Google Gesture Search for Android
This is the best dialer app on any platform. You can't dial a random contact faster with any other app; no other dialer works so well for one finger either. However, the app continuously crashes in the background on my Nexus 6p. I think a little ui update would be nice for something that hasn't changed in years either.
Just one suggestion. Can you add an option for users to set an priority on the content that is displayed in the search result. Like for me the result from contact list would be at least priority… but still I would need it to be displayed. But right now i have disabled them as they come over the apps result
Issue with Marshmallow??? I've noted over the past few days since my Galaxy S5 was upgraded to Marshmallow from Lollipop on Friday that even though I'm not actively using this app it is one of the top 4 in consuming my battery. On Sunday it was actually the biggest battery user and was 16% when Android OS and Android System were each about 9%. While I've used this application for years, and found it handy to locate contacts and media on my phone, I'll probably uninstall it due to the impact on battery life. Hopefully it gets fixed.
My battery is suddenly draining fast. Wakelock Detector is showing Gesture Search as THE major user by far. This has only started occurring in the last few days. Otherwise, this is a nifty app. I use it from the home screen to search for contacts.
I disable all contacts because it returns too many results. It would be great to have a filter in the app to choose the people you call most often. Or perhaps the last 10 people in your call log. I know you can adjust it through phone settings but it's not something I find useful personally.
***update*** i get an error message popup all the time on my new galaxy s7 saying unfortunately Google gesture has stopped. VERY annoying........ previous revue.....Still one of my favorite features of my phone. On my 3rd android in 3 years, and this is a must have app. Definitely makes iphone users jealous. Best and easiest way to find contacts and search your phone. One of best apps I have.
This is a great app but has not been updated since January of 2015. I installed on my nexus 6. It installs & works.... It runs in the background but while installed on Android marshmallow it kept crashing while running in the background. Time will tell if Google will update this app since they are pushing all search to Google now voice.
Great to access one app fast when you have not given it a front-row seat on your homescreen. Though it seems to me a very recent (june 15) update turned it into a battery drain (I do have the flip detection disabled)
I had used many gestures but all had to configured manually. It automatic configured all gesture u have just to install it and draw any thing it find that no need to draw v and then set v for video.solid kick to z launcher
I used this all the time on my old Galaxy S5, but it is always crashing on the 6P so I removed it. Would be great if this way of searching were more integrated into Android.
The app works great and always indexes exactly what I want, but it really doesn't look like a Google product. It looks dated, like it hasn't been updated since jellybean. It's minor, but it would be nice to see some upgraded, more Google-esque, visuals.
Nice for what it indexes. What about gmail, google tasks, Dropbox? Another would be nice is everyone. I have this on my Windows computers, yet for some reason it is not done/allowed in cell phones. Very stupid.
Well-designed and beautifully implemented. A must-have app for those that need to find their stuff in a quick and practical manner. Another great Google app. **Update 3/10/16** Broken in Marshmallow if you edit sources to be searched. If you leave all defaults, it seems to work OK. But I don't wan to search my apps and other stuff - just people! If you set it this way, it breaks.
There's no reason for this not to just work on the home screen like Nokia's Z launcher. What's up with the icon and color. Geez it looks like someone from 1998. Outside of that it works pretty good I'm happy with the way it functions.
I love this app, used it for years, but in the last week it's used 1.4 gigs of data. Why would it be using large amounts of data at all? No ads. Google already has all my contacts in a database somewhere... What's the deal?
I have been using it for years because it makes finding contacts and apps so fast. I just got a Nexus phone and was disappointed that it keeps crashing. Honestly I think the functionality should be built into the Android OS.
It may be useful but the app has to be opened to search which takes more time than to do it manually. If it was like without opening the app...it would been nice :|
Searching apps, contacts became easy and faster. App should close down automatically after clicking on searched item, but it needs to be manually closed down and it also remains in memory even after its closing, which seems unnecessary consuming of memory & battery. Please solve this issue, other wise its a best app.
This used to be one of my favorite apps. I had the widget on my home screens so I could search for apps. Starting with some update to Android in the 5.x line, I started noticing crashes when other apps either updated or were installed. I hoped that 6.0 would fix it, but no, still same issue. I even submitted the crash reports and there was no response. I'm guessing that Google never looks at those things. Sadly, all good things must come to an end. This seems to be the end for Gesture Search.
Reminds me of Edlin. Pathetic! Get someone teach you the alphabet! Update: You have have the alphabet but ťhe app is still limiting. Very so.
Crashes on Android 6.0 after new apps are installed. Frequently screws up sorting of results (infrequently used apps appear at top of results at random).
I'm using this app all the time - it seems to be great and to save me some time. But unfortunately, lately I receive a lot of "Unfortunately Gesture Search has stopped" messages (and other users, too, as I see). It seems, that it happens after every new app install or an old app update. And the problem started after updating to Android 6. Please, fix!
USED to do the job, but after 12 month it keeps constantly 'losing' numbers; oddly enough directly after you've just used it to find the same number - really annoying. If you can find something else, i suggest you do....was good, now cr*p
I just wish this could run as a launcher or have an option for a persistent notification for quick access without waiting for an icon-packed launcher to load. Or maybe add a Find shortcut so when dragging up from the Home icon, an option for this app appears.
Was working fine until, either the most recent update starting causing problems, or is having compatibilty issues with Android Marshmallow? I'm running stock Android 6.0 on a Nexus 5, non-rooted, if that helps.
It recognises gestures only inside the app not on the home screen. What is the point off searching the app and contact inside another app. It would have been great if I could tie 1 characters to a particular contact or application
This app constantly crashes and tells me it has stopped working. Virtually everyday at random times. Up to date Galaxy Note 4
Nice concept but implemented in wrong way. Why i should open an app to search ? Give this draw & search facility on android home screen with option to activate deactivate the same in settings ie. the way the nokia z launcher does (for drawing on screen only) Need clutter free screen, dont show the most recent results permanently on screen. Nexus 5 with Android M dev. preview.
This is not working well it syncs only contacts..and does not recognise the gestures we write on screen.. It just senses the first letter for all things...so uninstalled..
My battery is suddenly draining fast. Wakelock Detector is showing Gesture Search as THE major user by far. This has only started occurring in the last few days. Otherwise, this is a nifty app. I use it from the home screen to search for contacts.

I love this app, it is great and easy to use. It is helpful and help you find the number of person fast.
I liked it a lot. It can recognize my terrible penmanship which is a plus. However, the one thing it's missing is Material Design. Add it and it will be perfect, in my opinion.
hi. i love this app and use it in constant basis i am a developer myself and i do have a few suggestions to make this app more user friendly suggestion 1. search results are matched sorted in top to bottom fashion currently and mostly first row of the result itself is the needed one. i would suggest you to sort it in reverse order so that the most matched result is shown at the bottom this will help in one hand operation and user don't have to reach top of the screen to click on the result since normally our thumb is in the bottom portion and to reach the top result we can simply slide down the result with our thumb. suggestion 2. currently the call button is on the left side which again has the thumb reaching issue for right handers in big screen phone's as mine instead give an option to switch between right hand use and left hand use from the settings so for right handers it can be placed on the right and vice versa for the left. suggestion 3. showing image of the contact within each row will make the dumb look more of an eye-candy plus its easier to recognise an image of person i have few more suggestions but space to put review is less.. may be next time... :)
Used to like this app. On Xperia Z3 it can't search music, and motion launch doesn't work well. Worked better on the S3, and when it could be launched from the notification bar.
I worked well on my previous phone but in Mi4i it runs smoothly once or twice then it would say contact not found can anybody help
Ok, does a decent job - but the depth of search is too shallow. For example when searching Contacts: Gesture Search misses search hits that the Contacts app can find. (It seems Gesture Search searches only a few of fields and not all the fields.) Same for Music search. Needs an update, deeper search, reindexing options, optimize index options etc. Thanks to the developers for a decent piece of software, ok and usable but can be a LOT better.
After 6mo of consistent over heating and battery drain with no improvements or updates...I have to UNINSTALL!
Really handy. Finger writing recognition is great. I can't understand why this isn't a default app on Android!

It's my portal to absolutely everything on my phone -- apps, settings, contacts, browser bookmarks, my media. I don't need to know where anything is or remember where I put a shortcut. In usually two or three strokes I call up what I need. It's a lot like Quicklook on Mac - find and execute anything in about two seconds. I love this app, a best kept secret. It changed the way I use my phone. I've used it for years! It works really well (on MotoX at least).
