Could get expensive if you download lots of tiles.

Beautiful maps, but the app is almost ruined by dumb programming bugs. It crashes frequently. After a crash it needs multiple retries before it restarts cleanly. And some parts of the user interface design are just incomprehensible. Worst of all, it eats INSANE amounts of data because its map caching is totally broken. This afternoon it used 630 MB of data in less than four hours of use for a walk in a small area near the Pilatus, even though I had supposedly "preloaded" the area beforehand. Also it doesn't track your position in real-time, which is disappointing. If the developers ever fix these bugs then this app will be brilliant, well worth paying for, but they'll have to do a lot better than this.

Topo map on phone - perfect

Maps are of high, Swiss, quality. For the app, I agree with the critics, especially the long in German one, from Christian. The authors should get their act together and deliver value for the money. AND, I haven't figured out how to add the shortcut to my home screen (the app is not listed in my purchased app list).

Trotz aktuellen Kartenmaterial taugt die App leider nicht zur Navigation im Gelände. Die GPS Ortung dauert unendlich lange und der aktuelle Standort wird auf der Karte nicht markiert. Sobald man die Karte zur Navigation verschiebt geht auch der aktuelle Standort verloren. Eine Markierung der letzten x-Wegpunkte des zurückgelegten Weges wäre ebenfalls hilfreich um festzustellen woher man kommt und wohin man geht. Des Weiteren habe ich noch nicht rausgefunden wie ich GPS-Tracks laden kann, welche sich bereits auf meinem Handy befinden. Eine "Browse"-Funktion um diese zu lokalisieren gibt es nicht. Des weiteren gibt es keine Möglichkeit Farbe, Transparenz und Breite des Tracks anzupassen. Dasselbe gilt für die eingeblendeten Layer. So werden z.B. Mountainbikerouten von SchweizMobil in dunkel Braun (=Schwarz) in ca. 1 Pixel Breite dargestellt und lassen sich somit nicht von der Hintergrundkarte unterscheiden. Zudem schalte ich gerne mal in den Offline-Modus, oder stelle das GPS-Signal auf meinem Handy aus. Die Schnelleinstellungen unter Android lassen sich jedoch nicht aufrufen ohne dass sich die ganze Karte verschiebt und dann hat man schon wieder seinen Standpunkt verloren...

Auf Nexus 6 sehr instabil. Stürzt immer wieder mit schwarzem Bildschirm ab. Update: die neue Version macht zwischendurch alles braun, wahrscheinlich der mountainbike layer im Hintergrund... Tiles download noch immer unvollständig. 200 tiles werden runterladen, es fehlen dann aber doch welche wenn man offline ist... Es ist echt enttäuschend. Komplett neu entwickeln die app...

UX and navigation is mediocre to bad. The resr is not bad in general, but limited functionality and expensive subscription for very limited added value.

Very useful app and very good support. I would like to be able to use my single license on multiple devices.

Problem on Android 6: This app opens many file extensions (such as e.g. .apk files). I don't want any app to open e.g. .apk files. Consequence: I had to uninstall swiss map to open an .apk file. Please immediately delete this filetype association! (I think you have it set to * if I go to settings..)

Die Karten sind 1A, die App. ist aber ziemlich minimalistisch und die 1000 Gratiskacheln weg wie nichts. Dass man sich dann keine "Kachel-Pakete" je nach Bedarf kaufen kann, sondern gleich ein teures Abo erwerben muss, finde ich nicht gut und für nur gelegentlichen Gebrauch viel zu teuer.

Interface misérable, carrés qui ne se chargent pas ou trop lentement, et prix surfaits. La version iOS est mieux finie et a plus de fonctionnalités. Expensive, slow, poor UI. The iOS version is better.

Excellent application which has saved me from getting lost in the forest many times when hiking or biking. I recently had a technical problem (actually an error on my part) and the devloper's reply and solution to the problem was very rapid and concise and now my map application works perfectly again. Highly recommended, Thanks!

Together with my smart phone, it replaces a GPS for my outdoor activities.

Eine wirklich UNVERZICHTBARE App für's Wandern, Berge, usw... Gutes Konzept, hat sogar Track-Recording. Unzählige Male benutzt und ich liebe sie. ABER.... stürtzt bei mir auf dem Samsung Note 4 leider immer wieder ab, doch bin ich sicher dass das bald in den Griff gekriegt wird und dann nur noch das Positive überwiegt. Kundendienst antwortet schnell und effizient!!

1 Mal reinzoomen in meinen Heimatort und die 1000 Tiles waren weg. Kann ja nicht sein. Trotz 50'000er Leitung ging das ewigs zum Laden.

Sehr schlechte Software. Seit dem letzten Update öffnet es beliebig den Play Store. Der Entwickler meint ich soll es auf ein anderes Gerät installieren, aber leider habe ich nicht mehrere Handys.

Whenever I try to zoom in, it just goes back and takes time to load...could be better if you could improve it and then I could again get back to it. Thanks.

Von Swisstopo und zu dem Preis erwarte ich eine besser App! Die Karten sind natürlich Top. Wie sehe ich welche Karten ich offline habe? Nützt mir ja nichts wenn ich sie dann nicht dabei habe.

Maps deserve much better app. E.g. have to reload after power on.

The maps are excellent (and should be at the price of CHF 38.- per year). The Application is only mediocre, with a very weak download function for offline map usage, only allowing the download of small sections of maps at a specific resolution and with no indication of what is locally stored. Miserable if you are planning a long trip. Most people who can afford 38.- per year probably have a decent smartphone with enough GBs to store the entire map base. Unless this feature is improved, I am not renewing my subscription. (version 2.2)

Keeps crashing

I ran this app without problems for 2 years on an Iphone. Then I changed to the Android version. There was a minor hiccup when an update caused the map tiles to vanish, but they soon reappeared. My phone then ran out of memory (too many photos!). When I cleared it, Swiss Map refused to run, even when reinstalled. I e-mailed _swisstopo-Support-CD and Mr Thomas Kaufmann immediately diagnosed the problem and guided me to delete the files corrupted by the phone crash. All now perfect again Top customer service!

This should be a really good app, however it would seem the developer has removed the option to buy extra map tiles, and the only way to view more of the maps is to buy a yearly subscription costing £27.49. Seeing as I only need a few extra tiles in one specific region which would previously have cost £2.50, this is an unacceptable amount to pay, and is very annoying.

The main problem I have is with loading maps for offline use, and it is exactly for the offline functionality that I purchased the subscription. It is not at all transparent which maps are downloaded. Also the user interface for specifying what to save for offline use is crude, in that you select a radius from the current point. The documentation is not up to date because it refers to an option to download all purchased maps which appears no longer to be available. The consequence of this is alot of testing with the device in offline mode to verify if the required map sections are present. Much better interface would be for instance a miniature map of Switzerland tiled with the same granularity as say the paper 1:25000 maps and marked with the download status and an option to import missing sections. There also appears to be a bug and some attempts to download map sections are silently dropped .

Es wird besser. Kann man die Karten auf verschiedenen Geräten nutzen?

Schade um die guten Karten. Die App ist unbrauchbar. Reine Zeitvergeudung sich damit auseinander zu setzen. Handhabung völlig unklar. Karten werden permanent neu geladen. Unklar wie man sie lizensieren muss und zu welchem Preis. Bitte setzt da mal einen fähigen Programmierer dran.

Sadly this app just keeps crashing every minute or so. And, if you had the courage to buy some map material, you should be advised that investing money into your local charity is much more gratifying. After the inevitable crashes you will loose every map tile you have bought with the in-app purchases and absolutely no way to recover your money nor the maps :-(

Some map tiles are several years older than updated ones available on printed maps or at geo.admin.ch. Please use latest tiles!

Average gui

Having had failure with other hiking gps systems (not being very "techy") and having read poor reviews for this app, I was very wary about buying it, but I was reassured by the prompt response from the help line and, having taken the plunge, I now have no regrets at all. I bought it yesterday morning and went for a two hour walk along a bisse in Valais - a walk I already knew well - just to try out the app. The maps are incredibly clear and the gps on my Nexus 4 was absolutely spot on! I now have confidence to buy maps for longer, more complicated walks. I am very happy with my purchase. It is simple to use, easy to understand and I can just get on with the business of walking, which is what I enjoy. I haven't tried buying new map tiles yet, but t looks fairly straightforward. I intend just buying for each hike as I do it, which means that I won't be wasting money on maps I don't need. It really does seem to do exactly what I wanted it to do. Very pleased.

Was never corrected, never worked. Very sad, should be removed from the store (and refunded), as this situation has not improved in many months. Support did make contact with me, but every time I was able to call back the right person wasn't available.
