About Simple Weather Alert

Don't be surprised by the weather again!

This app runs in the background and monitors the official National Weather Service (NWS) alerts for your area. New alerts will appear on the status bar, and by selecting it, you can read the details.

You can also choose how urgent of a notification to get, based on the NWS Severity. An Extreme alert coming through? Then you'd probably like vibrate, lights AND bell for that! But a simple Wind Warning? Probably not as much. You can choose the level of response in the preferences.

Simple Weather Alert allows you to monitor one location for NWS alerts. If you want to monitor more locations (including locations that move with you), then consider purchasing Pro Weather Alert.

Simple Weather Alert Features:
+ Monitor NWS weather alerts for your area
+ Choose how to be notified (lights, bell, vibrate)
+ Modify notification based on NWS severity (go crazy for extreme alerts, such as Tornado Warning)
+ Alerts keep updated automatically as long as you have connectivity
+ Browse the alert list when there are multiple alerts, and read the details and instructions for the 2 MOST SEVERE alerts, as well as any EXTREME alerts.
+ An app widget added to your home screen allows for easy on/off toggling of lights, vibrate and sound settings. The alerts will still be checked and put on your status bar though, so you can keep an eye on it during class or church, without it causing distraction.
+ Key words and phrases list. Create a list of words or phrases, and when an alert is received that contains those words or phrases, it will be marked in the alerts list with an icon, and the phrases will be highlighted when you read the alert details.
+ Email an alert to friends or send via text message (requires Contacts List permission), so they can be warned as well.
+ Post an alert on Facebook or your Twitter feed, to get the word out fast.
+ Input your location by city, county, zip code, or let the app find your phone location by GPS or network location providers.

You can view the app manual here:
http://android.globalcanofworms.com/guides/swa_pwa/Simple_Pro_Weather_Alert_Manual.html

An explanation of permissions: The SMS and Contacts List permission are required so you can send an alert to someone via text message. The contacts list permission allows for easier selecting of the number.

IMPORTANT: While we take all possible precautions to make sure this app will get you critical alerts on time, the unforseen can still occur, as well as simple cell/network outages. Thus, we do not recommend that you ever rely on this app ALONE for tornado warnings. Please use this app along with other methods to ensure you are alerted in time.

NOTE: If you are certain the app is not sending you the alerts it should, please use Menu:Troubleshooting to send us debug info about it so we can work to resolve it quickly.

If you run into any other issues with this app or have questions, send us a note in the Menu:Troubleshooting screen. Also, visit the developers blog on our website for a list of current issues we are addressing.
Thank you!

Worked for a few years, but a chemical explosion happened 2 miles from my house and I didn't get a peep from the app. I opened it to find out why to realize the app hasn't been connecting for 4 months. Kinda a big deal to miss a chemical exposure that close to home. It appears others have been having similar connectivity issues.

Q70%
by Q####:

This app use to be great and in the details it says you shouldn't rely on it. What's the point then? Your not supposed to rely on tornado sirens either. If you're going to make an app that provides emergency alerts it should be made to work correctly. This app loses the network connection even when I select for it to ignore the network state.

O70%
by O####:

I used to love this app! It has become so unreliable and cannot connect. I have tried data, wifi, troubleshooting mode, reinstalling... Nothing works. Seems like multiple people are having the same problems. The last update was a year ago so it sounds like nobody is listening.

Q70%
by Q####:

As with other users, I had a great experience using this app. It does seem like there isn't any developer support because the connectivity is unreliable. However, it also appears Google updated the way Android reports network availability to apps. This app has some network sensing which no longer works and therefore believes it is always disconnected. In a highly connected cellular region there is always a connection, WiFi or otherwise. In Troubleshooting, enable Ignore Network Status. Once I did that, this valuable life saver came back to life for me.

C70%
by C####:

I used to have this on my old Android and it was fantastic, but it won't work on my new phone. The troubleshooting didn't help and I just couldn't get it to connect to a server. Since I need this for tornado warnings I really need it to work. If it's no longer a working app it needs to be removed, it could be dangerous if someone relies on it and it fails.

Q70%
by Q####:

This app used to be my favorite! It was so accurate and up to date with weather warnings. Now I can't even get it to update or give any alerts at all. So sad to lose what was my go to for weather alerts...

Q70%
by Q####:

Kept telling me that there was no service. I have Wi-Fi. I even reinstalled it. It worked for an hour. Never alerted me to a severe thunderstorm. This used to be a great app. When they fix all the problems I will reinstall it.

Q70%
by Q####:

Used to work very well. Now for some reason it says network unavailable. Been this way for nearly a month and right as we head into storm season. NOT GOOD!

Q70%
by Q####:

It used to work without fail. I've updated and deleted and re-downloaded and it still has errors and won't connect. It hasn't worked in 8 months. I'm about to delete it for good if it's not fixed quickly. It works again without fail. I'm so glad. Do you have this app available for iPhone users?

Q70%
by Q####:

Suuuuuuuuper helpful. Notifications are loud enough to wake me up so I can get to a safe place! Even without pro, this app has saved my life one or two times. And at the time of this rating, a severe stores happening right now!

N70%
by N####:

This was a great app for a long time but in the last 6 months it stopped working. I have reloaded it several times and it works for maybe a day. Then stops working again. I give up. Uninstalling it

Q70%
by Q####:

Used to work great. Has not been able to connect to the server in at least a month. When it finally did, it showed no active alerts or watches, even though my area is under a severe thunderstorm watch and a possible tornado watch. Uninstalled.

Q70%
by Q####:

Whenever I switch phones, this app is one of the first I install. I have never had any problems with it (I live in UT). There are a few tiny ads that scroll at bottom, but it is nothing annoying. This is a free app... I have no complaints at all.

Q70%
by Q####:

Doesn't update anymore. Says network unavailable when on WiFi or strong cell. USELESS until fixed. Several uninstall install. Still no good. Galaxy note5

O70%
by O####:

Constantly errors contacting the NWS server, but has no problem at all contacting the ad server! - ALSO, DO NOT PAY ANY ATTENTION TO ANY ADS THAT WARN YOU THAT YOU'RE RUNNING OUT OF MEMORY, STORAGE SPACE, OR HAVE A VIRUS, IT ISN'T TRUE! - It's a shame that some developers are so greedy that they sell ad space to the highest bidders, without regard to the unnecessary damage they could end up causing users' devices, that might would buy the paid version of this app otherwise. - I am all for making a profit, but have just a shred of personal decency and responsibility to others while you're doing it...

D70%
by D####:

Everytime I turn my wi-fi off, it can't connect using data acct....it used to work fine. This was a good app...now it's useless unless you are connected to wi-fi all the time...

W70%
by W####:

This app used to work great, but now it's constantly saying that the network is unavailable. For this to happen during tornado season is not okay. Uninstalling until it's fixed, but it seems like the developers stopped fixing it.

Q70%
by Q####:

Used to be awesome but now it always says network unavailable unless I uninstall and reinstall. Just had a severe storm warning and the app didn't go off.

Q70%
by Q####:

This use to be a very good app, but not any more. All it ever says is not connected. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Still works only for a short time. I have uninstalled for the last time.

Q70%
by Q####:

I can't trust this app any more. It was "offline" for days because it said something about not having a connection. Really?? It might not have had WIFI but cell data was certainly on, with a good internet connection. Running Galaxy S7 Verizon with Android 7 Nougat. Developers don't respond to email, comments. IS THIS APP DEAD?

J70%
by J####:

This was a paid app that worked great for a while. It hasn't been updated to keep up with the times. Unreliable now. Sad.

Q70%
by Q####:

I used to love this app. It continues to say network unavailable and stop giving updates. I thought they had fixed it, but it continues to stop working after a few updates.

Q70%

Used to work perfectly but it hasn't worked in over 3 months. Luckily I found this out before severe weather hit

Q70%

To All: In order to restore functionality... 1) go to Troubleshooting 2) select Ignore Network State 3) wait a few minutes & presto

M70%
by M####:

App no longer works. Installed it and every time I put in my zip code or city, it keeps telling me to put in a five digit zip code or city. Uninstalled, no good, bad. Totally useless. Never installing it again. A waste of time. Frustrating. Obviously there is a bug in this app.

This used to be the best free severe whether notification app out there. I used to get notifications instantly after the nws issued them. And particularly important to me because I live in a trailer park. What happened? This used too be the best whether notification app out there. Edit: I reinstalled, and worked for a bit, then stopped working. Developer seems to have abandoned this. Too bad, was a great app. Edit 2: Essentially every time you restart your phone, and possible other circumstances (like an app manager shuts down the program) it won't work any more unless you reinstall it. So i guess it still works kinda? Sad though, was a great app.

J70%
by J####:

It's been a great app for a long time, but for the last few months all I see is "an error occurred updating the NEWS fed. Alerts may not be completely updated". If I could find a solution to this problem I'd give the app a great rating. It's definitely comforting to have when it's working. EDIT: Reinstalling fixed the issue. This is a great app.

On my galaxy note 5, the app misses all watches and warnings and just says it cannot access the NWS servers. I've got the troubleshooting mode on, but still it doesn't work. Used to work well on an older android phone.

Tornados are rare in my area. We live in an area without sirens. Your app continued to warn me as a tornado went through were I live. Was small so not much damage. We were in the shelter anyway because of this app. Thanks

S70%

I've had this for years and have had it on my past phones.. Although just recently I've had problems with the app, it only works when only data is on. I can't just use data only because that will use up all my data. I can't even get updates on Wi-Fi.

I just had a tornado warning at 2am, and the app never went off. I found out via emergency text, which I also never got because the phone was on silent. Very scary that this didnt work.

S70%

It used to work without fail. I've updated and deleted and re-downloaded and it still has errors and won't connect. It hasn't worked in 8 months. I'm about to delete it for good if it's not fixed quickly

I ran the test & all the test alerts came through. Have had two rounds of storms, and the weather channel was sending alerts left and right. Absolutely nothing from this app! Glad I wasn't depending on it during something life threatening!

S70%
by S####:

This app gave me enough notice to make it home to my family and get them secured in the house , the tornado missed my sisters house by 50'. I was 15 minutes away at a friend's house at the time . So for this reason I give 5 stars . She lost two of her 3 barns and lots of trees down some neighbors lost brick homes. Hope this helps with your decision on this app.

Excellent App now that bug preventing NWS access has been fixed. Thunderstorms heading in today, we'll see how it works.

Has alerted me several times minutes BEFORE I even heard tornado sirens go off in my city. Awesome!

G70%

It's never failed me. I've been using it a long time and have never had any issues. There's nothing fancy. Simply weather alerts that you can modify settings for.

M70%

Great app. Just make sure to see if it needs to be updated when error occurs. I've had this app for two years now. I always wake up to it when needed to be.

10/4/16. Have used this app for yrs but lately wondering if this app stopped working? There was severe weather lasy night and more expected tonight yet no alerts.

S70%
by S####:

Working much better after the last update, I no longer have to go to Troubleshoot and use a Test Location so I can get connected.
