Android Messages

Definitely a good texting app if you don't feel like using your stock app. It's alright, but for someone like me who has never deleted a single message, it's poses a problem. I really want to use this, but the loading time is too slow. But then again, it's just me. I don't know anyone else with 100k+ messages in one conversation.

Can send & receive MMS on cellular but not on Wi-Fi with Samsung S8! Stock messaging app works fine on Wi-Fi (MMS) though. User interface's nice & clean. Option to change color of the background or even better, ability to add themes? Not all of us want a bright white background especially in a dark room. Different & longer vibration patterns to differentiate between calls, voicemails & texts? For Android Wear smartwatches, responding by speaking & viewing conversations are good BUT NEEDS TO ALLOW AUDIO NOTIFICATIONS for smartwatches with a speaker.

Simple, reliable, and customizable to an event, this messenger never fails me. I like the attachment options and the custom little gifs. My only gripe is that once you open the app and scroll through the conversations, the notifications go away. It'd be preferable to only have the notifications disappear if you opened the actual conversation. In addition, I'd love to see dark themes and the option to add your own background.

Really disappointing that the name changed to Android Messages and brought nothing Android to the table. Still, no customization options for notifications and themes (black) for amoled devices/night use. This is a very Apple-ish trait and one, I would of not thought Google would do with the Android platform. Thus I keep switching back to Textra. Feel like it's a more complete app and has SMS/MMS through WiFi and should also be rolling out rcs soon like Android messages. I hope Google takes into account these easy tweaks they can do to enhance user experience.

I loooved this app on my Galaxy S6. The look was simple but stylish. Everything was easy on the eyes...not too jumbled or anything. And I liked that you could set colors to different people. I just up-graded to an S8 and now the app isn't working fully. Messages send and come through when they want to. Everything the says sending or downloading (for group messages). Hopefully the next update corrects this for the S8. Until then I'll have to use the default message app.

Dear Google.... You have managed to do it YET AGAIN... You have taken a possible great app and forced people to use it. BUT, IT'S NOT SO GREAT! Oh, why not? Well, I can't​ use my Google number to text people on wifi. I can't text anyone on wifi in fact. The true test? Try texting someone with airplane mode on and wifi on as well. IT DOESN'T WORK!!!! Worst of all, they are discontinuing SMS messaging from Hangouts. So, Google, please do is all a favor and make this app more encompassing so that we can all use it for everything we do, not just another text message app.

I have to turn off my WiFi to send mms texts, and I don't receive all the texts sent, or I do and they are out of order. Many people are having this same issue, and for me it has been a problem for the last 2 updates. I have to use republic wireless which is only compatible with this messaging app. Get your app together so you can stop screwing people like me over. This is my first review and hopefully it will be my last. Fix it.

Had no issues with the previous version. But following the update to Android Messages, I've been having serious send/receive errors rendering the app useless. I've had to revert to the stock Samsung messenger app for the time being. I've sent an email to the devs and it is not a network issue. Used to be a 4 star app. I'm really hoping they fix the issue soon.

First impressions.. I noticed in the advanced settings there is no repetition notification settings , looks like Microsofts outlook lay out, with in hours I started not to like this Google Messenger App. Wouldn't connect with my Pebble watch, missed a couple of important messages. Again Google gives their consumers what they think they want and not what they really need = Uninstall :(

I tried this app just to move away from the stock samsung messages app. This app doesn't give you message previews while your phone is in lock screen. I've always liked that feature kust because I can see the sender and a preview of the message. I've tried fixing this in my notifications menu but it still doesn't work.

No issues until the last up date... On Moto G4 and Droid Turbo this app started to stop downloading and sending MMS pics. Both phones needed to be restarted and one I had to delete the app and reinstall. All other functions work good accept the random MMS issues of sending and receiving..

Please, tell me why this app will NOT send MMS picture messages? They will not send no matter how many updates. When it came to recently trying to send a picture, it failed and kept telling me that it was not sent, tap to try again. I switched back to the original messaging app and it sent without a problem. However, reopening the messenger app again, it had the messages as not sent. That seems to be the only issue so far with an otherwise good app.

Two problems that need to be addressed. 1) the new message notification doesn't reflect messages having been read. It has a perpetual new message notification even if all messages have been read. 2) if you open an old thread, the message app pins the thread to the top as if it was the most recent message. Not sure why these issues haven't been fixed yet

I would give it 5 stars if it had a dark mode among the other color options. Having a white background within the conversation and message list is a bit eye straining. Plus having a black or dark mode available would help many devices with AMOLED screens. Everything else is spot on perfect.

Only problems I have is it can't have delayed messaging, like setting up to send a text at a specific time that you premade sometime earlier, and it it could the ability to put backgrounds for individual people and options for the messaging bubbles (like making them see thru or them having little details on the bubbles, like frames.) And maybe more settings for individuals like vibrations for different people or different text tones. Everything else is great, I'd just like to see more personalization.

On my ZTE ZMax Pro I am unable to receive messages. The app sends messages fine, but incoming don't come through. I switched back to the pre-installed messaging app and ran into no issues. It's a shame because I really love the reply from notification option and the general feel of this app.

Going worse day by day, on 1+3 this is the only app which freezes and does not respond. Default 1+ SMS app is 1000 times better and have gone to using that. Also the interface looks bloated . Learn Something from ur mistakes Google

Model name: Moto G5 plus My Message sent details are display wrongly. But My phone Date and time Sets correctly. Still Message sent detail represent wrong date and time , Just Like SENT: 10/12/49199 , 8:48 PM Error code: 65536

Still no "Mark as Read" notification option, and the app leaves messages "unread" after replying from the quick reply pane.... It's really annoying to have to open the app and every conversation to mark things as read. Also, MMS no longer works on this app with Wi-Fi enabled, but all other SMS apps seem to work fine...

I have finally given up and now use Textra due to the pathetic MMS quality. I own a Nexus phone and like the quality of Google apps including this one for basic sms. If you ever send a picture though MMS then don't bother with this app.

It's great but for some Reason the app has the icon next to it saying I have a new message but I don't. I even erased all of my text messages and it the "new message icon" won't go away. Just annoying is all. Phone :Droid Z Force Edition

I love everything about this app except would like to have the option to not show pictures in text creation. For example, if I type the word car, the word appears bloated and will show picture of car. You cannot fix the word if misspelled, need to erase and type over.

Overall I like this app better than any that have come pre-loaded on my phones. However, no matter how many times they update it, they simply cannot get MMS messaging right. I get two copies of every group message and typing one takes FOREVER.

So your update didn't fix a damn thing!! Still showing I have new messages even thou I don't. Dark theme would also be nice. Cant lock messages to keep from accidentally deleting! For a big company like Google I expect better!!

Please add a feature where it automatically deletes the oldest messages when you've reached a certain amount of messages in the conversation. (100, 500, 1000, 5000) after too many messages per conversation or in general, this app begins to lag and it only gets worse and worse if you don't delete the conversations​ manually.

A messaging platform that combines Instant Messaging and SMS that can be accessed from whatever device I have at hand. Hangouts delivered that. Android Messages doesn't. Google can't​ devise and execute a comprehensive product/service strategy of their own so they chase the latest fad. "Slack is successful, let's be like Slack."

Descent and more customizable then Hangouts but no nere as practical then having all services in one app... And.... is very "lagy" on my S7 edge when scrolling in my messages its the first app to do so on it... most apps run smoothly on my S7... Once this issue solved it will be a good app for basic sms only... Sad days for Hangouts fans like me as it is to become a business app and yep it does kick ass in that department.

Still can't use app at all. SMS sending plays sound but does nothing more, no SMS goes out, not even showing on screen. MMS sending causes just "can't send" info. Hangouts work perfectly, but if you're going to disable it's SMS support I don't want to be left without substitute SMS app.

For all those writing bad reviews saying that this app doesn't work, perform a factory reset and install the Carrier Services app if you don't have it already. This is the only app that allows me to send big files to my iPhone friends. It DOES work

The app is OK but needs more customizing options.. Maybe dark themes and such ..this all really need more features updated 4~23~17.. I've been using this app since I bought my new phone.. When I read a text and back out it still shows notifications in the app icon. Pretty damn annoying after I recheck every text...this app is garbage I was better off with handcent sms

I have an HTC bolt. My unread messages have NEVER bolded, so half the time I don't know what messages I've read and haven't read. It's REALLY frustrating. I've gone through the settings, but maybe I missed something? Please help

My biggest complaint is that you can't attach a picture from the actual text you're trying to send. You have to go to the picture and then share it now. The time stamp should also be visible without having to touch the message bubble.

Great, simple to use, the assigned colors adds a nice touch to contacts. Design works well. Compatibility with iPhone "read" message support would be a nice feature to see in the future. Also, videos sent through messenges arrive in poor quality.

Not interested in flippin' stickers. Where in the new crappy bloated app interface might one find the add a photo to this message function, widget, or whatever? Clicking the + only allows stinking sticker selection. They've ruined a decent app yet again!

Enough with all the different messaging apps!!! It's becoming convoluted and ridiculous af! Just make Google Voice the main messaging, voice and chat app and be done with it. Why install 3 programs when only one is needed?

Was all working fine until recently, now whenever I try to send emoji or a message over one SMS in length, it creates an error. I only find out if i long press the message and click info. Sometimes it actually sends, sometimes it's delayed and sometimes it isn't received at all. No way of telling. Judging by Google, this is a common problems to messages, and doesn't happen in hangouts which I'm now forced to use. Hangouts SMS support ending, so I've been forced back to messenger which is more refusing to send the majority of texts. Utterly useless.

Technical errors that need to be fixed! I love everything about this app except that I don't receive all my messages. Switching to a different texting app seems to fix the issue so unfortunately I won't be using this app. I am actually really upset I have to switch.

Not sure why there isn't just one standard android app with full features. Instead there's a bunch all with different features. So annoying...combine hangouts and android messages and your 50 others in to one....

And what is the point of this kindergarten design & graphics??? I'm getting confused. Is this still for adults? Am I allowed to use it? Or did I accidentally stumble into my kids world without any invitation? Does it also come with a pacifier?
