texport

Export 1-to-1 SMS / MMS conversations to HTML. Without ever leaving your phone, you can backup a conversation, zip it, and attach it to an email.

Export options:

• Include text tells texport to include the text portion of your conversation history.
• Include images lets it know to include the images from your conversation.
• Image quality defines how aggressively the images will be compressed.
• Inline images defines whether the images will be included in the HTML as data-urls, or saved as individual files, and simply referenced.
• HTML or JSON sets the output format.
• Chunking allows you to split the conversation up into smaller files.

Interaction flow

Once you start texport, it will load your conversation list. Select a conversation to export with your index or other finger of your choosing. You will be taken to the export options screen.

Adjust these however you like, and click export. You will be presented with a progress bar. Depending on your conversation size, this could take a while (and generate a very large file).

Exports are saved in the directory Documents/Conversations. You may not able to see them on your computer until android rescans*. Don't worry, this is the reason for texport's file list screen.

Once your export is complete, you will be taken to the file list. Select a file by tapping it. If you choose the same finger as previously used beware of muscular differentiation. You will then be taken to the file actions screen.

Here you may have a few options, depending on your choices during export:

• Create zip archive zips the conversation file or directory.
• View in browser is not available for JSON exports.
• Send notifies android you would like to share the file, and is not available for directories.
• Delete attempts to removes all traces of the conversation backup file or directory.

User data

In the spirit of usage-based improvement, texport is equipped with Google Analytics. In the event of a catastrophic application crash, or even just a regular crash, texport attempts to send a crash report.

Permissions

• READ_PROFILE is used to retrieve your name for use in the conversation transcript.
• READ_SMS is required for texport to read your conversation.
• READ_CONTACTS allows texport to display contact names and pictures instead of a mysterious thread ID.
• WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE is required to save the exported files.
• READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE is for checking on the exported files.
• INTERNET is used by Google Analytics and to send the crash reports.
• ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE is required by Google Analytics
