About WiFi Internet Status
Simplicity above all
It Monitors WiFi's INTERNET Connection Status in the background by checking every X minutes, WITHOUT draining your battery.
I have tested it by setting the timer to check every 1 minute for a whole day. At the end of the day it didn't even show up in the Battery Power Distribution list (Settings/Battery). I believe that's conclusive. The battery consumption and the phone's resources are practically down to ZERO. And I say "practically" because an actual zero is not even theoretically possible. It would have to defy the laws of physics..
It is based on a set of routines that are activated by instant triggers from your phone, do what they do and then immediately deactivate themselves. The ONLY thing that works in the background in the end, is just a timer that triggers a milliseconds long checking sequence. The only scenario in which the checking lasts longer than a few milliseconds, is when your WiFi does not have an internet connection. That's normal since a longer timeout is necessary. You will never know it's happening anyway..
So what does it do?..:
- When your WiFi has Internet:
It does nothing. And it shouldn't. You will never know it's there. The whole concept is to turn it ON and forget about it. It will only bother you when there is a problem.
- When your WiFi does NOT have Internet:
A notification will appear on your notification bar accompanied by your notification sound and vibration. No annoying LEDs.. Then it will reset the timer.
- When you are NOT connected to a Network OR your WiFi is OFF:
It will stop the timer immediately and wait for the next instant trigger from your phone.
- When you re-connect to a Network:
It will immediately check the network for internet, inform you IF there is a problem and then re-activate the timer regardless the outcome.
- When you press OFF:
Everything stops. The timer stops, and the trigger inputs are cut-off.
- When you press ON:
First it checks for Network Connection, then for Internet, and then IF you are connected it re-activates the timer.
I have also put a Colored "Last Check" time indicator for your own psychological reasons.. So when you feel the irresistible urge to check that it has actually checked, you can open the UI and see it staring back at you with a colored indication that says: "..relax!..the app works just fine.."
The colored time indicator shows you the TIME when the LAST check took place.. The Color shows what the result was.
The colors:
GREEN: Last time it checked, your Internet was fine.
RED: Last time it checked, you did NOT have internet.
BLUE: The time when it saw that you are not connected to a WiFi network.
So that's it! And by the way the UI was made so that you can operate it with just your thumb. Minimalistic, plain and simple. And it continues as it was after reboot.
I hope you enjoy it!
P.S. While the checking routine runs (milliseconds if online), the UI (if open) is paused. This is normal since it waits for the routine to return a result.
