About Pro Weather Alert

Don't be surprised by the weather again!

This app runs in the background and monitors the official National Weather Service (NWS) alerts for your area. New alerts will appear on the status bar, and by selecting it, you can read the details.

You can also choose how urgent of a notification to get, based on the NWS Severity. An Extreme alert coming through? Then you'd probably like vibrate, lights AND bell for that! But a simple Wind Warning? Probably not as much. You can choose the level of response in the preferences.

Pro Weather Alert has all of the features of Simple Weather Alert, and more!

+ No ads.
+ Monitor multiple locations, each with an intuitive name you set.
+ See the details and instructions of all alerts for all areas.
+ See where around you the alerts are using the Alert Map. No more wondering if you're driving into or out of bad weather.
+ Choose how to be notified (lights, bell, vibrate), and decide which alerts will override your phone silence settings.
+ Sort and Filter the alerts in the list, by severity or location.
+ Two alert levels (“emergency” and “urgent”) are customizable, in case you want lights, bell, and vibrate for extreme alerts, and just lights for severe alerts. All other weather alerts will give a simple notice on the action bar.
+ Individually select which NWS alerts you want to be considered "Emergency" or "Urgent"
+ Alerts keep updated automatically as long as you have connectivity
+ Find your alert location by GPS or network location, and have alerts follow your phone as you move.
+ An app widget added to your home screen allows for easy on/off toggling of lights, vibrate and sound settings. The alerts will still be checked and put on your status bar though, so you can keep an eye on it during class or church, without it causing distraction. You can also toggle the location following feature to save battery when not driving.
+ Key words and phrases list. Create a list of words or phrases, and when an alert is received that contains those words or phrases, it will be marked in the alerts list with an icon, and the phrases will be highlighted when you read the alert details.
+ Email an alert to friends or send via text message (**requires Contacts List permission**), so they can be warned as well.
+ Post your alert to our Facebook wall or Twitter feed! This is especially useful for non-weather alerts, such as Child Abduction Emergencies.
+ Change your alert polling times to maximize battery life.
+ Constant alerting annoying? You can now mute repeated alerts so those busy storm nights don't un-necessarily alert you.

NOTE: Do *NOT* use RAM or memory clearing apps. It will disable this app and you will not receive alerts.
You can view the app manual here or in the app:
http://android.globalcanofworms.com/guides/swa_pwa/Simple_Pro_Weather_Alert_Manual.html

An explanation of permissions: The SMS and Contacts List permission are required so you can send an alert to someone via text message. The contacts list permission allows for easier selecting of the number.

IMPORTANT: While we take all possible precautions to make sure this app will get you critical alerts on time, the unforseen can still occur, as well as simple cell/network outages. Thus, we do not recommend that you ever rely on this app ALONE for tornado warnings. Please use this app along with other methods to ensure you are alerted in time.

NOTE: If you are certain the app is not sending you the alerts it should, please use Menu:Troubleshooting to send us debug info about it so we can work to resolve it quickly.

If you run into any other issues with this app or have questions, send us a note in the Menu:Troubleshooting screen. Also, visit the developers blog on our website for a list of current issues we are addressing.

I have been a loyal user of Pro Weather Alert for years - no other app on the Play Store does what this app does. I live in St. Louis, which often has tornadoes and severe storms, so it's important to have a reliable app to monitor watches and warnings.  Unfortunately, Pro Weather Alert has been anything but reliable lately. The alert service has been disabled for months, regardless of what I do to troubleshoot. It appears that the app hasn't been updated since June 2016...is it safe to assume that the app is dead?

T70%
by T####:

No longer reliable, it seams that it never connects to the server at what I must assume is the NWS. I take this to mean the developer is not updating the app any more. I cannot suggest this app beanie it doesn't work any more. It was great because it did exactly what you wanted. Selectable alerts, selectable tones and very quick. Now, nothing.

Z70%
by Z####:

Best weather app there is, hands down. No unnecessary crap, just information. There is a high amount of customization available so you can tailor your alerts to your geographical climate (for instance, I live in a landlocked state so I don't need hurricane warnings). It is so worth the money!

T70%
by T####:

Pro Weather Alert used to be an app that I could rely on for sever weather alerts. Lately it continues to fail. Occasionally the app works and does exactly what it is supposed to do, then most of the time - NOTHING! Sad to say until this app is updated to work as it used to, it gets a low rating. I really would like to see it run as it used to.

T70%
by T####:

Used to work great. Got a new phone with nougat and now it's useless. Hasn't been updated in over a year. I did what other suggested with the battery settings, that did not work. The app is useless and now uninstalled. Save your time and money. Shame on the developers for dropping the ball.

E70%
by E####:

This app used to be fantastic!! However, after I purchased a new phone with Android 7.1.1, I am getting the error "The network is currently unavailable. When connectivity is restored, alerts will be updated.". It would be great if the developers would put out an update.

I70%
by I####:

I've been trying to email the developer, and it says the email address is no longer valid. This is still a good app for me, but it doesn't always update for the minor things I have it set for...only the severe stuff. They need to update the app and I will change my rating. Don't purchase this app!

Z70%
by Z####:

Used to work well, now hasn't worked in months. Developer does not respond too emails or on Facebook. What once was a great app is now useless! Wish I didn't pay for the pro version for myself and my wife!

G70%
by G####:

Dead app. Used to be great; I've used it for years. Past few months it's been very unreliable. It frequently loses network connection and doesn't update alerts for weeks. After missing countless severe thunderstorm warnings and 2 tornado warnings, I'm dropping this app for good. Very sad because no other app lets me set custom sound for emergency (tornado warning) alerts.

U70%
by U####:

I used to absolutely LOVE this paid app. I relied on it heavily, especially since I work for my county emergency weather communications. But now (especially since the Nougat upgrade) it is not even close to being reliable - or functional for that matter. Even using the optional work around doesn't help indefinitely. I have to unclick the "ignore" status then reclick it. Only then it will work, but not for long. Emailing the developer results in returned email. Sad part is, there's not another app available that comes close to what this one did.

P70%
by P####:

I really enjoy the application but lately I haven't been getting any notifications. It's now telling me that. "The network is currently unavailable When connectivity is restored, alerts will be updated." I don't know what is going on with the application

F70%
by F####:

alert service is disabled, it's no longer compatible with the newest version of Android when I go into my application manager that is exactly what it says. Please update this application so it is. I rely, well relied, heavily on this application when I storm chase to get up to date information on severe weather.

T70%
by T####:

This app is an absolute joke period. after trying to contact someone, I have repeatedly been ignored. It will work fine for a few days. And then you will get a "unable to establish a contact with the National Weather Service feed, alerts may not be accurate." And then after that happens, good luck getting anybody to respond. And why should they? Their money has been made, and they can hide behind the anonymity of the internet. There are better apps out there.

T70%
by T####:

I've had this app for a long time but recently it can't access the NWS's network to provide alerts. The app hasn't been updated since 6/15/16 and this review is being written on 6/19/17. I will be looking for a new app. Don't waste your money.

W70%
by W####:

this used to be a great app. then well, no more updates and it never alerts me for anything. not sure what is going on but after being a loyal user, im deleting and finding something else. such a shame.

T70%
by T####:

This was a great app until my phone upgraded to Nougat. Now it never sends alerts, says the network is unavailable when it is, and if I ignore network status, it still says it can't connect. I tried emailing the developer and received a bounce back from the email address. No way to fix it, apparently.

O70%
by O####:

Was THE best app for years. Now I get faulty alerts for the wrong counties, causing me to have to disable a county I really need alerts for. I will change to 5 stars if this is fixed. I used to recommend this to everyone but it isn't reliable in emergencies as is. Otherwise, amazing app. Please fix!

U70%
by U####:

Gives alerts, sometimes. Used to be a great app, but is now abandoned. Notification icon solid square, and location usually gets stuck one county behind me, and sometimes I'll have to toggle my wifi to get alerts to work again. A little app TLC and I'll go back to 5 stars.

T70%
by T####:

Not getting any alerts. Used to work perfectly. Now network is constantly unavailable. The alerts I am set to receive are life threatning to me and mine!! Please fix this and I will change to 5 stars!!

S70%

Only 1 star because I stopped getting timely alerts. And the alerts I DO get are very sporadic. Emailed the developer and received an "undeliverable" msg. Last update was over a year ago.

I have loved this app for years, but now it never runs. We'll be having a storm and I'll think, hmmm, didn't hear from Pro Weather Alert. I open the app and see it hasn't updated in days! I've uninstalled and reinstalled countless times, but now I'm just sick of it.

Used to love this app but it hasn't worked for months. I've been following the Facebook posts and it sounds like the app might come back again, possibly with some beta testing required.

Dev took a break for awhile, and the app slipped a bit.. but now he's back and putting a ton of effort into making this a great weather app again. Keep it up!!

T70%
by T####:

Outstanding!!! Very nicely done, weather alerts come in faster than other apps. Loved it so much, purchased the pro app. Just please keep it updated. Being disabled, this is a must for me to know the weather, and or take cover.

T70%
by T####:

Excellent app. We just had another weather event in my area & I ended up warning family b/c the alerts they have didn't. It's customizable just for the level & types I need which prevents me constantly getting the annoying service bulletins from the nws. Highly recommend & worth the few bucks to support, it's a real life saver!

T70%
by T####:

Used to be the best weather alert by far, now it rarely alerts me at all. There was a Tornado Watch this afternoon and a Severe Thunderstorm warning and not a peep from the app. Sad! Fix!

N70%
by N####:

Was a great app, been using it for the last 3 years, Lately have been having all types of connection problems..Considering last update was close to a year ago have to think it is a dead app. Just need some tweaks to make it work with an Android auto head unit (notifications are blocked both on the head unit and on the phone, no sounds at all)

T70%
by T####:

Update: Lowering Rating for ignoring me (and everyone else apparently), and for failing to maintain product across all recent Android OS platforms. Update: On Nougat 7.1.1 (Nexus 6p) - Persistent notification icon, is a solid white box. Please fix/adjust - Thanks! Original Review: Product occasionally stops running in background (ie. indicates last check was days/months ago - OUCH!) A separate product health "watchdog" process to notify users of this failure would help reliability..

I have used this app for a few years now. Loved it up until about last March. Keeps saying an error occurred contacting NWS. Uninstalled and reinstalled several times with no effect.

M70%
by M####:

One of the most useful apps on my phone. Simple and gets the job done! Notification icons are broken in Marshmallow though.. only a plain white square appears. And would be great to have alerts based on the NWS zone, not just county. Keep up the great work!

M70%
by M####:

UPDATE: App is 100% good and functional again... back to 5 stars! EARLIER POST: Says "error contacting NWS feed." Same problem as many posting here. Sent troubleshooting reports to developer.

M70%
by M####:

Extremely useful app. Great for notification of severe weather at any time. Keeps up with the sever storms. Also has a useful map showing the warning or watch areas. Very useful at night time to keep up with alerts when asleep because you can set it for emergency notification while sleeping.

This was a great app. Now having constant issues with either the app saying there is no network connectivity or the alert service is down. First time it was two weeks that the app hadn't checked for alerts. Now it is saying there is no network connectivity. Done screwing around with clearing cache and data just to have it work.

This used to be my most useful app but more recently the alert service keeps stopping on my device. I've been trying to contact the dev for over two weeks for help with no response. This paid app is now non functional for me.

Worked great for years, now it just refuses to work correctly. Constant connection errors when updating alerts, I'm lucky if this gets an alert within 3 hours of it coming out. DO NOT BUY

I love this app for Tornado/severe warnings. Unfortunately the app stopped working after last phone upgrade. Says there is no connection although I am on WiFi and mobile data. All other apps work.

This is the one I have wanted since I got my Droid in Jan-2011. I travel all over the country and spend most of my day outside in remote areas. This app works! Pro version is totally worth the money. But be sure to sit down with it and read the manual so you get it properly configured for your situation. The latest update has alerts working again. Thank you, there are a lot of us who depend on this!

Pollong takes place at the specified intervals, but alerts are sometimes not picked up until the actual start time (i.e. Flash Flood Watch issued at 3:30PM does not appear until the start time of 7PM)
