Google Duo for Android
Great equivalent to FaceTime that is compatible with both Android AND Apple! And less of a hassle than Skype! I love it so far. Picture quality decreases with poor connection, which is hard when talking with my Granny who lives in the country. Voice works just fine even when the picture cuts out though. I thoroughly enjoy getting to see my family members without having to drive 2 or 3 hours. Works just as well as could be hoped for!
Love the app. Only problem I've got is on the honor 8 you get a notification every 2 seconds about audio issues. If I turn off okgoogle from every app then it temporarily fixes the issue but somehow always manages to creep back. Otherwise its a nice, easy, simple app to use.
This is great, Google doe abfavor though get rid of the circle look it is confusing and irritating to look at. Do I have to put my face In the circle? No so just make it more rectangular it would be easier to understand what the other person is seeing. Thanks beside that it's great!
Love the simplicity, but Google you've got to sort out the audio issues. When two people are talking at the same time the audio cuts out for both people leaving both parties to ask "what?" It's a fundamental flaw with a video chat app and you need to fix it Google. Going to start looking into Discord.
It's a great and very simple video calling app but I have a problem with the fact that I don't get a notification on my smartwatch when I'm getting a call. I like to keep my phone on silent and have my notifications only come to my watch so I miss virtually every call I get. It's frustrating. UPDATE 5/1/17 How is this app still not smartwatch compatible? Coming from Google no less? Unbelievable.
Video quality is the best I've seen: much better than Hangouts and Messenger. Service also degrades more gracefully in the face of network issues. I was worried that having a separate app for video/audio and for chatting would be problematic, but in practice, the simpler UI of Duo and clean separation from chat stuff has been worth it for me.
I used it for the first time today, it was okay but the signal kept going on and off. It shut off completely at one point but I was able to get it back on. The picture quality was another concern it was clear at times and grainy other times shutting off completely. I'll keep trying it maybe some improvements will be made in the future.
App and video calls have been working very well after recent updates.. even on cell data.. I only have one request, and that is to add toggle for phones with a front facing flash.. I was excited to try it with front flash but didn't have the option
Hey Google Inc. None of your products are satisfactory and good. Why don't you learn from individual developers. Such a big company not making good product. SHAME ON GOOGLE. SHAME ON CEO SUNDER PECHAI.
Every time I call someone, I see "trouble reaching person". I have to call people 5 times before their phone even rings. Never had this problem with Hangouts or Skype. I end up sending a Hangouts message to them asking them to call me back. How ironic... Also no tablet/web support is a terrible decision. I keep ending Duo calls and return to Hangouts because the other person switches to a tablet or my phone's tiny battery runs out. Google must learn that "cross-platform" cannot mean Android and iOS PHONES. No web client, no stars. Too loud and voice has very low quality.
I love it!! My husband is in tech school with the Air Force so it's hard not being able to see him everyday! This app allows us to see one another! It works awesome with wifi and 4Glte network!
The quality is definitely better than anything I've seen wish u didn't need internet though but it's a great app. If your reading this you should definitely tell your friends to get it
Appears to work really well. NEED to be able to move the small my view around the screen. A place of my choice instead of being stuck at the bottom. I like the fact that it works whilst using a VPN. I would like the option to use email account or contact number.
It is missing loud speaker feature while ringing. Sometimes we just want to put our phone on our desk while calling someone until they pick up. Besides that, it is a good product, there is definitely a lack of marketing. Google really needs to learn how to do marketing of their product. No matter how good they are, most of the people would no have even heard about their products. Say, for example inbox which is light years ahead of Gmail. Its not very hard to inform the gmail user's to start using their inbox. But google seem just to not care about marketing at all.
Much better now. The first few iterations had terrible connection and lag issues, but the newest version is by far the best. The simple minimalistic interface is probably it's best feature. Thanks Google, another great app.
Im out of town for work about 50 percent of the time, my wife, child and I use this app regularly and it's really reliable. Simple and easy to use as well. Adding group chat would really put it over the top though.. great video app
Excellent reliable video calls, better than Hangouts, WhatsApp and gave up on Skype a long time ago. Still very buggy, just about the only app that reboots my Galaxy S7 ( when I get incoming calls during video chat)
Voice only is awesome. The quality is great. Now you need to integrate voice calls through duo into Android auto please. Hate downgrading back to standard calls when I'm in my vehicle.
Somtimes its hit or miss, there should be way out to intimate called person if the person is not connected by data.the caller just get ring... but purposefull app .5 stars
Great quality! Super easy to use and doesn't require as strong of a signal as a lot of other apps so you can video call even when the internet connection isn't as good.
Well i am in kota...so it feels good to talk to my family far from here.. and thankful to the app..video call was little laggy maybe this is due to network ,overall sound quality and video quality was good enough
Thankfully there is an audio only calls now. Still beats me why 2 applications are needed. Just combine with Allo and have it all in Allo- many ways to say Allo-voice, video, chat. Who wants to use multiple applications when whatsapp can do it all in and all the contacts are already there.
Wonderful application for video calling, but I hate how when I'm on my other phone, tablet, or computer, I still have to use Hangouts to video call. I'd love just a single solution across all my devices hooked up to my account.
It used to work brilliantly on nexus5x. Now it's unusable. Video is choppy and audio cuts out. Please fix it!
App is simple and very easy to use. Call quality is excellent. Design is minimalistic, but very appealing. Would still like an option for group calls and to be able to access Duo through Allo chats and the Google dialer app. Would also like a desktop/web app for Duo.
Great for when I'm working away, which is often. Very simple and the quality is better than I've ever had with facetime. Only used it on WiFi so far so can't comment on 4g quality but hopefully it will work similar.
Works amazing for people with pixels and pixel XL phones or any Android running nougat. My best friends have pixel XL and on wifi connection amazing video quality. Friends with Android device and N not as good but best quality out there.
I tried to use it but when I called someone the voice echoed like crazy and I could heard the words because of the sceeching noice .It's not like the phones were side by side on the call we were worlds apart .The video quality was great but not the audio probably the audio from the speakers reached the microphone of the phone and the echo you should fix this bug in the video call feature other video calling apps don't do this u tried messenger and hangouts and it work fine it it my not on this app
Compared to Hangouts, this app never loses a connection and the video quality is amazing! I used on my android to talk to iPhone users and no interference what so ever! Thank you Google for yet another amazing product!
I used to have Tango and it was terrible! Kept freezing up, the audio was never in sync with the people talking, etc. But this app has been awesome from day one!!
Works well with other Android phones, unfortunately everyone in my household have an IPhone and don't want to download this app because it takes up too much of their space... However it will work fine if IPhone users care to use it.
Randomly falls back to cellular even on strong Wi-Fi. Which never happens on competing video chat apps. "Trouble reaching [insert contact]" when FaceTime works perfectly. Everytime.
Still needs to improve a lot. Hv updated the app with the audio calling feature but even on wifi there is heavy distortion during the call let alone calling on phone data.
I am able to make calls, but we both cannot attend the calls made by each other... While attending, it is keep on loading and itself disconnects it... Pls fix it
The app is great. The quality of the call is very good. However the picture is pixelated yet you can still see the person you are talking with. I guess the clarity of the video call will depend on the signal. yet it was a good call thanks
Seems like a Face time in Google version :) the picture & sound quality was good & stable. But it lacks of integration & call history. It should be integrated with my Phone Book. so I can make a video call directly from my Phone Book. Also can track my history of my video call. But hey, it awesome man. Good Job !!
I'm in France for the summer and this is my main source of communcation with family and friends back home. This is such a great app! I have had no issues with it, and the reception is amazing from thousands of miles away! Thank you Google Duo! A+!!!
Pretty good quality. I picked this app up because FaceTime was too spotty. Google not only does video calling better, the picture quality is much better than FaceTime.
I love it my son lives in Florida I live in Maryland and we just tried it and it was great I enjoyed so much I tried Skype but it was kind of complicated this is much better I love it enjoy it so much. I think the picture quality could be a little better but still it's great, thanks guys

I have only been able to use it a few times so far, but I am really loving it currently. Maybe add a bit more customization type things? I'm not extremely fond of the bubble for the self camera, I would rather see the whole thing so that I know what is actually being shown. I keep it on my face which equates to quite a bit of actual space over my head in a call. Love the quality though!
