About Google Voice

Google Voice gives you a free phone number for calling, text messaging, and voicemail. It works on smartphones and computers, and syncs across your devices so you can use the app while on the go or at home.

You're in control
Forward calls, text messages, and voicemail to any of your devices, and get spam filtered automatically. Block numbers you don't want to hear from.

Backed up and searchable
Calls, text messages, and voicemails are stored and backed up to make it easy for you to search your history.

Chat in groups, with photos
Send group texts and share photos instantly.

Your voicemail, transcribed
Google Voice provides free voicemail transcriptions that you can read in the app or have sent to your email.

Cheap international calling
Make international calls at competitive rates without using your mobile data.

Keep in mind:
• Google Voice is currently only available in the US
• All calls made using Google Voice for Android use the standard minutes from your cell phone plan
• Calls are placed through a US-based Google Voice access number, which may incur costs (e.g. when traveling internationally)

This is a great app that allows you to call and message home. I would recommend that Google combine the Hangouts dialer with this app so it does not require the use of the stock dialer on your phone. The issue I had with using the stock phone dialer is if you are traveling abroad and suspend your account sometimes the phone cannot make Wifi only calls. I am sure there are several issues that could cause this but I was able to circumvent them by using Google Hangouts dialer and Google Hangouts in combiation with this app.

Now Google Voice cannot complete my calls?! I went through the website and Google Voice works fine. The app has all permissions. I don't know what could be causing this issue. What dependencies are associated with Google Voice? ???? HOT 20170320???? issue with Android Auto. When trying to make a call, popup is displayed in background and the app is waiting for input.. this forces me exit Android Auto to make a call then open Android Auto once again.. So far so good.. long over do, but at least you did something.. ????EDIT???? could you allow us to pull previous data, i.e. SMS, calling history, etc... Maybe even if we archive in Google Hangouts we can unarchived it in Google Voice..

I just downloaded this app for my new business and I'm trying to set up a voicemail for my new number and every time I call my new number to do it line is busy. My original voicemail pops up to my personal number when someone calls my business line defeating the purpose of the app. And I'm not liking the fact that I can't change my business line incoming call tones diff from my personal call tones. Very annoying

Motorola G5 installed and is not working at all for voice messages. The whole reason I installed it. I'm still having the dial in to get my voice messages. So what is wrong with this app? I've checked all the settings and cannot find the issue. I would appreciate Google contacting me with a fix

I love this app. Just one thing I wish it could do is switch to the sd card. My phone has very limited storage space and move most things to sd card. That s all I wanted to say byeeeeeee

The new interface is good looking. And I still love having a free Voice number. But the toggle widget was simply a must. I use Voice to make calls for work, and my carrier's number for all others. The Toggle widget let me switch numbers on the fly, and now that function is buried in the in-app Settings menu. The option to choose for each call is a pain. UPDATE: I uninstalled this version and downloaded previous version's .apk from a mirror site to have access to the widget. 2/22: Guys, please: WIDGETS.

I love a lot of the second-tier Google apps like Inbox as opposed to Gmail and Allo and assistant as opposed to ok Google unfortunately with a lot of these apps you cannot set them to be the default... Also I noticed with Allo and the Google Assistant you will get different search responses to the same answer as the OK Google functionality. Please allow Google Voice to be set as a default as opposed to having to route through Hangouts for WiFi calling I hate that. Allo and the Google Assistant need to be able to call upon Inbox to send email not just Gmail... Google Voice can be set as a default dial it but only if you have a cell signal..... Just some general feedback. I just really feel that you should be able to use the assistant in conjunction with Inbox and Google Voice but you can't because they can't be set as defaults. So consequently you are stuck using Gmail and hangouts.. this would be more appealing to business owners as well.

Please fix attaching images to a message!!! I should be able to quickly attach an image in-app instead of having to go to my Photos and sharing into Google Voice that way!!! Google Voice is great as you're getting a telephone number for free that can be used across devices (USA). It could really become a dominant messaging app, if Google wanted it to be! The possibilities of adding features here is endless. I would like to see more frequent updates to this app. This app has improved tremendously but there are still obvious bugs.

Works half the time on Android 7.1.2 x86_64, crashes the rest of the time. Is there a way to get the old version b4 material design?

M70%
by M####:

I like that I can get my text and calls even if my phone or laptop is not with me by just logging into another computer. I also like that it keeps a record and backup copy of all my text and phone call logs. I also like that it gives me the flexibility to text from my computer as well and goes along with the Google Chrome extension!

by J####:

Not user friendly. I couldn't find the PIN to set up a voicemail greeting and the "Help" answers were apparently out-of-date. I had hoped to be able to schedule my Do Not Disturb hours, since it is a work number, but that feature is not available. I had also hoped to be able to create a group that would dial out on the Google Voice number, so my personal contracts would automatically dial out on my personal number, but that isn't any option. Having to select which number to dial out on every time I place a call is a pain, and it's not compatible with my Ford SYNC or "Okay Google, call...." Disappointed.

A70%
by A####:

Still a great service, but for a while now, everytime I make a regular domestic call on Verizon (with GV set to only be used for international calls), the GV app causes the dialer to quickly hang up, then place the call a second time a second or 2 later. Makes no sense. As soon as I set GV to not be used at all, the problem disappears. Just annoying.

Having an issue when receiving calls, all I hear is static when I initially get a call. If I call them back, or they call me back the call is fine, but the initial received call is static and I can't hear them. This is super annoying, and it's getting worse. I need my GV number TO WORK!

The last release is a total fail. Google, what happened? Doesn't recognize * prefixes anymore. Used to work fine and they broke it. How hard is it to detect the network i'm on and strip any * prefixes if you can't deal with them? Have a db of prefixes that you can match against.

Well, I work for a Market Research company and when we decided to go home based, we started using Google Voice. Love this program and would not be able to do my job without it.

Y70%
by Y####:

As a business feature I was really happy with Google Voice until I started noticing that the calls that I was placing and using my home phone to do started appearing as charges on my home phone which sucks. Not only that but when I call local numbers using my Google Voice number for whatever reason it reflects as sometimes a completely different state and most times a completely different number it may not be a huge deal in the grand scheme of things but it's certainly worth noting when I have to pay extra for a service that advertises as free

This has been an indispensable service to me for many years and recently got a material design update.. l also think lacking multi-select functionality in 2017 on a Google app is atrocious. Otherwise flawless.

What setting for incoming calls? I don't want to forward calls to my personal number. Defeats the purpose. Help

Apparently my Sprint number seems to be not compatible with Google Voice despite what the help files show about setting it up. I live in the USA and would like some assistance with getting things set up on my Sprint Samsung Note 8 phone.

S70%
by S####:

Voice is not a bad texting app, but it fails to understand several media types, like some video formats and contact information, so it cannot send them and, if it receives them, it cannot display or save them. At least it's still the best way to control a Google Voice number settings and to make calls using it.

Suddenly inundated with spam callers. Any way to get nomorobo support in G Voice?

M70%
by M####:

Worthless for international calling. Visiting another country and can't use GV to call home. GV wants me to verify my phone number and link it to my account. But it won't verify foreign numbers. Why can't I make GV calls to USA if I have a GV number? Sad, can text people in USA, but no calls, had to install Skype. ????

M70%
by M####:

What is the point of the app if you can not make or receive calls? why you need 3 apps for that if there are lot of apps that do the same all in only one app? Not even works good, the hangouts call fails all the time, not a good one google you can do better.

M70%
by M####:

Decent replacement for Hangouts, but lacks basic features like notification grouping, share targets, or even the ability to share to existing conversations. Also lacks voice support, making it impossible to use while driving.

Long Time User Of Google Voice. But No separation of my Google voice texts/calls and my regular device # texts and calls, No good review. It's extremely confusing bunching up all calls/texts that's not associated with the google voice # and is your device msgs/calls. Not to mention you randomly keep texts from Google voice and place them in the Google voice inbox that were either deleted or archived. Also where are my starred texts? This is ridiculous!! Add Content That Is Good in regard to Google Voice To Make It Better. Don't Take Away The Best Content You Had On Google Voice & Make It Worse. Just Look At Your Reviews And Approval Rating. Horrid. Please Separate texts and calls from the Google voice app and your device # msgs and calls. It's confusing! Please put back the Starred text option as well. Very disappointed!

M70%

This app will not work. It doesn't refrsh, load my data, or let me call or text out. I run my business line through it and can't miss calls.

M70%
by M####:

Needs some improvement. Biggest need is to perfect group messaging; I constantly don't receive random messages in group messaging. Messages come in a different order then when they were sent too so it's really hard to follow the conversation of a group you're sending texts to. Also, I would like to see the addition of being able to make and receive calls in the app. And when sharing links or pictures from another app voice takes you to your contact list, not your conversation list so you have to type your contacts in every time (makes things really inconvenient for sharing things to a group message). Themes would be nice.

I use a Google Voice number for my primary contact. I was a Verizon customer, but recently switched to T-Mobile. I configured forwarding per Google's instructions, but can no longer receive phone calls *unless* I have call screening enabled. I called Google support and was told that they are not trained to help with Google Voice issues, and the representative recommended that I post a review on here to receive a helpful response.

X70%

They give you a free phone number. Who can complain about that?

M70%
by M####:

Big flaw, despite setting outgoing calls to carrie number it calls from Voice number. Also when trying to open a contact in message it is impossible, it just drops down immediately. Needs fixing ASAP.

M70%
by M####:

Easy to set up. Calls, texts, and visual voicemail work just fine. No problems, so far. Nice to know that as long as I have a wi-fi connection, I'll always have a working number that I can be reached at even if my network coverage drops or if I'm late with a payment.

Since the recent update, I can no longer use the widget on my home screen. From what I under stand, the update notes saying "bug fixes"is a flat out lie. The update adds picture messaging, "improved" sorting of messages, calls, and voicemails, and removal of all associated widgets. Now you may as well stick with your factory messaging and calls applications. ... New problem now, when I make a call, there is a chance that my Bluetooth gets turned off for the call and I have to touch the Bluetooth icon to re enable it.

J70%

The app works well for incoming and outgoing calls, group and individual messaging, and provides a backup via you Google account of call and message history. No issues with over a year's worth of use.

X70%

When it works, I love the app. Unfortunately, I have to reenable call forwarding everyday as it stops forwarding resulting in many missed calls.

Please don't let this die Google, it is one of a kind, and really shows how awesome you people are. It's perfect for every situation where I can't use my main Phone

K70%

Very convenient, will continue to use. Only concern i have is the slight delay during calls. Otherwise any communication is satisfactory.

M70%
by M####:

Awesome ap gives you a free phone number to use that allows you to make calls , text, voicemail, and send pics. It gives you three numbers to chose from within or near your city or town.

M70%
by M####:

Does not let me send gifs and/or large images. Ridiculous. Please fix or uninstalling. Used to be a better app.

M70%
by M####:

Generally a good app. My only problem is my phone won't recognize it as a messaging app, and so it can't be made the default app.

M70%
by M####:

Is completely disconnected from Hangouts. Which is better but still could use improvements. Like a delete thread option from thread view, or once it is archieved there is an option to delete the thread
