Pixel Launcher for Android
The UI change in this update (released 8/18/17) removed the swipe to dismiss function on cards. Now you need to tap tiny buttons multiple times to do the same thing. Also, they changed the main feed to news, and hid the more useful, personal, information (weather, travel time, etc.), behind another button.
Can't move Time / Weather widget. Such a waste of space. If another home screen could be set as default it would cure the issue... I guess since I have paid for Nova Prime it's back to old trustworthy...
The most recent update to the Google now screen has destroyed the ux of the feature. Previously easy to dismiss cards, and proper prioritization has been dumped for no gain. News is now front and center, available at a quick glance (news is never something you need at a quick glance). Stocks, game scores, weather. These are all relegated to hidden depths. What a step backwards.
Really fantastic. I love the smooth app drawer and clean placement of the weather. The circular apps feel clean and modern, and I find the simple long hold for actions more usable than the equivalent force touch on iOS. While learning how the UI worked took a few minutes at first. It really is a pleasure to use. The lack of an icon for the app drawer makes perfect sense and fits the clean no-clutter simplicity of the Pixel devices themselves.
Never seen an update with so many malfunctions. 1. Right swipe Google now is unresponsive. 2. App icons sometimes become blurry. 3. Widget setting sometimes doesn't come out. 4. The launcher appears as a running app in task menu, kind of annoying. 5. Newly installed app doesn't show in app drawer, have to restart phone. Pixel phones are great, this launcher is not.
Not digging the new "Feed". Miss my cards that I can swipe off. Besides that it's a very very very basic launcher. Also newest Pixel 2 style search bar and widget up to is horrendous. Wish you made new design changes optional via a settings switch.
The newest update is horrible. Why would you move the search block up to the very top? Like that's really easy to reach? And no more swipe right to dismiss is a bad decision. Personal cards are also hidden. Is there a way to roll back?
I very happy with launcher. It's clean, fast, snappy experience. Round icon absolutely beautiful. But only thing I missing notification bages. Or pixel dot type notification.. i hope will se in future updates... Thank you.
That little pill thing at the top is laggy with the animations on a brand new Pixel phone. Don't believe me? Set the animation speed to 0.5x in Developer Options. It's really annoying
Weather widget doesn't really bother me but it would be nice to have notification badges for applications while using this launcher. Currently I am using Nova launcher prime with Tesla unread for notification badges. I'm giving pixels a shot, always been an Android user and liked seeing notification badges on apps on all my other phones and was surprised when I noticed that notifications are only available in the drop down menu from the top of the screen.
New feed useless. Previous feed moved under one inaccessible (top right corner, try it one handed on the Pixel XL...) tap away. I could access all my interesting info with a simple swipe before, now it's hidden. To top it off, the new feed is duplicated under the Google app, but with a slightly different interface...
I thought you fixed the "weather" problem. My clock lost its weather function from one day to the next (just got my phone a few days ago!) and I've tried all the suggested fixes I could find, including reinstalling the launcher update, and it's still gone! So irritating. I loved my Samsung weather widget! And at least if that disappeared (hey, no brand is perfect) I could easily get it back!
The inability to remove (or even move) the weather and date widget is driving me insane. The Google search widget, too. Sure, I'm a little neurotic, but given that everything else is fairly customizable this seems like a weird design choice to force upon the user. I just want a simple clock at the top of my screen, and I want that clock to take me to my alarms when I click on it.
Now I remember why I didn't like this launcher. Everything is great about it except one huge flaw, they force you to use their weather app by making it permanent on the screen. You can't move the Google search or Google weather widget. Just permanently at the top of your home screen. That's a problem for me because I have a purchased weather app I like to use. If they took away this flaw even just make it so you can move it to a different screen, then this app would be a great launcher.
Overall I like it. However, along with many other people, I would like the ability to delete the weather widget on the home page. I hate having it and it bothers me that I can't change it at all!
Horrible update makes this launcher the worst. All your info is now at the bottom of the feed or on another tab. Instead you just get "news" that Google decided to give you.
I much prefer the old Google now with all my personal data with one swipe. Now I have to swipe and click a tiny button to get to my appointments and info. All this shows is need that I don't want. I have gone so far as to click "not interested in need from this source" on every story so as to remove the news feed. It is almost working, now I only get one or two stories when I open it up. Garbage. How do I get the old Google now app back?
With the recent update they messed up Google now by removing feature to delete cards with a swipe. What needed one touch now needs three touches to delete
Love the overall design and visual layout of the whole thing. So happy that Google decided to keep the g pill and not revert back to the rather intrusive annoying space wasting search bar
Latest update sucks. Can't swipe cards. My main interests are hidden (e.g.comute time) behind another button. Sad! I have now uninstalled the update. Loving the old version.
Latest change completely ruined it. No more swiping away cards when you are done. Have to go through hoops to clear any story. Not worth the hassle. Really poor design decision.
It's Great but it lacks some features like dark theme (or generally color customization) and icon pack support (so you can make every app icon look pixel style). If you want the same experience with additional features get Nova launcher prime guys (now supports google feed on swipe), if not so sensitive about all that, its the best.
This was a much better launcher before they buried all the useful Google Now cards. You used to be able to swipe to the left to see travel times, your current calendar events, where you last parked, things you've ordered online, etc. Now you have to open the Google app if you want to see any of that and they replaced it with random news stories. And even if you dismiss them, they come back after a couple of hours. So basically that tab is just a bunch of annoying clutter now and there's no way to change it. Makes my experience with the Pixel feel a whole lot less personal. The only solution now is to find the sdk for an old version online. Hopefully it doesn't have any viruses...
I'm coming from a Windows Phone and found this launcher quite lacking, especially since there are no badges on app icons for new notifications and unread messages. It seems like a basic missing feature after coming from Windows! Also the search bar at the top couldn't be removed and took up too much space. I switched to another launcher (SquaresHome 2) which doesn't have these problems.
It's okay I don't like the fact that you cannot swipe right to clear the stories. We need to be able to swipe right like the old version to clear the stories having to click the menu button and click done with this story is time consuming. Time consuming you cannot look at your to-do list your things in one page, one f****** page one f****** page now you have to use multiple Pages which is an efficient for a mobile device a desktop great a phone not so much sometimes I don't even want to read the news I just want to see my personal thing and you have to click twice a button hear a but in there it's inefficient
I have to install it via recovery to get the swipe left for Google assistant to work on my non Nexus device, but otherwise it's awesome. I think Google needs to invest in their assistant page as the cards aren't all that relevant
This launcher has become I tiresome eye sore for me it's constantly crashing I've cleared data and cache for it but less than I day later it's crashing over and over even updates don't help each time I've updated it just continues to crash so I've had switch off to Google launcher if issue gets fixed I'd gladly go back till that happens Google launcher what I'll use
Sometimes I don't want the launcher to move my apps around so much. Although, Its just getting use to it. Is it better for my own good?? Don't know yet!
I've switched from a third party launcher to the Pixel launcher, and am generally pretty happy with it. A few additions would make it perfect. Firstly, the ability to hide app icons from the drawer would be useful for reducing clutter. Support for folders in the app drawer would also be great. Also, if the time could be added to the bar at the top of the home screen (where the date and weather are displayed), which opens clock settings when tapped, it would save even more screen space.
Placing the weather widget in corner like it does and making it unremovable is the worst. The whole top of the screen is unusable. Huge visual waste of space and drives me nuts.
Launcher just went to hell. Can't swipe to dismiss a story any more. Changed on 8/16. What gives?
Swipe right to remove news articles has been removed do you must now basically tap twice to get the card to vanish. Massive UX step backwards.
why you remove "app info" option now I have to enter settings and then apps and search for app to enter its info, its long story to do this, but before I can drag the app and drop to main screen into info option and thats it.
Don't just remove useful and sensible features randomly, like what the heck. Paste the code for swiping to dismiss Google now cards back in there, please.
It's decent and simple to use which is good, but it does not allow the ability to change it much. I love having things separated into folders and I can't even do that. Or if you want to remove the weather in top right with a different widget it doesn't allow for that.
Screenshots Google posted above show the ability to put 5 app icons in a row at the bottom of your screen. I can only Pick 4 on the latest version Google pixel XL on Verizon as of August 24th. If somebody can help me figure this out I will increase my rating
Well, it works but some of the decisions taken are really infuriating: * non-removable weather widget; * round icons are nice if custom designed, but the ones that are cut down from standard ones ugly as hell * launch bar folders look messy Come on, Google, you can do better. Don't make us want to go back to third parties bloatware.
Was good; now sucks. Weather disappeared. Restarted; no luck. Reinstalled; no luck. I don't need the date, and can't get rid of it! Bring back the weather!
No ability to create folders in the app drawer. This should be basic functionality. I don't want to just folders on the home screen. ????

I have tried other launchers for more customization options but keep coming back to this one because it works so well and lets me get on with life. The one thing I would like to see in future updates is a dark option for text in the launcher so that it is visible against a light wallpaper. Right now the white text only works well against dark wallpapers. Overall the best launcher if you don't want to customize the entire home screen.
