C by GE for Android
I'm changing my rating of 1 star from the version before the latest update (March 15th) to a five star because this update finally fixed the connection issues with my device as well as many other on Nougat hopefully. Thank you very much for the reply to let me know this app was updated, it goes to show you all were listening to your feedback and even though it took a while to fix the issue, you were definitely trying and didn't let us down.
Previous release connected to sleep, but no longer even connects. Never was able to connect to life on any release. Nexus 7 LTE and Moto g 2nd gen on Android 6. Had bulbs for 8 months, still trying.
I wanted to like this app and these bulbs, I really did. TLDR; do not buy. It took months for GE to update this app so that the lights work with Nougat. It almost seemed like GE was letting this devolve into vaporware. When it started working, I was really excited to try using the lights I had bought months before. Now that it is working, pairing was pretty easy, and I had to update some firmware. The app seemed to work well enough until I started to show my wife on her phone. A few things rapidly became apparent. This ecosystem was not designed for multi-device control. 1. If you want to control the bulbs from multiple devices, you have to create an account for each device, or else re-enter your password each time, since your account can only be used on one device at a time. 2. It took some finding to figure out that you have to share the account by email address. Not user friendly. 3. Only one device can control at a time. This causes oddities, and the closer device usually wins. The worst part about of all this is that, while trying to connect the lights to another account, they randomly turned on. How did I know this? They woke up my infant in the other room. It was odd, since neither device ever showed that it was connected to the bulbs. Buyer beware. I would recommend against using this ecosystem of smart lights. I hope I can just use the ones I can't return as regular LED bulbs that make extra heat.
Works perfectly fine and I'm able to change the dim setting right from my phone
Guys. This is bad. The system worked well enough for me not to return my bulbs immediately... After updating my phone to the new Android OS my bulbs are literally worthless. The app won't see the phones to connect with them. It's been nearly two weeks!! Where. Are. You?
The one bulb that I bought today for testing will be going back tomorrow. Wouldn't connect sitting less than a meter from the bulb. Unacceptable. I will look to vendors other than GE for LED bulb purchases as I assume this is representative of their product development and support.
Used to connect w/o an issue, now most days I have to force close the app and try again. If you just bought the bulbs, my advice would be take them back to the store. Now you cant have more than one device signed into an account for this product! That is like putting a lock on a light switch and only allowing one person to be able to use that switch. What were you idiots thinking????!!!!! You people owe everyone who has bought this product an apology for the pathetic excuse for an app that you have released. In fact you should fire all of your app designers and replace them with someone who knows what they are doing!
Nexus 5XBluetooth won't connect. Iphone 7 won't connect. 2 year old galaxy connected once, but not again. So, the app does nothing. Will update review when patch comes out for Nougat. Still not working with update.
I'm using LG G3 and it's working good. I stand next to bulb and it pairs under 5seconds. I wish it would dim a lot more.purchased 2 weeks ago. Pricey.
It's a shame that the bulb does what I want, but the only app that it responds to is utter garbage. Sometimes I can't connect to the bulb or the app thinks I have no account. GE either needs to open up the protocol and commands so I can use something else to control it, or fix their sad excuse for an Android app.
Its funny that everyone is saying the same thing about the this firmware update but GE hasn't done anything to fix it or even respond to these comments.
Doesn't work Will return bulb to Home Depot. Too bad the app not working loses them a sale too
The app and bulb simply do not work. Sometimes they connect but the majority of the time they do not. Don't waste time or money on this product.
After most recent firmware update, bulbs connect for 2 secs then disconnect.
Worked before now it won't
Lots of reviews of the bulbs not connecting but they connected to the iPhone, Nokia Lumia, Galaxy S6 & S7 we have in our home just fine. Worked perfectly until the newest firmware was released which fails every time I try to update. Even so, all that seems to effect is the follow the sun feature doesn't work anymore so not too big of a deal. Overall I like these bulbs and the app works fine.
So I've had a lot of issues with this app, and the bulbs. Firstly, the bulbs change tone by themselves. The app still shows my set tone, but the bulb will be on a different tone than what the app shows. Next, the brightness of the bulbs is also determined by the bulbs themselves, not me. The final straw? I updated my phone and can no longer control my bulbs. At all. They won't pair to the app, and they are on the AM setting permanently after attempting to reset them.
I was really disappointed. Set it up quickly on my bedside lamp for 'follow the sun'. No problem connecting, updating firmware, or controlling the bulb. But morning came and the bulb never turned itself on. Once I turned it on manually it started to gradually change colors. But that isn't the point... What good is an alarm clock that you need to be awake to enable?
This app is a humongous drain on my phone battery. I have to charge my phone 3 or 4 times a day. I tried deleting the app and my battery went back to only having to charge it at night and it lasting all day. PLEASE fix this or I'm going to have to return the bulbs and delete the app and I really don't want to. I can not share control saies every email address I try is invalid.
The app no longer works at all since I updated to Nougat on my phone. Prior to that, it was extremely buggy. Scenes would change settings on their own and I was only able to control the bulbs from one device despite logging in to my account on a second device. The bulbs were great when the app worked, but this app is extremely poorly executed and without it they're just expensive regular light bulbs.
Hopefully an update will fix this, the bulbs are just LED light bulbs that don't connect or anything else at this point..might return the bulbs before then.. ugh. Not what I expected at all, wish it wasn't so. Doesn't connect on my old Android phone either..
Guys what is this??? This app has sooooo many... flaws. The form validation when creating account doesn't pull whitespace off (1 line of code). What is this convoluted 'follow the sun' bullpoo?? Are you kidding? Timer is hidden in app settings? And it only works for one bulbType. The app already runs in the background for Christmas sake just have it ping the bulb when timer goes off. Then there's the speed of every single load. It's absurd. It's lazy. You guys have a huge team
Bulbs... after an hour, frustration and many resets, finally connected. Work good as long as you dont plan to share or sync account for use on another device. I now have 3 "places" and not one of them is the "place" with everything functioning properly... Maybe a manual sync option and "places" management would be a good idea. Timers would be a nice option too.
The app is functional but still has some bugs to work out. The main issue is that it is a massive battery hog (consumed 25% of my battery while running). It must constantly be searching for connections to bulbs. There are other issues with app functionality that sometimes requires you to log out/log in to reconnect to your bulbs. Not sure I can live with the battery drain, which means I can't live with the bulbs, either.
Update: GE, you really need to update the app for Nougat compatibility. App does not see the bulbs. ------- Ok. Not sure why all the bad reviews but the app works just fine. I haven't experienced any battery issues as some reviewers are pointing out.
I just bought my new bulbs today. I was super excited about the concept. About 5 minutes after I set up my bulbs have already disconnected from the application. I had to reset the bulbs twice to get them back online.
For what purpose must this app. run in the background all day? Why do I have to manually go in and force stop it? G.E. why is the development of this app. so fundamentally terrible? Oh and only one phone can connect to my bulbs at a time so yeah that blows too.But wait there's more!! After a recent update on my phone I can't connect to your terrible yellow bulbs anyways!!! How did G.E. get to be a $285.6 billion company in the first place??
I like the app even though sometimes it doesnt want to connect but i noticed my phone has been dying verry fast lately so i checked my battery usage and this app has been using more battery than anything else on my phone. That is totally unacceptable. Fix this ASAP. I cant use it if it is going to drain my battery like that.
Well, that was a waste of money. I fully expected the app to be buggy, but when you can't even connect to the bulbs in the first place? That's just plain fraudulent.
It worked when I first got it but now it only connects to my sleep bulb and not my life bulb. I've reset the bulb, tried it in multiple lamps, etc. No luck. Incredibly disappointed. Even the sleep bulb takes a few tries of opening and reopining the app to recognize it.
Bulbs lose connectivity, app malfunctions non stop. They need to fix this crap before you waste this much money on their bulbs. No rhyme or reason to why it just quits working. Plus, huge battery drain on phone.
For Android users having trouble, turn off the wifi on your phone and turn on the bluetooth. After you've set it up, you csn turn the wifi back on. The dimming feature is nice. Worked on a 3 way lamp and after set up offers nice feature.
If I could give this 0 stars I would. Runs continuously in the background, so it uses more battery than the system OS itself. In addition, it doesn't even work. Can't find my bulbs...Ever. I should have just bought some regular led bulbs. Thanks for sucking so badly at connected light bulbs GE.
After some time I got it to work. But it drains about 7-10% of battery an hour even though I use the app maybe once a week. Terrible. Going to go buy different bulbs simply because this app is trash and poor power mgmt. Ironic from a company like GE
Never connects with bulb. Huge inconvenience now to take this back to store. A company the size of GE should be able to make an app/product that works.
Only gave two stars because it used to work great. But no matter what, phone will find bulb then not connect after its set up. Pointless to have this bulb just buy a reg LED...
Kills my phone battery. My phone dies by 2 PM now and every time the battery app shows C by GE as the culprit, even if I am not using it. Also, why does the app need access to my camera and photos? There is no need for those permissions and it just opens up an unnecessary hole on your phone.
DO NOT BUY. I contacted C by GE about why I was standing under my bulbs after connecting them and it would not let me turn them off or on sometimes. They sent me a text message from one of the "developers" from China and said here. The text message said there there is no issues with them, that it must be an issue with my Bluetooth version on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge... I am never going to use this product again. I was more knowledgeable about their product than they were. DO NOT BUY! Use something else.
Ever since it has been updated it stopped finding the bulbs, has changed bulbs after locations have been changed, etc. It is impossible to use it anymore. I'm super disappointed! Please fix this!!

It's nice when it works. Everytime I try to sign in it says network error. And won't let me sign in. Does the same thing when I try to reset my password. I have Bluetooth on. I use the bulbs but can't turn them on and off from the app. Worthless
