access the internet .

This really breaks android Jelly Bean devices. I setup for whitelist only and unblocked everything with the exception of a few apps. Now the play store will not work nor will internet browsing and downloads. Before on ICS and back it was the best firewall ever. Please fix this compatibility issue!

Q70%

App works well. Sets individual permissions to registered apps successfully and remain set until changed under root permission. Set app permissions, remain set even after access to root, is set to deny. This app converts successfully into a system app, but still requires root permissions to change firewall settings. Widget does not work when root permission is set to deny, only when granted. Kyocera Hydro 4.0.4 (rooted) of course! Lol ;)

This is a MUST HAVE app for anyone that uses their phone for everything! Mine is a battery eater and a firewall shutting my xtra apps access saves me power. A PC has s firewall written into the OS. It's about time we have one for our "mini PCs". Nice! Running on Moto Triumph w/ CM7.2 g60.

The app works fine, other than the WiFi glitch. Whenever I enable firewall my WiFi stops working. This could be a lollipop glitch.

T70%

I installed this app and was amazed by its capability. I only have 500 mb of data so this helped a lot. However, later it started to hve very inconsistent results, with it working somedays and other days letting all my apps use up my data :(

U70%

For Lollipop you need to allow 1000 (ANT HAL) otherwise the phone will keep dropping wifi and you will have exclamation marks on connection meters. Would have rated 5 stars, but hasn't been updated since 2011.

Save rules ok. But enabling firewall causes error 11

G70%

Im rooted SIII this is the only firewall I found that can stop system apps from connecting to data sources. Huge side effect... games not allowed to connect have no ads in or on them lol. I dont allow any games to connect and those that have to connect to work I uninstall.

Location does not work in white list mode even when all the default services are selected for internet access. Other than this, Works perfectly well as per the description.

For some reason interfering with Tethering when blocking all but whitelist... Otherwise great. Fix for 5 stars.

There was a period of a couple of years that I would recommend nothing other than this apputility, however see,s like goes on and a free open-source firewall just doesnt py the bills I suppose. PLEASE FIX THOUGH! Maybe add new VPN routing boxes if you are able as well! Thanks for your work on bringing this app to the communiyt! Regards!

Great app for a free one. Takes a minute to get used to it. For those experiencing connection issues after enabling, try to switch on Log as well in settings. Solved it for me. No clue y but it did :)

Very good interface. The whitelist mode is excellent. PROBLEMS: No option to control the rules manually makes it a pain to allow services that listen on the device.

Q70%

Amazing app, simple and reliable. Deserves six stars. Blocking permissions for some apps cause system instability, titanium backup for instance. You wouldn't think this backup app would require network access but blocking it on my Mytouch slide caused it to force close...

I love being able to restrict everything I want from sending my info all over the place! I would pay $100.00 for this if I had to.
