About Ghost Touch Tester

With this tool you can test the touch screen bug of your Nexus 7 2013 device.

This application only shows you a static picture. That's it. That's enough to demonstrate the touch screen bug.

How to test

1.) Unlock "Developer options"
1.a. Go to the settings menu, and scroll down to "About phone." Tap it.
1.b. Scroll down to the bottom again, where you see "Build number."
1.c. Tap it seven (7) times. After the third tap, you'll see a playful dialogue that says you're four taps away from being a developer. Keep on tapping, and you've unlocked the developer settings.

2.) Activate touch visualisation
2.a. Go into the in 1.) unlocked "Developer options" menu.
2.b. Search for the "Show touches" option and enable it
2.c. From now on, every touch on the screen will be visualized with a little white point on the display.

3.) Start the test by selecting a pattern. The pattern is visualized in the left upper corner. Not all pattern cause fake touches. One pattern can cause fake touches in landscape mode but not in portrait mode or vice versa.
3.a. Look for fake touches
3.b. Touch the display with one finger (one touch point)
3.c. Touch the display with two or more fingers (multiple touch points)
3.d. Try the same pattern in landscape/portrait mode
3.e. Select other pattern (by changing portrait/landscape mode)

Give more details!! About what it does . people don't even know if it works or makes my screen go crazy intentionally.. It doesn't ask any permissions so I don't think it can create fake touches. An app which can create fake touches will be an ultimate hacking tool ;)

I've had great success in reducing ghost and Multi-touch issues on my 2013 nexus 7. But this app still acts up but not as badly as before.

Just make a screenshot, and open pattern on image viewer, this make same effect. So, how to fix this issues on N7 2013? Is my device broken?

To replicate outside the app, 1.take a screenshot of your desired pattern. 2. Install Immersive mode and make the top and bottom bars dissapear. 3. Open photos and navigate to the photo. Tap and move cursor around. Viola!!

Q70%

If you don't believe that it works you can set pattern as wallpaper and try touch it.

Fake app. Don't be fooled by this fake test. The app does not test multi touch instead it fakes a defective unit

Q70%
by Q####:

This app is fake. It checks your build.prop file and fakes a defective unit if it reads you're on a N7 2013. Source: Used on S3, no problem. Changed build.prop on S3 to N7 entry and got faked touch signatures. Flagged.

If you decompile the apk and look inside. There is no coding to check device or fake any touch responses. Please stop listening to these dumb people who think they know everything and are saying the app is fake. Take it from a developer who does this stuff for a living. This is a legitimate app and this developer did a good job showing the rendering problems of the nexus 7. Stop dissing this amazing app and disregard all of the other reviews saying it's fake. Thanks!

I have had 3 nexus7s and the first 2 had touch screen issues and the 3rd doesn't. So on my 3rd nexus 7 I can do everything perfect all the time and I never have any issues. I know what touchscreen issues are like having 2 that had them. This app is the only time my 3rd n7 ever shows fake touches. Even on my first two with touchscreen issues I never had my screen freak out with all these fake touches till I used this app. This app is nonsense and should be pulled from the Play Store. Flagged

install & see yourself. my xperia ul has no problem, but on N7, you see touch points are jumping around.

I can't believe you would make an app to fool people into thinking they have a defective device. That is completely unacceptable by any standards. Flagged.

This app is a fake and does not what it says. Tested app on known working N7 and compared to other apps, this one reports errors that arent present

Okay I have had issues with multi touch on my nexus and I have always had "show touches" enabled. Not once have I ever seen it do what this asp is doing. I find it odd that these "ghost touches" only appear in your app.

So do you know any fix? (mine goes crazy on patterns 1 to 3)

C70%

I get the touchscreen bug occasionally. I was hoping it could be set off by this app but I went through all 20 in both portrait and landscape and couldn't get it to happen. So if this has been your experience, there may be something else like plugin or memory issues that are triggering it. For the time being I will be keeping my tablet in safe mode to see if those might be the problem.

...and searched Google to see what was up and found your xda post and then this app (then noticed it was all your stuff, haha). Great to see it's the common issue. My device freaks out on some of the tests here and not others (and on some doesn't freak out until the screen is touched). Very interesting! I hope Google and Asus figure this out soon. Thanks for making this app.

Just got a Nexus 7 with a wonky touchscreen. Found this app and confirmed the defect. Displaying the first pattern I got fantom touches all over the screen, then the poor machine froze for a few seconds and then the app crashed. To test the app I tried it on my trusted Note 8 - and it worked perfectly, all patterns and touch smooth as butter.

Q70%

And the Nexus 7 screen problems are real too. I don't think there's a perfect unit in existence, even. So whatever, it's a cheap tablet, don't worry your pretty head too much about it.

K70%
by K####:

This app does not work. I don't have any issues with my touchscreen yet when I display one of the patterns without even touching the screen there are all this ghost touches. It's funny that I never have ghost touches until I run this app. I honestly think the ghost touches you see in this app are caused by it.

did a screen shot and set it as a wall paper. I got no problem. disregard this software... fake

C70%

Tried this on my wife's 2013 Nexus 7. It really does freak out. The images cause touches to register all over the place. Even in the software button area. You can see the black background in the software button area gets screwed up, too. At some point it'll cause a task switch that will take you out of the app. For me that can be the home screen and then a swipe to another screen happens. Can't fake that without permissions (or probably at all). This is for real.

C70%
by C####:

I hope this is something that can be fixed and not a hardware problem. I took a screenshot of image 1 to test outside of the app, and indeed there are many crazy touches without the app running when the image is viewed at native resolution.

C70%
by C####:

Tested with the same app on an N4 and the new N7. Whereas on the N4, it is perfectly stable, the response on the new N7 totally freaks me out. A real tester app.

Just read the corresponding thread on xda. Someone even created a webpage demonstrating the problem. An I'm quite sure, that a website is not able to create fake touches on any device so it seems that really the checkboard pattern triggers them.
