About Chorded Keyboard - GKOS

A chorded keyboard with big buttons and on-screen help. You can enter characters by pressing a single key or two keys together, like playing a simple chord on a piano. It is based on the GKOS open keyboard standard, and provides fast single or two handed chordic text entry. No chord charts or memorizing of chords! The final typing speed is only limited by how fast you can tap your fingers on the big keys on the screen.

Supported languages: English, Esperanto, Estonian, Danish, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Icelandic, Italian, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish

Keywords: gkos, android, chorded, keyboard, big, fast, typing

I don't know if this is a very practical keyboard but it is a good game brain game it hasn't had any updates for years so probably won't in future takes hardly any space on device easy to see

Y70%
by Y####:

Why can't I use this as my default keyboard?

Y70%
by Y####:

Useless

P70%
by P####:

Master race. People should learn to use this keyboard because it is definitely better then t9 or qwerty.

S70%
by S####:

Best keyboard ever!

S70%
by S####:

It has a good interface to lean using GKOS and works very well. The only downside is that the size is not adjustable. Please make a physical bluetooth version too, we need that and there is currently no one selling any. What about a GKOS kickstarter?

R70%
by R####:

Doesn't work on Lollipop. If it did I would use it. Also, it would be better if it worked with all apps like a built in keyboard.

N70%
by N####:

Strange and haven't got the patients.

N70%
by N####:

I love the concept and how the text runs down the middle while the phone is sideways but its not very efficient even after getting the hang of it.

O70%
by O####:

I spent quite awhile using this on my Nokia N9, but it was inconvenient transferring text to any program. There were instructions for making a physical keyboard, and I would have bought one if it was available. Somebody make it and I'll buy it now if the cost isn't too much.

I really, really don't understand what people find so great about this app its got a huge learning curve, requires too much memorization to actually type like a pro, or a master as they call it, and you actually have to sit down for 5 to 10 minutes to figure it out. No tutorial and very little YouTube videos on it makes this a very sub par app and experience sorry gkos maybe next time.

E70%
by E####:

there's no easy way to switch to it. since it won't be reliable until i get good at it, i need to put all my keyboard app in one folder so i can switch easily from one to the other when it's getting frustrating. chorded doesn't have that options unlike touchpal and messagEase. also this doesn't look like it's doing well in android. it has potential if developed well. looks like you've abandoned it. til then i'm trying messagEase.

I've used chorded keyboards in the past and was excited to try this one out, however, there's no tutorial, the GUI is a mess, and after 15 minutes I'm just uninstalling it.

C70%
by C####:

I like where this tool is going, but it is hard to slide my finger so far while trying to type one handed. Mirroring helps but there are still long slide motions that need to be done. Would help if I could sesize the keyboard.

Nothing. !!!!!!!! Thought. I finally found an apparently with big letters

T70%

Finally a keyboard like I need it. After a steep learning curve you start to type blindly and without the otherwise typical errors. When you've come to this, you'd like to have more pro-features, though. (1) Add a transparent mode (beyond master mode) so one can use and view the whole screen while typing blindly. (2) In portrait mode allow placing the keyboard further up (avoids hand cramps). (3) Add a key repeat. (4) Allow configuring of characters generated by keys. (5) Allow configuring of size.

I recently started using a large 10-inch tablet and was finding it very difficult to type while holding the tablet with two hands in landscape mode. This keyboard completely alleviates the problem, all alphanumeric keys, special symbols, and even several control keys can all be comfortably typed using only the thumbs and without having to reach towards the center of the screen more than an inch or so. Overall though this app is lacking in features. This keyboard would be a real killer if it allowed for typing multiple chord-characters without having to lift both fingers, word-ersase, or implemented auto-complete system. Great idea, but needs more work to be a contender.

How awesome to have a chorded keyboard on Android! Works relatively well and feels comfortable to use in landscape mode. Different button colours, as well as the alternate layout (which I did have some trouble getting to work). A good middle point for me until I can afford a FrogPad or build my own key pad.

E70%
by E####:

I've been looking around for a keyboard that allows me to type without looking on a touch screen, and I believe that with some practice ill be able to do that using this keyboard. I like the optimized layout, as I use the optimised dvorak layout on my computer keyboard and have become accustomed to easy access to commonly-used keys. The reason behind giving this app only four stars is that there is no ":" button in this keyboard. I would like to see the symbols expanded to include ":," ";" and other symbols

A70%
by A####:

C+D chord in SYMBOL mode is mapped to ! instead of | F+A chord in SYMBOL mode is mapped to ? instead of ~ Applies to optimised layout as well as standard layout (English). Would be nice to see these fixed for terminal emulator work.

T70%
by T####:

quite like seems like touch typing is surprisingly possible. takes up a huge amount of screen real estate

K70%
by K####:

HTC Incredible - установил, английский нормально все. а русский шрифт не отображается. Снес (

Q70%
by Q####:

some needed features... it is very hard to to make a colon, it is hard to switch to uppercase, and it would be helpful to automatically capitalize the beginning of sentences. otherwise a great app! much more suited to a touch screen than the traditional qwerty layout

T70%
by T####:

hoping to see better support for single handed typing as its a bit too wide for that (even the option to put the two panels on top of each other might work), its awesome for holding a tablet landscape (and two -handed) though!

Q70%
by Q####:

l really like this, its very different then the key board normal used. GREAT

T70%
by T####:

Wow! Never thought someone could/would make things like these! I'm gonna tell everyone! This'll get like a million, trillion downloads! And get the "Most Downloaded Application" Award and it will be pre-installed in ALL TOUCHSCREEN PHONES!!!!!!!!!!

T70%
by T####:

alternative layout not working... samsung sII

T70%
by T####:

but a few problems, it takes up way too much screen and could do with being transparent

T70%
by T####:

Entertaining and efficient. So why is it free? I'd pay for it.

T70%
by T####:

Letters are in alpha order, not frequency. So common words will always require chording. Also, CR not supported. Good idea, needs work.

W70%
by W####:

Is really buggy on HTC hero.

T70%
by T####:

excellent but the placement of the letters needs to be strategised. see frogpad.

T70%
by T####:

Umm... Nothing to do with chords.

E70%
by E####:

Works perectly on my wife's myTouch 4g, which has a fairly large screen, and it's very fast to type once the concept is understood.

T70%

Really confusing.!
