El Instituto Nacional de Patrimonio Cultural fue creado en 1978, tiene 37 años, de velar por la realidad cultural del país, expresada en todas las manifestaciones de su historia.

Fotografía como patrimonio

En el año 2009, el Estado declaró a la Fotografía como un bien perteneciente al Patrimonio Cultural y Documental del Ecuador por ser portadora de información que permite la (re) construcción de la memoria histórica y social, dado que ésta se ha visto expuesta a la pérdida y el deterioro por la fragilidad de sus soportes.

El Archivo Nacional de Fotografía se encarga del inventario, catalogación y digitalización de fotografías patrimoniales, garantizando su conservación y democratizando su acceso a través de internet. Photography as equity
