USELESS This is app trying to kill me. I'm sorry. It is a great idea but the app does not work. I'm on the app, then leave for LESS than a minute(no seriously) and the crushes hard-core. I was only keeping it for the reading list feature but honestly it's not worth it. The search, author's book list, and reviews glitch or kick me out immediately. I wish the app worked as well as I had hoped.

In comparison with the ios app the android is waaaay behind...barely keeping up with the desktop and ios versions. Too many feautres are unavailable in this version and it has been too long with almost the same feautres, every now and then a bit is updated but still, the progress is too slow.

Can't recommend books via app, can't select edition (Kindle/paperback) via app can't update a "general status" via app can't search for lists via app or do quite alot that you can do from the website. Other than that it's cool. Edit some time later (possibly years)..... Would like push notifications via app, the sing for recommendations feature is still only available via the website. The app is just no way near as good as the website!!!! Also a "feedback" option via the app might help. There are millions of us willing to give you ideas and suggestions FOR FREE!!!!!! IF THIS APP WAS MORE LIKE FACEBOOK OR TWITTER I'D PAY FOR IT!!!!! If it was any good of course!!!!

Why is the IOS app are much better than the android one? Why?? Because I changed my phone to android from iphone recently. Of course I get to know the differences. Omg, goodreads.. please, make it better. Or at least could you make it just like the IOS one? Pretty please... Because I prefer to use the website now rather than the app. Thank you so much for your effort..

I can't view genres or other editions for a book, or, most annoying, I can't see all my shelves when adding a new book, which also means I can't add the book to all the shelves I want to. And it doesn't let me combine shelves the way the website does. Also, I can't view reviews or statuses for people I'm only following, but am not friends with, and sometimes I can't view the whole review or show the spoilers for a review when the case applies. But really what bugs me the most is the problem with not displaying all of my shelves when adding a new book.

One of the most frustrating apps to use. Why is it so hard to find a book and add it to my reading list? What should be a few clicks feels more like an 80s text adventure!

While it provides most of the functionality of the web site. The app is awfully slow. There are so many loading prompts. I don't think I'll be using it much.

A must have app for bookworms like myself! The recommendations feature is wonderful. No other app is this beautifully simple. I've had it for over 5 years on multiple devices and never had an issue. Highly recommend.

Y70%

This app sucks. It has maybe 10% of the features that the actual Goodreads website has. And these 10% are features are such a headache to use. The app is slow. The app looks uninteresting. Scrolling through stuff isn't smooth. Goodreads need to prioritize improving the app for mobile users, this is the age of mobiles and they don't seem to give a damn about the app.

Goodreads is a great site, but the Android app has several shortcomings: - sometimes when you add a 'read' book, the reading dates randomly change when you save them - books sometimes don't appear in the 'read' list even when you have added them to it - sometimes the reading challenge counts one book twice or more - the whole app is not very streamlined - it would be nice to have a single obvious place to click to enter 'read dates' on the book's page

Since the new update the app is unable to load on my Samsung s7. Before that I would have given 5 stars. The app is great when it works. Love being able to have my reading challenge accessible.

An app very poorly made. I have to keep visiting the website to browse groups, recommend books, etc. Please work on improvements.

Sorted by Author doesn't work because all authors names has "by" prefix ;) it should be removed while sorting :))

The Andriod version of this app is not user friendly at all. Are there plans to improve the users experience?

Z70%
by Z####:

So odd: I'd written a one star review and now it's gone? And it said for an older edition, apparently I hadn't updated for eleven weeks (I updated all apps two weeks ago)? Like someone's playing dodgy buggers to massage their ratings? This is a great program but a terrible app that literally gets worse every update - slower and buggier. Sporadically updates without rhyme or reason. I've read three books today, updated them all and only one (the oft neglected middle sibling) made it to the right shelf and reading challenge. Old review: Good to use only if you have access to a desktop to use full site. The app is buggy and looses reviews, updates and dates read... and when you've painstakingly tapped out a review or update only to immediately loose it all, it's clear those are bugs that need fixing because they'll drive most users away.

You can add books to your account. That's it. You can't select a start date, end date, or any other functionality from the web version. An absolute waste.

Unable to use the app. Can't login.. I'm trying to use the Amazon login but keep getting a popup stating "Amazon Shopping has crashed", followed by "Goodreads has crashed". I have tried closing all applications and rebooting my phone but the issue is still occurring...

Goodreads is a great app. I've been a user for years and I'm a librarian on there. That said, here are the things that prevent it from gaining a 5 star review for me. 1) There are Podcasts out there like Hardcore History with 6 hour long single episodes and over 15 hours for a single subject like Carlin's WW1 miniseries but for some reason we can't list this as a "book" despite there being actual audio books that don't clock in at 6 hours. 2) The Giveaway function is being hijacked I think by Amazon and they're rolling out changes to make it more commercial now that they own it. Not all of these changes add value to the readers and users of Goodreads. For example, in the last week or so they made a change requiring you to add a book to your "want to read" list in order to enter the Giveaway. Still a great app, but increasing commercialization of it and decreasing the ability for users to control what's in their "libraries" by deleting things like podcasts after they're added will always prevent it from having 5 stars. More of that behavior would result in a lower than 4 star rating.

Very difficult to navigate and I can't search for people my name to add as friends. I can only add through Facebook or address book. Very counterintuitive

Just an update since my last review in September... This could easily be my favorite app. IF it didn't run so slowly. Its actually sad to me because I'd spend a lot more time reading reviews if it would actually load. Help out your Android users please! I'd gladly pay for a version that ran efficiently!

Immense scope for improvement. Been a year now and the Android app is still not up to the mark. Goodreads is a great platform. Wonder why the developers are ignoring such a massive Android user base. Atleast the genres the book has been shelved on could be displayed. Less popular social platforms have better Android apps. What is making you keep this app so primitive dev? Edit: You could do more than just replying to comments thanking us for our feedback. There is an ocean of Android users waiting for this team to act on our feedback. Act. Please.

Very good app to track read books. Very useful also to choose new books to read according to others reviews. It need only some sort of caching mechanism. Every time I open the app or select a section it has to fetch all the data from the server which is not very fast and take lot of time. I will give 5 star with this improvement.

Generally not bad, and serves nearly all the purposes I wish for it to do. BUT it would have been a lot better if this app can effectively save my statuses. A lot of them have been lost even after I've saved it. They don't appear no matter how many times I restarted the app! And when I look at it online, it's real - my statuses weren't saved at all, even though I've even taken the time to re-type and re-submit on the app. I would love to keep track of my thoughts on-the-go as I go along the books I'm reading so please fix this. Thank you.

Well. Although it lacks many important functions... still i like it. But there is one thing you should definitely work on and that is the reload option. When I make any change or add new books it does not show those changes immediately. And we cannot reload it too. It would be good if you could add a reload button so we can check if the changes we made were applied or not.

It's a great app, but in comparison to the ios version, this needs an update that works out the visual aestetics and more importantly, the usability aspect. On ios I use this mostly to add books, quickly read reviews, update my reading progress, and add books to my shelves. Each one of these tasks requires me to click through multiple, and sometimes unecessarily hidden menus to find the one button I am looking for. Shelves should be stored via the apps database, or loaded once the app opens, so that everytime I want to add a book to one of my shelves, I don't have to sit and wait for it to reload my shelves everytime. If I want to update my reading progess, I shouldn't have to go into the 'my review' menu to do so, it should be like the ios version. One they clean these things up, it will be much better!

This is a great app. I use it for any book I come across and want to remember to read. The "book shelf" feature and scrolling need some work. For example: you're only allowed to scroll 20 books at a time which makes organizing a large collection impossible. If you could view the books information, pick a shelf than go back to where you left off instead of reseting back to the first 20 books. Maybe a swipe left on book page instead of a back button. Thanks for making this app.

I love Goodreads since it's a to go destination for book lovers. I've used it for a while and found it useful and works well. But all of the above points were true of the iPhone version of Goodreads. It's got a good UI, good navigation and easy maneuverable screens. The Android version of the app is a huge disappointment. I hope the developers do better.

Y70%
by Y####:

This app is embarressing compared to the iPhone version. I hate that I cannot choice the edition of the books, I can't view details of the book, I can't see the title of the books I am reading like the ISO version, the app is not appealing at all. I called it primitive to a friend, I cannot search in the search by genre or view the lists. Does goodness think that Android users don't enjoy books as much as ISO users and so the app shouldn't be as good quality. I really hope that Goodreads updatrs this app to reflect their site and the I so version as I am a huge fan.
