About Glorious Hearing-assistant
Tool to assist people with hearing-impairment communicating by translating speech to text and sending it to another device by means of Bluetooth. A bit similar to Whatsapp.
Main features
- The app requires two Android-devices: one will mostly be used for sending, while the other will mostly receive messages and show them as text.
- Typically, the hearing impaired person will want to receive text messages. These messages can be typed, but using the speech to text function of the app works way better.
- Communication between devices relies on the ubiquitous Bluetooth. As long as you and your counterpart are together, that simply works, is free and requires no 3G, WiFi or Internet-connection.
- The device's screen will not be dimmed as long the app is active, i.e. visible on the screen. That is by design, so that the receiver (who can be passive) can continue to read incoming messages without a time-out occurring.
- The font-size can be adjusted with the familiar pinch-to-zoom. One can select to emphasize the last message on screen. Sound (e.g. for incoming messages) can be enabled or disabled and the user can choose between two wallpapers. Otherwise, there are no settings.
- The Glorious Hearing-assistant is available as a free download from the Google Playstore. It requires Android 2.2 or higher. It works fine for my mother and me and I hope it helps others as well.
