The SPOT App for Android
I was really hoping I could manage profiles from the app but after installing it appears all it can do is show recent messages from my spot. No use to me at all. Spot really needs to either add more functionality to the app or create a mobile friendly web interface.
The app does nothing. I uninstalled it comma reinstalled it. I logged out and back in again. It will not locate my GPS unit no matter what. All it does is show me a map of North America. The search button does nothing. The globe icon does nothing. The refresh button does nothing. It's completely useless. I have to go to the website and locate my device. That works flawlessly.
Shows dots where Spot gps pinged the satellite but doesn't connect them in a line so its impossible to tell the route someone is taking. Just a bunch of unconnected dots. I gave feedback to Spot about this over a year ago. The last update to this app was Jan 2016- that pretty much says it all.
The spot trace works,. Sometime a little slow at notifying when there is movement, but otherwise it does what it says. The app on the other hand is constantly "stopping". I've sent tons of reports to spot,. I hate the app, but when it works everything else is fine.
So I downloaded the app, but not sure what it does. The map is blank. All it tells me is its connected to my Spot 3. So that's about it....
After several attempts, several reinstalls, cannot get the app to do what it says it does. It does not display GPS locations or track when the device is running. Useless!
This is the third attempt to give my opinion on this product? I may not have got a college degree, but even I cannot understand what the bloody hell you do? How do you set up the messages? How do you set up your spouses phone number, because the programe says you cannot have two people on the same phone number. If I am away, who the bloody hell do they think I would be calling? My wife, at the same phone number, is the one I am going to be calling if I am in trouble. Make sense?
Does very little and doesn't allow message updates to a device profile. When you're on the road and need to update contacts, messages or just change a profile, using the website on your phone is virtually impossible.
Does nothing. After logging in, it just shows a map, no tracks, no messages, nothing! Adjusting settings has no affect.
I have discontinued using the spot gen3, and sent my cancellation notice. I'm in Canada, and with the elimination of basic service & the new spot price increase, it would now cost me $300 $cdn on renewal. I like it, but for the few weeks a year we use it, I don't like it $300 worth.....
Install Spot Trace and track your stolen ride. It works. ☆☆☆☆☆. Thanks Spot. Data rates just went up to 149.00 annual. To me it is worth it, considering Tremont Towing is literally stealing cars to collect "recovery" storage, or your title. Thank You Spot !!! Really. Thank you. Samsung Galaxy Note 4- the last real Note ;)
Doesn't let me update my SPOT profile and adjust contacts and messages. This is a glaring omission
Wish we could export .gpx do profile changes from the app.
shows location on map, give family a login so they can see location on their mobiles. basic but works.
Worthless. Poor attempt, Spot.
Perfect app but in the future say you have to turn on your GPS Location or Bluetooth
Doesn't always keep track of your vehicle
Simple, straight forward, reliable. Just wish it had more features.
Needs more features and friendliness
Work great
Each time I start the app it is the same message. How disappointing...
Was hoping for more functionality. I don't really need to know where I am. Would love to be able to change/update profiles and messages from the app since I have different profiles for hiking, backpacking on the Appalachian Trail, day hikes, etc. Would like to be able to update the Additional Info in the SOS section to give specifics about my activities for the day/trip.
Very inaccurate, slow and unreliable product. Tried to cancel service but they want to charge remaining balance anyway. Would not recommend this product to anyone.
Like others have said, it needs the ability to do something other than see your tracks... such as switching profiles. Right now, all it really does is letting Marketing legally advertise "we offer an app, too!" But it's not a value-add.
Not much in the way of functionality. Bookmarking your shared page in a browser does almost the same. Great product but the app is disappointing. Nice add would be being able to change profiles ....surely that is possible soon ?
Would like to see an update that offers a terrain map with contour lines as an app option rather than just the satellite image provided by google. It does its job tracking, but lacks depth.
Only useful if you want to track a unit. I had hoped to be able to download the GPX data or configure the device, which I have to do through the website.
Much more friendly than trying to use the Web page. The messages button doesn't work on mine (galaxy s7a). Also really needs a scale indicator on the map.
Just a heads up even though they say there is Globalstar coverage over Hawaii there is not. You will need to use the Iridium network and compatible device.
Even though I've quadruple check my login information it will never let me login I've emailed the company in the past with no response.
New phone! App has lost key functionality. Won't load past tracks, search button doesn't work. Stick with the website.
Really don't work . Track see just first spot . Options don't change.
Not tracking my spot gen3. Half of buttons do nothing! On Sam s4
Not intuitive but worked at first. Now does nothing.
Simple tracking, lacks depth
worked on Samsung s6 and moto Droid turbo 2 but doesn't download position data from server on Samsung s7
Could be better if the app give you more options to mage it
Need updates
Each time I start the app it is the same message. How disappointing...

Missing a few glaringly obvious features like - displaying the app user's current location on map. (And distance from spot) - link to view the spot location in Google maps / navigate to them - use Google cloud push to update locations rather than polling, to save battery and bandwidth Otherwise, the basic functionality it does have works fairly reliably
