Ghost Commander File Manager for Android
Unable to enable Write to SD Card, checked all permissions, everything is enabled. Android 7.0 OS Uninstalled 2/2/17. Love the interface and everything else was much better than the standard and total commander file manager. Has the potential for greatness!!!
Odd and awkward interface, also has difficulty with some root file structures, but I cannot praise it enough when dealing with smb shares, it is fast and error free.
Finally found a replacement for esfile explorer after it comes packaged with all those crapware. Pros: small size, no crapware, GPL licensed, no ads. Cons: refresh is rather hidden, tapping on the title makes the folder refresh which isn't apparent. But really minor once you find out.
I endorse this app 5 stars,app reliability. +++Twitter+++ Counfd
CANNOT GRANT IT ROOT PERMISSIONS ONE ⛤ FOREVER
Works great! No adds, easy to use, lots of plug-ins. It is GPL licensed, so you can check for yourself whether the code is safe to use, especially with your passwords and sensitive files. The only problem is something that can't be changed by the developers of this app: that my Android 4.0 device will not allow third party apps (including this one) to modify my external SD-Card.
I use this mainly to access my server over sftp. My only complaint is how it moves remote files. Moving a file on the same physical drive should be instantaneous. But Ghost Commander first downloads the file, then uploads it to the new location. Wasting a literally infinite amount of extra time.
This is my go to app for Android file management, mostly. However, I still need an additional app for a simple task like changing the extension on multiple files. Of course, I could be missing something, but since I use a batch rename program for this it isn't a big deal.
Whenever there's an add free app that survives off of donations I donate. There's a loyalty there a bond initiated by the developer.. I doubt I am the only one who feels and responds in a similar manner . Thank you Edit :just to add....There's nothing that compares to this..I mean I was able to delete several as in more than three apps because of this gem
I love this app, but it fail to copy on Note 4 N910c marshmallow stock Rom. I was trying to copy file from internal storage in folder Android/obb into external SD card. Permission for storage was granted before copying. Please help me, tq
Thank you for adding the Report Crash feature! :-D Unfortunately, I cannot give you another star because the problem persists: Trying to move a large volume of (large) files from system storage to external storage crashes G.C., even with adequate RAM available. Confirmed it takes less than 500MB to do it. Other than that it's a 5 star app. :-/ ASTRO *still* works like a charm: moved over 2500 files (1.25GB+) to the ext. SD by using continuous file discovery and, just moving one file at a time, I guess...
you tell me why it creates files in people's System-Disk folder? instead of creating a folder to put THOSE scattered FILES into?
I want to change the extaitaction (.zip)of some files but it does not work that way on my Samsung Galaxy s7 edge
Everything is covered within few kbs! Lite , high-speed. Totally it is an use full tool.
Best file manager at all, also I like to become a beta tester
lost ability to choose files when invoked from browser to upload...
Excellent feature set, made even better by being open source.
Free, complete, customizable, stays out of your way. If you love KDE's Dolphin, you will love this. Excellent !
Smoothly exchanges files with my computer.
Better then you ever could hope to be.
Excelente retro app
11/24/2013: Love this file manager … clearly made for actual use but still has an appealing, practical aesthetic. Launches instantly, even cold, and is very responsive—on my EvoLTE my brain is the limiting factor on how fast I can get things done. sFTP works flawlessly. Thumbnails are very nice for image heavy folders. Would love to see cut/copy to clipboard added (in addition to pane-to-pane) as both modes have their uses. Otherwise superb. Very Highly recommend. Update (Nov 2016): Been using GC as my primary file manager for more than 3 years now on 4 different phones. Had a few interactions with the dev in that time too. CANNOT RECOMMEND HIGHLY ENOUGH. This is still a superb file manager with a broad range of useful features that simply lets you get things done.
Have tried a few file managers & always come back to this one- the various cloud plug-ins work so seamlessly that it is easy to forget that you are moving around files that are not on your device-
Super multitool without unnecessary tinsel and spangle
This fully equipped file manager is open source and has no adds or bs premium version needed to get full function. Every android user should have this app also installed it on my sisters device and she is not technical and uses it with ease. It gets great speeds over ftp on all my devices and does not seem to over consume resources like many others. A slight learning curve to get the hang of it may be needed for novice users but the time is well invested. Even supports custom colors out of the box. Also supports private key authentication over ssh.
Major nit with sftp/smb when given an unreachable IP address. It takes forever to timeout and when it does the only options given are wait or close the whole app. Except closing, then restarting takes you right back to the same problem. Lather, rinse, repeat. How about just killing the process.
Despite the frustrating misery of Google's crap Marshmallow, I can access my files with reasonable ease thanks to Ghost Commander. I am very grateful for this 1st. class app & wouldn't be without it! Motorola Moto X Style.
After 2years waiting I repeat it: Some is adjustable, but most is unreadable small, unusable. Had to find first to scroll down in 9prefs, nothing said in help, so major design probs. Samsung galaxy tab2 7" Add: still big pain to select several files.
When I try to copy or cut files from internal memory, it says files have no access. It's a shame, as the design looks brilliant. Need to transfer files to SD card, so please tell me what is wrong.
Has many major functions, though presentation could use work. I'd say a power-user more than casual user tool.
Other file managers allow other apps to share to them. I really want to use GC exclusively, but it's not there quite yet. What it does, though, it does solidly and without bloat. I'm impressed.
E≠MC² | Energy E=MC³ (C=Speed of Light CUBED)≈4D»∞ ...watchout Einstein. Sorry dude, butnice fireworks "Mr. Roboto!" Get it? Message me/add.
Haven't used the App yet though oviding details to explain the permissions needed gets an automatic three star.
Simply the best, no nonsense, intuitive e and functional file explorer I have found. Used on all my devices!!
One of the few tools in the free software world that's complete & works well. Gets an additional * for being GPL.
Amaze is open-source and looks much better.
Like it. It's a lil' different from most others.
Didn't move files.
Find no way to change encoding in txt viewer, this is the only flaw i found till now

Just loaded the app for the first time after looking for ES File Explore replacement. Well so far so good, that is until i tried the copy/move feature (which is an absolute must for me at the moment). There's no "browse" option. If i want to make a spare copy of something for "just in case" or "testing", i would need to know EXACTLY what I'm typing out. I'm just learning, I'm not all THAT good/into it quite yet. The browse option would make things a bit easier for everyone and is honestly a great feature for all around. Thanks.
