The first time I tried it I won without touching any bombs

It's slow on expert, but it seems faster to calculate around the perimeter and adjacent to dig spots you've already dug. So I recommend going in a checkerboard pattern when odds are equal. Perhaps an option to turn off the expectated value and leave on the bad spot probability would help.
