About Compass
Compass has a clean, straightforward interface providing the user with orientation and location data in an informative and familiar way.
▶ The orientation of the handset is illustrated by the compass graphic, rotating such that North points to Magnetic North or True North.
▶ The current Latitude, Longitude and Locality/City of the device is also shown below the orientation. The location data is only provided by the Cell Tower triangulation and is only polled once per minute, to conserve battery life.
▶ You can toggle between Magnetic North and True North. The offset between Magnetic North and True North (magnetic declination) is dependent upon the location of the device and the time. The application uses the device location and time to compute the magnetic declination, such that the offset can be subtracted from the orientation to give True North. This is useful for using Compass with a map. For example, in Maine, USA the difference between Magnetic North and True North is ~20° as of 2015.
▶ Calibration warning if magnetometer readings become inaccurate.
