GNURoot Debian

Where's the desktop? From the reviews and author's notes, I can see that the passion for the app is there. However, it is not as simple as Linux Deploy to set up a full desktop, and it looks like it takes 2x the space as Linux Deploy if you want Gimp, FF, LibreOffice, etc. Maybe I'll figure this out one day.

Found out many Linux emulators, including the well-known "Linux Deploy". But nothing was as convenient and amazing like this. Great Job developers. Just a request: Ctrl and Alt key should be added as virtual buttons. Thanks though:)

Great application for power users who need a fairly complete Linux environment. It also exercises a sane approach to extensibility: if you need an application not included in the initial install (initial roots image), simply download it from debian repos. But please remember that while the app itself may be considered "secure" (being somehow reviewed by the Play Store), the additional software that you install is NOT necessarily trusted. Therefore, verify carefully the debian signing keys.

I loved this app on Marshmallow. I was able to test scripts that required seeing running processes. Since Nougat, I can no longer see running processes with ps -ef. That is most likely Nougat problem. However, this app can't see /storage which is my external sdcard. That is not a Nougat issue as termux and termius can see /storage. I hope there is something the devs can do to resolve those issues.

Many thanks for your GNURoot Debian! It saved me from buying one more notebook - instead I reused my nexus 10 tablet. The idea to run full blown Linux in chrooted environment (prooted) and start Xvnc server and VNC reader to access it is brilliant.

The app is fantastic. Two probably noob question remain: How do I close VNC Client? How do I install/run real desktop environment like xfce or gnome?

PS. Just a heads up... This update claims to fully emulate umask but I did some tests and it's not working for me. Do you guys have a freenode channel so we all can discuss about GNURoot?

So work standards for my device require it to not be rooted so this is great. However, is there emulation in place to replace controls such as ending a Vim session Ctrl/shift function alternatives. Or am I stuck with ```echo "some text" >> myfile```?

Arrow keys is not working eventhough its there in special keys list. None of the special keys are working. Is there anything else do i have to setup before using those special keys or is it a bug?

I've tried three other Linux apps on my Acer Chromebook R 11 (model CB5-132T-C1LK with 4GB RAM and 32GB storage), but this is the only one that actually works as advertised! It works very well, too. It's done everything I've asked, flawlessly. I tried using this app with some X server apps for Android, but found the other apps unreliable; however, I now see that this app uses Tab Window Manager (twm) to provide an X11 desktop, and it's working really well for me so far. Maybe I won't have to install Crouton or GalliumOS to run some Linux GUI apps in Chrome OS!

It's great! I just wanna know how to set the geometry of original app's vnc server 'cos I don't want to use external vnc viwer.

After the last update the app crash and does not let start. I can not enter to my linux!

Best app to chroot(or proot) debian in android linux kernel. Bug:When update to debian 9,apt is not updating,Error 100:Network Unreachable. You may work in root mode too?

Too many bug, icmp open socket not permitted, also selection text doesn't work properly, bad terminal GUI and icon

Great to play with the commandline, but no true su support for a rooted phone so it's just a toy.

I dont know y the app dosnt req root as the system files and folders are stored in the root data/data/gnuroot??

Doesn't take advantage of rooted devices. No options or control over instalation. Vnc xterm doesn't work.

Great work, Corbin! I'm really enjoying this more complete Debian installation on Android. I'm transitioning from Termux and I'd like to use a pre-patched Awesome-Powerline font. How can I make GNURoot Debian use another TTF font? With Termux:Styling, it's as simple as copying the font to ~/.termux/font.ttf and restarting Termux.

Easy to install, almost bug-free. ctrl key isn't working in its bundled terminal emulator though, so you need ssh to it.

SDcard is NOT supported «Android 6» and I use it with XSDL its good but when I try to run or install some pkgs I have D-bus problem I'm not the have any idea what D-bus thing and thanks for great app

Many essential permissions denied on Android Nougat.

Its working smoothly and out of the box. However, I would like to know how to change the standard vnc application, and how to easily close the packed one.

Terminal isn't working it won't let me run any commands from CLI or run any programs like nmap.
