Cardboard for Android
It's a cool idea. But I feel like I'm looking at a world in tunnel vision. Or like I'm looking at an elephant with binoculars at point blank to try and admire it's beauty. I can see it, but only in sections. It just doesn't give that full immersion wrap around feeling that other virtual reality systems give you. I would really like to see something like a 3D phone, sort of the way Nintendo did the 3DS with an inward 3D view. That would be wicked cool. But I do love the direction this tech is heading in.
I liked it at first, but I find the screen to be too bright and there is no way to change this. My eyes tire quickly and I have to stop after a few minutes. Also, my phone heats up and the battery drains at an alarming rate. I might change my rating if the app is fixed. After all, it is still the best VR experience at this price point. Well, the only VR platform at this price point, actually.
Will not work with the Samsung Galaxy S8+. You have to buy a separate VR viewer if you already own something other than a Google Cardboard viewer. The Google Cardboard app is a waste of space. You have to download a boatload of other apps that may or may not work, mostly they don't work. The box is cumbersome and you have to hold it all the time. Don't do it.
I'm using mi vr, there are many problems, also google vr play not play all video files. Not properly work with redmi note 4. Please don't purchase it from mi website, because mi giving very very costly, also always keep it in hand, because no any clips for my head
AMAZING!!! OK so first I bought a cardboard thingy from the Seattle space needle gift shop that was exclusively for space needle 360°, but I searched vr games, and I found this!!! I have downloaded alot of games that support this, and they are amazing too, but I mostly like the Google vr maps in the demos. I soon went to a Verizon store with my parents and got a FREE viewer!!!! thanks for your amazing tech and PLEASE KEEP MAKING VR APPS!!!! UPDATE: the new arctic journey is BEAUTIFUL, it almost made me cry.
I have a galaxy S6, when you use the magnetic button, it goes crazy & as if button being constantly pressed. Would love to use it but no wsy to select currently. The manic button presses also happens with a Bluetooth controller. I've given up waiting for a fix.
Will not work for Vr sets without side magnet button....unlike others Vr apps that allow auto trigger by looking at a action/choice option for 5 seconds. Tilt also don't seem to work, again unlike my other vr apps. I have sent off for a Bluetooth controller in the meantime.
Remote is nearly useless with this app. The only buttons that work are the button that allegedly plays music from a different app, and the other closes this app. I also have volume controls. The app is extremely hard to use when you don't have a SELECT button. Makes the demos unusable.
This app expects to do a set up of VR gadget by scanning a special barcode. Most modern VR goggles do not come with one. Most people also use wireless keyboard to control their VR games - there are no settings for keyboard in this app. What a useless experiment.
VR of this kind for the masses is in its infancy, but this is more fun than I thought it would be. That is until something happened to my Nexus 5X that resulted in a counter clockwise skew of 7 degrees in any VR app. And Google has no options to fix that. So now I'm expected to replace or purchase a new phone to fix an issue that could easily be rectified in software. Very upset with this.
Poor integration of the UI. Very poor sensor calibration. The required code bar is annoying as not all devices have one. The lack of a calibration setting is disturbing as well. I've seen some other applications that work very smooth so there is clearly not a hardware issue and a software issue, as sometimes the image just jumps in order to compensate for the poor calibration. Very disappointing google.
Some recent update seems to have required the setup to require a button to interact with items on the screen when before you could stare at the Target and select it. It ruins the experience all together. Not sure why cardboard is no longer compatible with a cardboard viewer. Makes no sense.
Does not work on my galaxy S7. Followed the instructions and scanned QR code etc but experience is dreadful with Double Vision (DV not VR lol). Tried Samsung VR goggles and they are awesome. Don't waste your money on these if you have a S7.
Cant configure properly. device not compatible. keeps telling me to turn my phone the wrong way. my device isnt in the list of devices and doesnt have a cardboard qr code. fix it so i can use my device thanks. manufacturer is pizza and doesnt have device info on website. developer is pizza because all my stuff is upside down and i cant change it. its auto locked to rotate one way. All I want is for you to free rotation so i can use my device plz, thanks. I have found every device qr code in database and all are not compatible with my device
The app is great, but I can't use it at night because the screen automatically gets incredibly bright. I understand why and all, but it really needs an option to turn that off because it's too bright for use at night. Not all phones will have that issue, but my Nexus 6 gets painfully bright.
So frustrating that this has no provision for either gaze or controllers to interact. The headset configuration 'knows' I have no magnet/screen pusher and yet all the built-in demos will wait forever for such while ignoring gaze and Bluetooth controller presses. Why ignore some of the major ways people are interacting with Cardboard apps? I expect a bit more from first party apps.
Worst app for lenovo k4 note. It's not working very well. I'm waste my time & money. Plz fix this. And give me solutions as soon as fast.g oogle team where are you please give me answers.
It's a somewhat ok app... But why doesn't a cardboard app have VR functionality... not even tilted/horizontal view support? Support for this is drastically needed. Then we can start addressing controller support, and other features.
Im using an lg g3 but for some reason, it keeps spinning everytime i use a cardboard app and wont stay still please fix it, if u fix it ill give it a 4 or 5
I dont have a head set with a magnet or other controls...I thought I could buy a bluetooth controller to bypass this but since there seems to be no support or customization in the app to accommodate... my controller can either select the back button or the settings button so the experience of use is me repeatedly removing my phone, pressing on the screen to indicate a choice, putting it back on my face....so the experience lacks immersion :/ willing to rate higher when better controls implemented
I would really like to give this a 5 star rating, but it needs one more feature. It needs to be easily controlled with a Bluetooth remote or gamepad. Not all viewers have the magnet functionality, and sometimes even that isn't very reliable. Having the ability to navigate menus, calibrate, etc with a controller would increase the functionality drastically. Then you could easily transition to watching movies, playing games, etc.
When I installed first time on my Lenovo Vibe K4 Note it's fine but after some time app not working and crash so I uninstall and reinstall than it is not open/working only main black screen appear and asking Let's get you set up Are you using a cardboard V1 viewer? And no any touch effect and than crash. Please solve
Just experimenting so early days. It does hold a lot of promise and after I/O 2016 I've got a lot to look forwards to. A few things could be improved. There's not a lot of literature on how to best use it. You need to fully rotate the headset to go "Back" and not all Bluetooth accessories are of any use at all. As a debut/toe dip it is great fun.
Demo of Arctic journey works but screen automatically rotating and spinning by slowly even we don't want to spin our head. Same problem watching 360dg videos from youtube also. Why it is rotating spinning automatically? Need to FIX This. also playing SBS 3D videos from youtube also working good and perfect 3D effect.(means my VR HEADSET Setting is correct)...but when playing SBS 3D Videos from mobile or SD card, it's not giving 3D effect. Two square screens video playing. Give some controls from erphn rmote
I'm running on kitkat now and having a problem in YouTube when i press the cardboard option the video get destroyed ... And when i press back it's okay but not in cardboard anymore .. So i can't try YouTube in vr :( and when i install lollipop 5.1.1 cardboard app is not supported .. Wow so i have to download those videos and play it from a app called 360vr but i seriously want to use cardboard so please please try to fix this.. Thanks.
The Google cardboard doesn't fit well, the demos are choppy and basic but the fun factor per dollar can't be beat! They can be easily modified to fit better and I added flexible straps to free up my hands. The app works well with few glitches. I have a Samsung s6 edge plus.
So not sure if it's this apps fault or Google streetview app. But the streetview works fine in 360 if I don't have the cardboard on but once n I put it on the app takes me to the Google cardboard Web page for some sort of set up. But ts set up and works fine on youtube and any other app. Haven't been able to find a fix. I wanted the cardboard precisely for streetview but it's the only app it doesn't work on.
None of the apps or videos seem to work at all, the screen just spins. I've Googled how to troubleshoot the issue but no one seems to have an answer. Google needs to add some sort of calibration method that you can manually run or rerun a setup wizard.
I had originally tried this app on my tablet with no knowledge of the cardboard viewer and the fact that my tablet did not have the necessary hardware to sense motion. I can see that some very long and hard work had gone in to the development of this app, and i can tell that some big things are still yet to come!
Device - Redmi 2 Miui 7 The cardboard app worked fine for the first time then after closing and reopening the app it shows black background and the arctic , tour etc demos don't work the app Force Closes. It works fine after clearing the data and using it first time. Then also after reopening the same problem occurs.

My phone get so HOT with in 5 mins.. I'm sad.. I was so looking forward to this.. I've Googled how to keep your phone cooler and nothing works.. I've disabled every app I possibly could the covers off the front of my goggles I don't know what else to do for it but it's just entirely too hot I'm afraid I'm going to damage my phone
One of the most innovative products I have seen in a very long time. The two cardboard units I have tried have actually been of better optical quality than the Mattel unit so higher price isn't always better. I wish the schools in our area were using these to allow kids to tour museums they could never have before. The product potential here is incredible. Very well done Google. The only draw back I have experienced is the amount of data it uses (to be expected) and it does make my phone pretty hot.
I am having some problems with this app. In my phone the icons rotate and so does the screen. It should be static. Playing video does not have pause/ play, stop and other feature like video player has (like vlc). The app also supports less video codec. Please make all necessary changes as soon as possible as they are needed. Thankyou
It would be great if the Samsung gear vr was compatible with cardboard. I just picked it up thinking I would be able to use all of the many apps/games on Google play, just to find out that it isn't supported. If the gear vr was supported, I would rate it 5 star. Please fix.
It pretends to support other headsets, but it requires a magnet button or something to work. Reviewers say you can use a bluetooth controller, but all of the buttons will do one thing: disable cardboard mode. Why the hell would they make a controller button do THAT? My best guess is they want to force us to buy their own headsets. It's really shady, and the 3D sucks anyway. Just get a Vive, if you can afford it.
Was so excited when my cardboard arrived. Excitement quickly turned to total frustration. My phone crashes every time I try to use this app. You would think that with a Google app for a Google phone there would be no problem. Seriously, what the fudge??? Planned on using this in my project based classroom to help increase background knowledge and engagement So disappointed!
Nearly useless because there is no setting within the app to allow for different screen sizes. Viewer parameters are utterly meaningless without including screen size, which needs to be a variable that can be adjusted by the user within the app. Stereoscopic separation is *way* off without it. Idiotic omission.
The only thing missing is the orientation setting. My phone was unable to sense the magnet which located on the left side of the VR, so i have to rotate it 180° to make it able to sense it. But by doing that some features like the "back" motion becomes disabled.

Landscape view, configurable BT controller support, fully adjustable cardboard viewing parameters, gyroscope calibration or better drift compensation (use compass!), UI adjustments such as 'point to select time', rotational multiplier so you don't need to twist your head off, standardise start and end procedure (when the user first puts on or removes their headset), optionally use the accelerometer to determine automatically if the headset has been placed or removed. I could go on!
